Cameron POV

I woke up clearer than I had all week. The pressure behind my eyes was gone. My thoughts had settled into a clean line I could follow without effort.

Sunlight slipped through the curtains and laid pale bands across the floor. I stayed in bed for a while, staring at the ceiling while yesterday’s confrontation ran through my head again. The longer I thought about it, the more irritated I grew.

Nadia crying, Franklin acting like I was at death’s door, and Alpha Kieran standing in my li

Isabella POV "Guess we can stop pretending now."Wesley's words made me nudge him, silently begging him not to make this worse. But Wesley, in his usual fashion, didn't seem to care. With Harrison standing there, the covered plate still in his hands, I didn't know what to say, except that I had somehow turned everything into a tangled mess. How could I explain that the future Alpha was my mate? That he was the man I couldn't stop thinking about? That we'd already been kissing long before Wesley singled Harrison out?"Good evening, Alpha Wesley."Harrison straightened and cleared his throat. His voice stayed level. He held the plate toward me."I brought you some food."I reached for it, but my hands shook so badly the plate almost slipped."Thank you," I whispered. He nodded and walked away. Wesley wore a knowing grin as Harrison's footsteps faded down the corridor."Why does he look so shocked? Didn't see that coming, did he?"I closed my eyes and dragged in a breath. Wesley raised

Isabella POVThe breeze pouring through the open windows tossed my hair, cooling my scalp as I sat in the passenger seat while Wesley drove us back to the staff lodge. Maverick drifted between sleep and wakefulness in the back seat. The poor kid had been running around since morning, and I knew he would sleep for hours the moment his head touched a pillow. He still clutched the plastic dinosaur Wesley had bought him, and I knew he wouldn't forget today for a very long time.It almost brought tears to my eyes. Not long ago, the two of us had been trapped in my father's house. All my son had known was fear and how to run into my arms whenever voices got too loud. At least he wouldn't grow up reliving my life. We would build one of our own.The silence in the car felt easy, making me wish the drive would never end."We could stop by my place for a while," Wesley said, so casually it almost felt as though he'd read my mind. One hand rested on the steering wheel while the other tapped agai

Isabella POVThe relief on Harrison's face as he dropped into the chair beside my desk made me hide a smile. He looked like someone who had just won the lottery."He approved it," he said, still sounding like he couldn't believe it himself. "He said, GOOD JOB. The same report he rejected twice."I smiled into my coffee. "See? I told you it would work out."Harrison kept shaking his head. "It was like someone swapped him overnight. I swear that fucker is bipolar. It's like he has a switch in his head."I pretended to share his confusion, but my thoughts drifted elsewhere. All I could think about was Wesley's hands, the softness of his lips, and my body wanting more.I hid the smile threatening to betray me behind my mug."Let's just hope he never remembers I exist again," Harrison muttered, making me chuckle. That was the beginning of my ravenous desire for Wesley's touch.I found reasons to pass by his office, and he too always found reasons to send cues that he was free, pulling me b

Isabella POV Payroll was finally over, and the Accounting Department's mountain of reports was gone. The office felt alive again. People chatted across desks, wandered over to swap stories, and even Emma took Monday off after surviving payroll week. One of the women had the office laughing with a story about her cousin's wedding and the possessive mother-in-law who nearly ruined the ceremony because she couldn't stand another woman "stealing" her son. Across the room, two coworkers argued over who deserved annual leave first. Their voices kept rising, but everyone knew they were playing around, laughing as each insisted their vacation mattered more.Harrison dragged an empty chair to my desk and slipped into the chatter like he always did. He bounced from one conversation to another while finishing the last of his work, tossing out jokes before returning to his spreadsheets. I had no idea how he got anything done.I noticed he went quiet and stared at his monitor, his frown deepening

Isabella POV By half past ten, the sound of printers jamming, phones ringing, and the Accounting Department running at full tilt had become part of my daily life. Payday was only two days away, and payroll preparations had swallowed the entire office. Reports passed between departments, approval requests piled up by the minute, and everyone seemed buried beneath deadlines.Even Harrison, who always liked to chat with us in the morning, had his face practically glued to his monitor while stacks of files surrounded his desk. Somewhere along the way, I'd settled into the rhythm of the office. I was no longer the frightened newcomer trying to prove I belonged. I did my work, kept my head down, and avoided attention.Emma had sent me for another cup of coffee because, according to her, three hours of sleep wasn't enough to survive payroll week, and she was far too busy to leave her desk herself. I'd barely dropped off the coffee and headed for my desk when my phone vibrated inside my pock

Isabella POV I headed toward the staircase.Family portraits lined the walls. A perfect family preserved inside polished frames.I stopped at the fourth stair. Whenever they summoned me upstairs, I'd stop there, praying that whatever punishment waited for me would be bearable.I drew a deep breath.I hated that I'd moved out and still my palms were damp and my throat was dry. My body remembered this house far better than my mind wanted to admit. At the landing, their voices drifted from the upstairs sitting room. The old instinct to apologize rose, but I bit the inside of my cheek until the urge passed.I pushed the door open. Father sat on the sofa beside Gwen while Barbara stood near the window, swirling her wine. The silence after the door clicked shut stretched across the room."So you came," Stepmother Gwen said, without bothering to sound welcoming.Barbara spared me a glance before returning her attention to the garden outside. Father gestured toward the empty chair opposite h

Lisa The safehouse looked locked down from the outside. It was a narrow duplex with sealed windows and thick curtains pulled shut, the air trapped inside. My mom and I stood in the living room, looking around at furniture that wasn’t ours. Lisa POVI stood in the bathroom with the door closed, staring at my reflection. Lisa Evangeline showed up a few minutes later.“Mrs Hartwell, it’s so good to see you. How are you feeling?”My mother stood there for a second, still adjusting to her vision, then accepted the hug.“Much better, thank you. And thank you for letting me stay here. It’s very generous.”“Oh, please.

CAMERON POVI kept my distance from Lisa and stopped going near her room or looking for reasons to see her. It was the only way to steady things with Evangeline and keep the house from turning into a war zone.Evangeline stayed close to me during meals and followed me through the house as if monitor
