I found Luna Catherine near one of the tall windows watching the dance floor.

“Can we talk?” I asked.

She turned from the glass. “Of course.”

We stepped into a small alcove where the curtains muted the noise from the ballroom.

“Evangeline’s scent is changing.”

Catherine’s gaze sharpened. “Changing how?”

“She smells wrong.” The words sat heavy in my mouth. “Rotten eggs. Sulfur. It’s getting stronger. My wolf struggles to stay near her.”

Color drained from Catherine’s face.

Isabella POVSleep had finally found me at the chapter house, and when I woke, my mind felt clearer than it had in days. The few hours of rest had given my thoughts enough space to settle, even if they had not made any of them disappear. I got out of bed and walked toward the railing overlooking the lower floor, resting my hands against the wood as I watched the Daughters move through the house. There was something strange about seeing them like this. Some had cases connected to Meridian, some had been brought here because of things they had survived, and others simply lived within the community. Their stories were not written across their faces, yet sometimes a person carried enough grief in the way they moved that you found yourself wondering what had happened to them. Near one of the pillars, a woman sat with her head bowed, crying quietly into her hands. No one approached her or asked questions. Perhaps the Daughters had learned that sometimes people needed company without convers

Barbara POVI sent the photograph of Maverick’s daycare to Alpha Desmond and waited. The place had strict access controls and careful pickup procedures, which meant walking in and taking him would attract exactly the kind of attention we needed to avoid. Isabella’s friend was also helping with his pickup, so we needed another way to get close to him without making anyone suspicious.Emerald arrived at my car already looking irritated. She opened the door, slid into the passenger seat, and shut it harder than necessary. “A substitute teacher. She’s willing to cooperate, but she wants payment before she does anything.”I smiled. “Will she cause trouble?”“Not if she gets paid enough.” Emerald folded her arms and looked straight ahead. “But I’m not getting involved. If anyone comes looking for me, I will deny everything.”“You won’t have to.”“I’m serious, Lady Barbara. Whatever you’re planning, I’m not going to prison for you.”The money had clearly softened her resolve. Emerald had gon

Isabella POVEmma wandered toward the windows and looked around the room. “So this is where the Daughters stay? It feels nothing like the parts of the estate I’d seen before.”“Part of it,” Luna Lisa said.Emma turned slowly, taking in the wooden panels and the women moving through the adjoining rooms. She was referring to the guards dragging injured wolves through corridors, or the rooms where Wesley had spent years being restrained while people tried to reach the part of him that kept slipping away. This side of the house felt lived in. Women moved between rooms, absorbed in ordinary tasks, and for a moment it was almost possible to forget what happened elsewhere on the estate. My preparations were just as ordinary. There were no strange instructions or elaborate procedures. They wanted my body rested, my mind clear, and my wolf responsive before the marking. I had to eat properly, drink enough water, and sleep. More than anything, they wanted my wolf to meet Wesley without fear or

Wesley POV I woke with a headache pounding behind my eyes and the sour taste of alcohol coating my tongue. My body felt heavy, and a strange chill ran through me despite the warmth of the room. Between what I had drunk the night before, the lack of sleep, and the mess in my head, I could feel something coming on. Or maybe my mind was simply doing what it had always done when I was afraid and making everything feel worse than it was.The bathroom light made me squint as I stepped inside. My reflection stared back at me from the mirror, and I hated what I saw. I looked like a man who had spent his entire life losing fights with his own body, which wasn't far from the truth. I was the son of an Alpha, and everyone had expected me to grow into someone worthy of taking over the pack. Instead, I had spent most of my life learning how to keep my own wolf from hurting people. The thought dragged me back to my first shift.I had been thirteen, and I remembered how excited I was that morning.

Isabella POV "So you're really Barbara's sister?"I exhaled. "Yes.""How did none of us know?"I didn't need to explain everything. Emma knew enough to understand why the truth had been kept from me."What are they doing about it now? Your father and his wife, I mean.""I haven't thought much about them."That was true. Wesley had taken up so much space in my mind that there hadn't been much room left for anyone else. But I remembered what had happened between Charlie and Barbara, and suddenly curiosity offered me a way to keep my thoughts away from Wesley for a little longer."Can I ask you something?""Anything.""What happened between you and Charlie?"Emma sighed."Charlie and I were close. Very close. It was like the relationship Wesley has with Anita. We grew up around each other, went to the same school, and spent so much time together that I never questioned what he meant to me. Then I got older and realized I didn't see him as my brother anymore. I started thinking I liked h

Isabella POV I couldn't stop crying. All the fears I had carried since the beginning had finally found a way to become real. I had been afraid Wesley would look at the bond and see another burden he had been forced to carry. I had been afraid that once he learned the truth, he would decide loving me was too dangerous and that staying away from me was the only way to keep me safe.He had said it himself. He didn't want the bond.Luna Lisa pulled me into her arms, and I buried my face against her shoulder. Anita's hand settled gently against my back while Emma stood beside us, tears shining in her eyes. "He needs time," Luna Lisa said softly. "This is too much for him.""He needs to accept help," Grandma Cassidy said. There was more irritation than sympathy in her voice, which surprised me considering how much she adored Wesley. "He has spent years refusing to let anyone help him. Being his mate doesn't mean you have to carry his pride for him.""Cassidy," Luna Lisa warned."I'm not bl

CameronI woke in the middle of the night in a hotel room drenched in sweat and painfully hard. My wolf snarled inside my head, pacing and demanding that I go to Lisa. Not Evangeline, not my mate waiting at home, but Lisa. The urge hit with such force it bordered on pain. I sat up in the dark grippi
