The first thing Kawin noticed after the announcement ended was the silence. Not a single breath could be heard in the lobby, even with twelve people standing there.
No one spoke—not because they understood, but because no one knew what to ask first. The air felt colder, as if the temperature had suddenly dropped. Or maybe... it was something else entirely. A presence. Something unseen that stirred the moment the doors locked.
"Alright..." The woman in the red suit broke the silence, her voice deliberate. She stood up and walked slowly to the center of the round table, stopping where numbered markings had been engraved.
"As I mentioned earlier, I came here because I knew this wasn't just a typical grand opening of a new aquarium."
All eyes turned to her. She met their gazes one by one before continuing.
"This place was originally built for experimental purposes ten years ago. It vanished from all records after the research team mysteriously disappeared."
A young man in a delivery uniform scoffed. "Come on, lady! It's 2025! You're seriously still into conspiracy theories? What is this—Area 51? Ridiculous."
"Then explain the lack of phone signal, GPS, and the creepy announcements echoing through the speakers," she retorted.
He had no answer. Her words, as strange as they sounded, rang true.
An elderly woman, perhaps the gentlest in the group, softly spoke up. "Maybe... there's still time for us to escape."
Upon hearing her, the middle-aged man who looked like a motorbike taxi driver tried the door again—but it wouldn’t budge.
Kawin moved toward the hallway at the back of the lobby, the one that had recently opened. A long glass corridor led to a massive hall, lined with aquariums on either side. The underfloor lighting cast a strange glow into the tanks. There were no fish, but in one of the tanks, he was certain something was moving.
"Maybe... this isn't the first time someone’s been invited here," said a man who had been silent until now. He wore a cap, simple clothes, but his eyes were sharp—like someone hardened by life. Seeing the others glance at him curiously, he introduced himself.
"My name is Ith."
"What do you mean, Ith?" Arisa asked calmly.
"I once looked into this place. Five years ago, my sister disappeared. She said she was coming to a seminar about aquatic behavior and psychology—here."
Silence again.
Ith walked to one of the tanks, placing a hand gently near the glass without touching it.
"The project back then was called LUCID OCEAN, led by a researcher named... Dr. Metha."
A shoulder-length-haired woman who had remained quiet finally spoke. "If all of us were chosen to be here... it means someone wanted us to come."
"Yes. And you are...?"
"Praewa."
"Well, Ms. Praewa, you're right. Someone definitely brought us here."
"Then who?" she pressed.
"I don’t know," Ith admitted. "But whoever they are... they’re the host of this event. That much I’m certain of."
The others glanced around, hoping someone might offer an answer. But no one did.
Just then, the speaker crackled again. Static noise surged as if it had been listening.
"You are not guests. You are test subjects. The experiment will begin the moment the first person breaks any of the 13 rules. Be warned: breaking a rule is full acceptance of the consequences."
Thunk!
Everyone turned toward the sound. At the center of the round table, a glass panel lit up, revealing a glowing red display:
13 RULES
A blinking button below read ‘Acknowledge’.
Miki, the purple-haired teenage girl known as a famous YouTuber who explored mysterious places, raised her hand to press the button—but Kawin grabbed her arm just in time.
"Don’t!"
"Why not? It’s just a button."
"Did you not hear that even touching something could be counted as a violation?" Arisa cut in, her voice firm.
Miki frowned and stepped back, muttering, "I just wanted to see what the 13 rules were."
"Didn’t you listen to the announcement?"
"Ugh! Like anyone can remember all of that! Thirteen rules? If anyone here memorized them all, they’re not human."
Kawin sighed and approached the screen. The text changed from ‘Acknowledge’ to:
"Ready to Observe?"
He didn’t press it.
But someone else did.
He’s Boom. A man who had remained silent the whole time stepped forward and tapped the button without hesitation.
Click!
The speakers came to life again:
"RULE ONE: DO NOT TOUCH THE GLASS."
"Rule One: Do not touch the glass," Kawin repeated aloud, as if to reinforce the warning.
A nearby aquarium lit up. It was a tall, crystal-clear tank filled with glowing blue-green water.
No fish.
No visible life.
But something moved within.
"You have been chosen. Observe. Do not touch. Do not disturb. Some things... should never be touched twice."
The message ended. Silence returned. No one dared speak. No one moved.
Except Miki.
She raised her phone and took a quiet picture of the moving shadow inside the tank.
Snap!
She didn’t know it yet... but that moment would be the first violation.
And none of them had any idea what would come next.
