CHAPTER 2

ALPHA DENVER’S POV

We arrived at my palace and the first person I had to see was my luna. I rolled my eyes to myself as my car stopped right in front of the double doors that served as entrance to enter the palace and there she was, her hands clasped tightly in front of her as she flashed a bright and wide smile that I hated to see because just her presence ticked me off all the time.

I stepped down from the car and she rushed down the few steps toward me to meet me where I stood.

“Alpha, I heard about your victory at the kingdom you just took over and I was so delighted. Congratulations alpha, we should celebrate our victory together” she said in a high pitched cheerful voice with wide eyes while she took my arm and linked hers with it. I couldn’t even tell if her excitement was genuine or not but all I wanted was for her to get off me immediately. She was too loud as always and I hated it as much as I did the first day that we met.

I looked at her with so much indifference and the smile vanished from her face immediately when she saw I wasn’t smiling back at her.

“What do you mean our victory, Amanda? Last time you attempted training as I remember, you couldn’t even use a sword and you call it our victory? Exactly how did you help me win?” I fired at her and she blinked many times before she looked down then she looked back up at me and she opened her mouth to speak but she couldn’t even say a word.

I looked at my arm where she still linked hers with mine and I sighed.

“Is anything wrong alpha?” she asked me in panic and I looked back at her.

“Take your arm off mine this instant” I growled at her through gritted teeth but instead, she inched closer to me and I could catch the smell of her fruity perfume that I hated so much.

“But I’m your luna, and I am supposed to welcome you back from your victory like this” she insisted while trying to give me doe eyes but I just gave her a blank stare because things like that didn’t work on me.

“Save all the shitty formalities and niceness Amanda because I don’t want it” I replied to her since she was too dumb to get the message I was trying to get across to her and I forcefully pulled her hands off mine before I took a step forward to get away from her but then I stopped walking and turned back to look at her so I could drill more words into her brain.

“Also, because we are married doesn’t give you the freedom to speak to me however you want. You will obey me like everyone else does and stay away from me at all times okay, have some pride and quit being clingy” I spat at her then I scowled at her while eyeing her from head to toe before I finally entered the palace not caring if she was hurt or not.

“Good riddance” I muttered to myself as I made my way up the stairs to my room to get changed for the dinner meeting and I chuckled to myself when I thought about how hurt Amanda would be after hearing the spiteful words that I threw at her.

Just because my dead father made me marry her when he was alive didn’t make me mandated to act like I loved her even after his death. She was nothing to me and I had made that clear to her several times. It was just sad that she was so desperate for attention… It was really saddening because she meant nothing to me in any way. No one did, except for me.

I finished dressing up for the meeting and I looked at myself in the mirror before I flashed a smile at my reflection through the mirror and at that moment, I remembered the curse that the witch laid on me before she died. It was disturbing even though I was trying not to let it get to me because I wasn’t sure if the curse was going to work or not but one thing I knew was that, I couldn’t afford to lose my powers because it was what gave me supremacy in the werewolf realm. That was what kept other alphas at bay, stopped them from attacking my pack and made them fear me. I turned away from the mirror as I knotted my tie and I sighed for probably the millionth time that day.

“She’s dead Denver. A dead witch’s curse is as good as useless” I said to make myself feel better and I chuckled again before I put on my shoes and left my room.

Cillian was standing right outside my room already waiting for me in his suit and he bowed once he saw me exit my room.

“We should leave for the meeting right away alpha” he said to me and I nodded at him before he followed me as I made my way down the stairs.

“Yeah, we should,” I replied as we made our way out of the palace and I couldn’t help but smile to myself as I remembered that I just conquered a witch’s kingdom and it was now part of my pack. I was sure that my father would be turning in his grave to know that my reign was better than his and just that thought made me feel a whole lot better.

SEVEN DAYS LATER…

Days had passed since my victory at the witch’s kingdom, nothing out of the ordinary had happened to me yet, I didn’t lose my powers too so I concluded that the witch’s curse was just bluff. I didn’t let it disturb me again and I just resorted to planning the party I was going to throw to launch my merge with the witch’s kingdom that I just conquered.

Morning came again that day and I was meant to be out of bed already for my daily morning training but strangely, all I wanted to do was remain in bed because I felt too tired and lazy to get up. My alarm began to ring from my phone that laid right beside me and I quickly turned it off before I went back to sleep.

Suddenly, someone knocked on the door and I sat up in bed immediately before I yelled for the person to come inside. The door went open and it was a maid carrying a tray with filled with breakfast that came in. I glared at her as she placed the tray with trembling hands on the table opposite my bed and the coffee spilled onto the table. She gasped and quickly began to wipe it off with a handkerchief from her pocket.

