"Look, Ethan, I don’t know what game you’re playing, but I want you to leave my mother out of it.” I spoke to Ethan over the phone.

He chuckled dryly, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Don’t play with me Ethan. I got your text and I want my mother back to her hospital bed so that she can get the necessary treatment.”

“I’m not playing any games. All I see is a mother-in-law that feels comfortable in the house of her son-in-law She’s safe with me. You know that.” He laughed.

“No, I don’t. Get her safely back to my house, else I’ll involve my husband.” I said to him.

“The same husband she hates?” He laughed again.

“Ethan, I’ll have your head for this, I promise.” The line went off.

“Hi Aria.” Gabriella came running in.

“Hi baby girl… you’re welcome how was school today?” I asked.

“It was fine. Daddy came to pick me up from school and not the driver.” She said.

“Oh really?” I asked in a faux childlike excitement.

“Yes, he’s outside talking to the butler.” She answered.

“So…

Officer, I don’t get it. I’ve been sitting here for almost an hour and nothing has been said to me. Why’s nobody talking to me? Can someone tell me if the guys trailing me have been caught?“Well the truth is that they were never really after you.” an officer said.“What do you mean? If they weren’t after me, then who were they after?” A thought immediately came to my mind. “Were they after Gabriella? My daughter? Were they after my daughter, officer? Why are you guys so calm about this?” I panicked and shouted at them.“Calm down, ma’am..” an officer said.I was one step away from giving him a slap. “Don’t tell me to calm down. Some months ago there was a break in and my daughter’s room was vandalized. If she’s at risk then I need to be informed.”A female police officer came forward “She’s not—“ “Daddy!” Gabriella’s voice diverted all our attention to Julian who just worked in.“How are you, my doll?” Blake asked as he picked her up.“Hi babe” he said and planted a kiss on my lips.

Julian!” I screamed louder so that he would wake up.“Why are you shouting, Aria?” Julian asked in a disgruntled voice. He was obviously still disoriented from sleep.“Julian, I thought we talked about this? Why are these men at my room door?” I shouted “ I gave them the order yesterday before I came into your room. I’m sorry, I forgot to call them off.” He apologized.“Now call them off.” I ordered as I stormed down the stairs to the kitchen.“Miss Aria?” A small sweet voice called me.“Good morning, sweetheart.” I picked Gabriella from the ground.“I’m almost ready for school…” she announced.“I can see that. And I can also see that you’re not so happy this morning, can you tell me about it?” I asked as I placed her on my hip and headed for the dining room.“It’s her…” she whispered and pointed to her nanny.I furrowed my brows “what did she do?” “She was shouting at me…” a tear dropped from eyes.“Why?” I asked.“Because I said I do not want to go to school today and she was har

JULIAN’s POVI walked into the room, My eyes locked on Aria's, filled with a deep longing for forgiveness. I knew i had overstepped, sending five bodyguards to her sister's college without consulting her first. I could see the anger still simmering in her eyes, but he was determined to make things right."Aria, I'm so sorry," i said, my voice low and sincere. "I know I overreacted, and I promise it won't happen again. From now on, I'll always inform you before making any decisions, no matter how small they may seem."Aria's expression softened slightly, but she still looked wary. I took a step closer, my hands reaching out to her."I know I have a tendency to want to control everything, especially when it comes to your safety," I continued. "But it's only because I'm scared, Aria. I'm scared of losing you, of something happening to you. And I know that if anything happens to the people you love, it will affect you deeply."Aria's eyes searched mine, and I could see the tension in her

I stormed into Julian's study, the picture and the dead raccoon clutched in my hand. I slammed them down on his desk, making him jump."What is this?" he shouted, his eyes wide with surprise. "Why are you carrying a dead raccoon around? And what's the picture of me and my therapist doing with you?"I glared at him. "This came from your mistress, Vanessa," I spat. "I'm so tired of her meddling in our lives. I'm not finding it funny anymore."Julian's expression changed from surprise to amusement. "Oh, it's so cute that you actually feel some sort of jealousy when it comes to my relationship with other women," he said, chuckling. "I find it very cute. I think you're beginning to have intense feelings for me."I scoffed. "Please, just tell your mistress to stop harassing me," I said, trying to walk out of the study. But Julian was too quick. He caught my arm and pulled me back. "Don't go," he said, his voice low and husky. "I'm not having an affair with my therapist, Aria. I promise you