The Triton Aquarium was completely destroyed. From a legend, it became a pile of ruins. They spent almost a month recovering physically and mentally before they decided to meet again and reveal what had happened, along with all the evidence they had, to the public. And so, the secret of the human experiments was revealed to the public through the documents and the notebook that Gawin had brought out. People all over the world were shocked by the horrors that had happened, and the aquarium became a legend of darkness and danger.Dr. Winai was hunted down and finally arrested as he was trying to escape the country through an illegal route. He confessed to all the charges, having been caught with evidence. He was prosecuted according to the law. After everything was over, Gawin, Ploy, Miki, Ton, and Mhok met again because they were all still troubled by what happened. They met at a restaurant decorated in a natural style, filled with trees, waterfalls, fountains, and ponds. It was a nice
Part 49: The SurvivorsThe explosion of the power core echoed throughout the Triton Aquarium. The sound of cracking walls and surging water violently brought everything down. All the horrifying experimental creatures shrieked in pain before dissolving into thin air. It's sacrifice to stop this madness was still a profound shock. The remaining dim light shone on the faces of the remaining group, revealing eyes filled with exhaustion, fear, and the will to survive. As the aquarium was collapsing, the sound of cracking walls and surging water violently shook the ground. The remaining survivors—Gawin, Ploy, Miki, Ton, and Mhok—ran for their lives. The bright light from the power core's explosion led them to the exit door that was opened after the power core was destroyed. They supported and helped each other, crawling through the debris and the narrow, dark corridors. The roaring sound of the collapsing aquarium was not far behind. Every step was a fight for life. The light at the end of
It lunged into the glowing power core without hesitation. His body, filled with a hidden power from his knowledge of the aquarium and his determination to stop this madness, quickly entered the password he had received. But the result was not what he hoped for. Everything remained normal, with no changes.Meanwhile, he noticed a light shooting out from his palm, which shocked him. He didn't know what possessed him to reach out and gently touch the power core in front of him.Suddenly, a bright, pure white light emanated from It's body. The light illuminated the entire lab. A massive energy shot violently into the power core. The power core began to shake violently. The creature controlling the power core roared in madness."No!!!!" Dr. Winai, who had just run in, shrieked in shock. He tried to stop It, but it was too late. The power core exploded violently. The explosion echoed throughout the Triton Aquarium. The force of the blast shattered the walls and fish tanks. Water surged out
The hallucinations warping their minds—It's haunting failures and Gawin's painful truth about his mother—couldn't stop them from heading toward the power core. The dim light from the old experimental equipment in the lab shone on their faces, revealing eyes filled with the determination to destroy everything for their freedom.Ploy stared at the creature controlling the power core with extreme terror. "It's so scary..." Ploy mumbled, her voice trembling. "How can we fight it?" The seal-like mark on her palm began to turn red and glow again."Let's make this our final battle," It said with a firm voice. "We have to destroy that power core."They faced the new giant experimental creature. Its glowing tentacles were terrifying. As soon as they moved forward toward the power core, the giant monster started to release its power again. It and Gawin had to fight the hallucinations again. Fortunately, they were lucid enough not to fall for them. They slowly took a step forward, heading straig
Mhok's shocking warning that destroying the power core might cause the entire Triton Aquarium to collapse left the remaining group with a difficult choice. It seemed to be the only and best option they had, so her words left them at a loss."But I think we have no other choice," It insisted firmly."Then we have to plan our escape well," Gawin added. "I think the memory room is the answer." After he spoke, he tried to remember the lullaby his mother used to sing to him, which contained the password to shut down the system."Then let's hurry down," It said, leading everyone down. They walked to the large door with a clear sign that it was the memory room. It was closed, and next to the door was a keypad with various symbols on each button. They stared at it for a moment before looking at each other in confusion."The password isn't numbers?" It asked."I know, right? This is the first time I've seen a password with symbols instead of numbers," Ploy added, staring at the buttons. "There
Hope doubled when they learned that the password to the secret zone under the large fish tank was hidden in Gawin's mother's lullaby. But it was still not a sure thing, as it seemed difficult for Gawin to recall the memories that had been erased by the aquarium. But at least it gave them a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel."Do you think Gawin will remember?" Ploy asked It, her voice full of doubt."We have to give him time," It said, his eyes on Gawin, who was sitting in a corner, reading the notebook over and over as if it would help him recall what he needed faster.Suddenly, the air in the room changed. The temperature dropped rapidly. The lights dimmed until it was almost dark, and whispers came from all directions around them, as if a chilling breath had swept past. Then, something no one expected happened, surprising them all. Mhok, who had mysteriously disappeared, suddenly reappeared in the middle of the corridor in front of them, as if she had been sent back from som