I dashed from my bed toward her and I grabbed her by the wrist tightly and roughly while she shook in fear with her head bent because they knew the rules… nobody dared to look me in the eyes when I was speaking to them.

“Did I ask for breakfast?” I asked her and she shook her head rapidly in response.

“When I am talking to you, you should use your mouth to reply so SPEAK!” I yelled at her and she gasped again before she began to speak with her head still bent.

“The luna said to bring you breakfast because you needed to rest today” she said and I groaned as I let her hand go and pointed at the tray.

“Take it and leave, and tell that luna to make her way here this instant” I ordered her and with her body still trembling while I towered over her, she grabbed the tray and bowed before me before she scurried out of the room and it was just me once again.

I began to get ready for my training as I put on my training clothes and minutes later, a light knock came on the door before it opened and then Luna, Amanda came inside with a wide grin on her face. It suddenly became my mission to wipe that smile off her face because seeing her being so cheerful pissed me off.

“Good morning alpha, did you like the breakfast I made for you?” she asked me and I sighed before I tucked my hands into my pocket and looked at her with empty eyes.

“Do I have breakfast this early in the morning?” I asked her and I watched as her eyes shook with uncertainty while I bored holes into her head.

“Um, you don’t but when you didn't show up to train yet, I thought you were going to rest for the day” she replied and I laughed lightly while she looked at me with confused eyes.

“Is anything wrong alpha?” she asked me and I looked at her for a little while before I took steps closer to her and made sure she felt uncomfortable from my eyes staring at her so coldly.

“Tell me Amanda, aren’t you sick of this?” I asked her, gesturing between the two of us and she looked utterly lost which meant she didn't understand what I was talking about.

“I don’t understand what you mean alpha,” she said and I rolled my eyes tiredly before I looked back at her to continue what I was saying.

“You are so clingy that it’s sickening Amanda. Every single time, I treat you like shit to get you off my back but it seems like you’ve lost your self respect and you just don’t mind looking stupid over and over again” I told her and she bent her head when I was done speaking.

Seeing that she wasn’t replying, I took that as my cue to continue, and hurting people was my specialty, especially when they deserved it.

“So Amanda, I am going to tell you for the millionth time since the day I was forced by my father to accept you as my mate, I never loved you and I never will so stop trying so hard because it’s embarrassing okay” I added to what I said previously and after a while, I heard her sniffing and I chuckled.

“You should leave now so you won’t get my rug wet with your pathetic tears,” I said once again to her and just as I was about to walk away, her palm made contact with my face and I could feel the sting on my skin still as I looked at her with rage in my eyes. Did she just slap me?

“Have you lost your mind?” I yelled at her with wide eyes and she scoffed with tear filled eyes while looking up at me. She shook her head before she spoke.

“No, you have lost your own damn mind speaking to me like that” she said and I stormed at her with fury raging through me. The only person who had ever hit me like that was my father and it was because I let him so I was going to make her regret hitting me like that because I wasn’t planning to let her get away with it.

“I’ll make you pay for what you just did and you will regret it for a long long time” I said to her with gritted teeth while I shook with anger and I raised my hand to let my claws out but nothing happened.

I tried again but nothing happened and I froze as the memory of the witch’s curse replayed in my head at that moment. Fear that I hadn’t felt in a long time racked through me as I found it hard to believe what was happening. I felt like It couldn't be, it was impossible for me to just lose my powers like that just because of a witch’s curse.

Noticing that Amanda was still there and she was staring at me, waiting for me to strike at her, I just glared at her and yelled at her to leave my room which she did without trying to resist and it was just me in the room.

I rushed for my mirror and looked at my reflection in it. I looked normal so it was hard to believe that anything was wrong with me but I still wanted to be sure of what was going on so I stared hard at myself through the mirror and tried to let my fangs out but nothing happened.

I tried so many times after but it was the same thing. My fangs and claws weren’t working any longer no matter how hard I tried, my super strength was gone because I suddenly felt so weak on the inside, and even when I tried to shift to my werewolf form, it wasn’t working too.

I was just like a regular human; powerless just like the witch said I would be and it felt horrifying and scary for me to experience. If anyone knew of what was happening, especially if it got to the neighboring packs, they were all going to come for me and I was going to lose everything I had ever worked for. So it was best I kept it to myself until I was going to find a solution for the curse I had brought upon myself and that was to seek forgiveness from someone I had hurt.

The problem was, where was I going to find such a person?

Suddenly, I began to wish that I didn’t invade the witch’s kingdom… Because now I was cursed by a dead witch.