I stared out the window, watching as the city bustled below. My mind, however, was elsewhere. “Aria, you keep getting lost. These past few days have been full if you are drifting off,” My mom woke me up from my reverie."I'm telling you, Mom, I'm fine," I said, trying to reassure her. We'd been shopping, had lunch together, and even taken her to the doctor for a check-up. She was getting better, slowly but surely. And we were getting closer like I hoped. "But Aria, I can see the worry in your eyes," my mom replied, her voice laced with concern. "You can't fool me, dear. What's going on with you and Julian? Does it have to do with the pictures from the other day?"I shook my head, “No, those pictures are of his therapist. And they were sent by Ethan and his accomplice, Vanessa. You might not know her but she’s so evil. Take it from me.” I said“Why would Ethan involve himself with someone evil?” She asked, puzzled.“Mom, the truth is that Ethan is not a good person. I knew I had to be careful. Whoever was behind the creepy gifts and Clara's suspicious behavior was clearly inside the house, watching me. I couldn't let my guard down, not even for a moment."Vivian, I need your help," I said, trying to sound calm, as I called my sister. "I need to get out of here for a while. Can you help me plan a vacation?""Of course, Aria," Vivian replied. "What's going on? You sound really stressed.""I just need a break, Vivian," I said, trying to downplay the situation. "I'll tell you all about it later, okay?"Vivian agreed, and we started making plans. We decided to take my mom with us, and Vivian chose a beautiful resort in Ibiza."I'm so excited, Aria," Vivian said, as we finalized the plans. "This is just what you need. A little rest and some quality time with Mom.""I know, Vivian," I replied. "Thanks for doing this. Julian’s paranoia was increasing. He oversaw the locking of the gate , and sometimes locked it himself. Everyday there was a new guard he hired.. He did a never ending vetting of the security guards. He watched the security cameras, sometimes deep into the night.“You don’t have to do this, Julian. You’re overworking yourself. With this, your business and political career, you’ll most likely run mad,” I said.He remained stoic. “I already failed once.”“She’s home.”“And she still wakes up crying. You think I don’t hear her? You think I don’t know the reason you have those bags under your eyes is because you stay awake at night comforting her!?.”I sat beside him. “I don’t mind doing that, you should rest, Julian. You’re not a god, Julian. You can’t control everything.”He looked at me. “No. But I can control this house.”I was tired at this point. The next night, I saw reason to agree with Julian’s protectiveness. It was in the night time when I heard some noise, I went out to check

They’re bringing Gabrielle home” he said joyfully.I immediately followed him, A black SUV made its way into the estate The moment the door opened and she ran into my arms, Her face was streaked with dirt. Her hair tangled. She clung to me so tight it hurt. I didn’t let go.Julian stood behind her, his expression unreadable. “One of our team members found her in a locked bedroom in an abandoned lodge two towns over. No one else was there. She’d been alone” One security personnel said. Julian nodded tightly. He watched me wrap my arms around her. His jaw was tight. His fists, tighter.I carried her to the couch, brushing the hair out of her face. “Are you hurt?”She shook her head, then looked up at me with wide e

I sat on the bathroom floor, the positive pregnancy test still trembling in my hand. My heart trembled. This was not the time for this.. I couldn’t be excited, I couldn’t feel the joy that should come with creating life. All I felt was fear. Fear of Julian’s reaction, fear of what will happen to the baby in a world where its father has so many enemies. Fear for missing Gabriella.I strolled around the quiet mansion like I normally do if I’m trying to relax. Julian had left earlier without informing me as he has always done since the kidnap of Gabriella hadn’t told him. I placed my hand on my belly. I couldn’t tell him about this pregnancy. At least not yet.“We agreed that there would be no kids in this relationship. Damn I messed up.” I muttered to myself. I wasn’t even sure if Julian still had any proper kind of affection for me anymore. With this whole Gabriella thing he has been a bit hostile. This couldn’t be more wrong timing. I stayed deep in thought until I fell asleep on t

Days turned into an agonizing wait, with no sign of Gabriela. Julian's frustration grew, and he became increasingly disorganized. He lashed out at everyone, including me.I'd never seen him like this before. His usual composure was gone, replaced by a desperate, angry man.I couldn't blame him, though. I was a mess too. Without Gabriela, everything felt off. My mom, who'd grown to love Gabriela like her own granddaughter, was worried sick.As we sat at the kitchen island, my mom tried to reassure me. "Have faith, Aria. Gabriela will be found soon."Just then, one of Julian's private investigators burst into the kitchen, looking like he had news.I immediately followed him upstairs to Julian's study, leaving my mom behind. "Mom, don't worry, I'll get back to you. Let me see what's going on."In the study, the investigator was explaining his findings. "I haven't found Gabriela yet, but I've discovered a link between Vanessa, Clara, and Ethan."My eyes widened as the pieces fell into pla

I called Ethan immediately, my heart racing with anticipation. "Hello, Ethan. What's going on? Why did you text me about Gabriela?"Ethan burst out laughing. "Oh, my ex-wife calls me again. What do I owe this pleasure? Do you miss me, or is it just about your stepdaughter?"I rolled my eyes. "Don't be stupid, Ethan. If there's one thing I hate, it's you. Love doesn't even come near it."Ethan chuckled. "Oh, please, Aria. Stop being tough. We both know you miss me. I could marry you again in a second if you just say the word."I felt a wave of disgust. "You're unbelievable, Ethan. I thought you'd be married by now, or at least engaged. Why are you still bothering me?"Ethan's tone turned serious. "Because you married my rival, Julian. That's what I don't like. You need to find your way back to me, or you'll never see Gabriela again."My eyes narrowed. "If you have Gabriela, put her on the phone."Ethan laughed. "What would that gain me? I could just help you find her... if you come bac

I tried to brush off Julian's cold behavior, focusing on getting ready for the public outing. I dressed in my best, did my makeup, and held Gabriela's hand as we waited for Julian in the sitting room. Julian finally emerged from his study, his expression still tense. We exchanged minimal small talk as we got into the car. "You look good." "Thanks, Julian," I replied, trying to sound cheerful despite the tension between us. "You look pretty great yourself." Gabriela, sensing the awkwardness, piped up, "Daddy, where are we going?" "We're going to a big event, sweetie," Julian explained, forcing a smile. "Lots of people will be there, and we need to show them what a great family we are." As we got into the car, the silence was palpable. Gabriela's occasional questions broke the silence, but the tension between Julian and me was unmistakable. When we arrived at the event, Julian transformed into a charming politician. "Smile, everyone!" he whispered, holding my hand and Gabriela'
