Chapter 7

ISAIAH

“Dad?”

“Dad?”

“Mr. Isaiah Volkov!” Sophie’s voice rang through the living room, snapping me out of my thoughts.

Shit, how long did I space out?

I turned to my daughter, arms wrapped around her chest, eyes the same color as mine, squinting, scanning me thoroughly. My pretty six-year-old brunette, sharp mouth like me, observant like me… she takes after me to the point that I am literally scared of whatever comes out of her mouth.

“Dad?” She dragged.

“Yes, Princess,” I ans

  • TERMS OF AFFECTION   Chapter 66

Chapter 66 ISAIAH “Do you have to take the pictures?” I asked her, glaring at the pink shirt I had to wear because she insisted that Sophie had mentioned she had always wanted to wear a matching piece. There was no reason to doubt her on that. Sophie had always begged me to wear a pink shirt or something, she even made Annika ask. It was the only time I told her no. Pink is just cheesy and I don’t do cheesy at least until now. I just wanted Sophie to see that I support her on this. Mirabel has been good, well-behaved, and sweet, to Sophie and annoyingly to me. Whenever she came around to visit Sophie, she’d bring the wine she thought I would like. Or bring me the ticket to a movie that was yet to be out. She would come to my office to tell me all about how a particular actor was hitting on her and how their kissing scene felt so awkward. She talked about how she wished she still had my support and how she regretted leaving me, and how being married to me was the happiest she had ev

Chapter 65 ANNIKA “He did what?” Lulu barked, her feet on the floor, towering over me. Her brows arched, eyes on me. I slammed my eyes shut as I grabbed the donut and took another bite recalling what happened that morning. I had gone over to Isaiah’s house… After Sophie mentioned how much she missed me, I realised ignoring her wasn't the right move so I visited often. “Good morning?” I cheered, walking into the living room. Sophie was not in her uniform; she was wearing a pink floral dress, one I had never seen before. Isaiah knows how to shop for his daughter but he has never shopped for her without taking me with him. Could it have been Hazel? Or Mrs Volkov? Her hair was tied into two ponytails, with a pink ribbon that I had also never seen before, and on her feet were shoes I had never seen before. For the first time that morning, Sophie didn’t run into my arms, she sat on the couch, hands wrapped around her chest. She looked gloomy but she still smiled. The Nanny took my b

  • TERMS OF AFFECTION   Chapter 64

Chapter 64 ANNIKA Ding! My phone vibrated against the table, my eyes still glued to the screen of my laptop as I was so engrossed with work. I typed away. Sorting out information and documents and booking appointments, and accepting appointments. In my five years of working at Isaiah’s company, today is the day I hate the most. Don’t ask me why… It’s too pathetic, I won’t tell you. My fingers continued to move against my keyboard, hitting it harder than I should because I am pathetic and shameless. Ding! Ding! Ding! My phone kept buzzing, and I kept ignoring it. If the message doesn't pop up on my laptop then it’s not a work-related message so I don’t have to respond to it. “Uhm, Annika?” I heard a deep voice, like a drag, more cautious. I didn't look away from my laptop. Appointment from Wellsy water. A water brand that has been trying to get us to be their main distributor. I never agreed to the appointment request because we already have a good supplier but right now, I

Chapter 63 ANNIKKA “Mr Yilmaz, there are a lot of complications yhat comes with your request. Yes, our Hotel would be promoted thanks to the series you want to make but you also have to understand that you would be using the hotel for a span of 400 days. And during those times, our workers would be stretched thin as your actors would have to play some of their roles. Our guests’ privacy and security would be messed with—“ Isaiah sat still, eyes on the screen, watching how the meeting with the Turkey branch was going with the producer of the movie. The producer is refusing to pay the amount the Turkey branch demanded and the meeting has been going back and forth, frustrating, and Isaiah decided to sit on one of their calls to know what they are doing. “I understand you but we won’t be shooting every day in the hotel, so why do we have to pay such an amount? Especially when your Hotel will be known around the world with the movie. I have sent you the logline of the movie and part o

  • TERMS OF AFFECTION   Chapter 62

Chapter 62ANNIKA It’s been two weeks since Mirabel was introduced to Sophie and she has been doing a great job. Sophie likes being around her and Isaiah has been spending more time with them. Mostly keeping his eyes on them to make sure Sophie is actually enjoying the time they spend together. I was preparing for work when my phone buzzed, it was a text from Isaiah. BOSS: Come to the house, Sophie misses you. Right. It’s also been two weeks since I last went to his house. After that day, I never went to his house. I couldn’t bring myself to. I wanted to. I missed him so much that it hurts and I missed Sophie so much too but I couldn’t go. She called me and all I did was talk to her through FaceTime. She told me how things were with her mum and I was happy for her. Mirabel posts pictures every time she spends time with Sophie. She kisses Sophie’s cheeks. And writes adorable captions that leave everyone speechless and jealous. It started the morning after I went out to drink wi

  • TERMS OF AFFECTION   Chapter 61

Chapter 61 ANNIKA The buzzing of my phone forced me out of my sleep. I squeezed my eyes shut, tight. I grunted as I tossed and turned on my bed. I placed my pillow over my head, groaning but my phone continued to ring, vibrating so loud, I gave in. I yanked the phone away from the table, and my sleepy eyes scanned the caller. A group call from Chloe, Mabel, and Lulu. You have got to be kidding me. It’s so early on a Sunday morning. Can’t a girl use some sleep? Should I just ignore the call? I know what they were going to say anyway, why go through the call if I can just pretend I didn’t see it? I wanted to but I know they were calling because they were worried. But I really don’t want to hear anything that will remind me of my reality. Of the hole I dug up for myself. Can’t we all pretend like nothing is happening? How can I pretend nothing is happening when a lot is happening right now? I answered the call reluctantly. It’s best to get it over with than ignore it and end up an
