GEMMA'S POV

"Get your hands off me," I growl, reaching for the sword hanging by my side.

"Why?" The voice asks.

"Because I can kill."

"Well... kill me then."

I try to move my arms, but the man holding me is so strong that I find it difficult to move. For all I know, it is the bearded man who came to confront me and ask me to go back home, as he must have been watching me while we were on the march, and following when I moved away.

"What are you waiting for?" He asks again.

With a quick jerk, I send a backward kick into his crotch, and his hold on me is instantly released as he crashes down to the ground. At the same time, I pull the sword by my side and hold it up to his neck, barely able to see him with how dark this part of the woods is.

"Do you still want me to kill you, or are you willing to run off?"

The man on the ground starts to laugh before grabbing the tip of my sword in his hand. Slowly, he stands up to his feet while I follow him with my eyes, unwilling to shed friendly b

GEMMAThough everything cleared up, he remained moody and aloof till night. With everyone now aware that he was the Alpha, Rose and Alynna's house were filled with people who had come to see him and to pay their respects. What I found amusing were the gifts they brought to him which ended up being even far more than what Alfred and his men could gather. Even far into the night, there were still so many visitors, so that the Alpha had to move elsewhere for Rose and Alynna to sleep in peace in their own home. The next day came and he was still speaking to those who came to see him, placing himself in a distance that allowed the house to be free. That was when a number of women came to visit, to express their surprise that the Alpha had been hiding in a house just as small as theirs. I do not know if they knew that I could hear them, but it was to my hearing that they started to ask Rose how human he was and if he ate, slept, peed, and even breathed. I stood listening to them, wondering

GEMMA I did not know much about Alfred. I didn't even know him.Yet when they returned so quickly that I wondered if Alfred was close by, and with him hanging between them as the crowd started to curse and spit, I felt pity for him. It was like watching the highest mountains crash into the sea and seeing the world turn upside down in a supernatural twist. I barely recognized him when they dropped him at the Alpha's feet too, his red hair taking up enough of the dust on the floor and mingling with it. His once-fine cloak, a beautiful work of art threaded with gold thread, had now become a disgraced ruin, streaked with dirt and blood. At the sight of him in a state that was so vulnerable, the crowd surged forward, their moving sea of heads looking to me like a tide of fury that I was caught up and trapped in. Around me, mothers clutched their children while spitting curses, and the elders did the same, throwing saliva into the dust. I pressed my lips together at the sight of all this

  • THE ALPHA'S MATE IS AN ASSASIN   THROUGH HER EYES

GEMMAEvery time I thought I knew Alpha Grey, he only stepped up and did something to blow me away and make me wonder what kind of man he was. For seven days, I watched him pretend to be a mute and deaf man outside and in places where he would be seen while allowing me to ask the questions. Many of the people cursed him in his hearing, but he did not seem to bother so much about it, and he only continued to listen to all they had to say about him.Inside, he had become Alynna's father and Rose's husband, caring for them so intimately that it was as though he had known them for so long. I envied them both-Alynna sitting in his lap at any time she wished, and Rose saying all she had to say for him to listen. Then there I was, nothing but his concubines and a member of his harem. He would remain with them until night and then disappear, only coming back as the sun rose. None of us ever knew where he went, and we would all be alone until he came as the sun rose. Then the sunrise came tha

ALPHA GREY I walked forward, and pulled my cloak apart, tearing it from my skin, and again, gasps went around the crowd. I, their Alpha, standing in their midst with nothing but my underclothes. What made them gasp was the skin of my back. The whiplashes had gotten to my skin, with the wounds inflicted on both the herald and that one soldier. "Look at me, my people." I cried out, spreading my arms before then. "Before you all, my men whipped me for thinking I was one of you. This is proof that I knew nothing about all that happened here to you. Still, I ask that you forgive me, for bringing an army that will rob and pillage you, and setting a tyrant over you to rule. I also take these wounds on my body as my punishment."They only bowed in response, all of them, before me in my underclothes. Every single one of them bowed before me, from soldier to commoner to rich to poor to adult to child."Men of my army," I called out, and the soldiers jumped up. "You might yet earn your mercy,

  • THE ALPHA'S MATE IS AN ASSASIN   CHANCE

ALPHA GREY The opportunity to make Alfred pay for his crimes came far sooner than any expected.Taking care of my horse was something I made sure to do every night, where I would make sure to gather enough food and water for it to survive the day. I also found a rock to roll over the mouth of the cave and keep all suspicions from my animal again. I had just spent my night with the animal and was returning when I heard a trumpet blowing. From the sound, this was the trumpet anyone who wanted to say something important and gather people to themselves used. I continued to walk without fear, and as I did, the sound of hooves drumming on the floor came from behind me. I did not turn to see who it was too. That was beneath me."Hey. Did you not hear the trumpet?"I did not reply and only walked on, my cloak hiding my face."You-" the soldier speaking to me muttered under his breath, and I heard the sound of his whip cracking in the air before it hit my back, causing me to grunt under my b

  • THE ALPHA'S MATE IS AN ASSASIN   PROOF

ALPHA GREY Over the next few days, I lived not as Alpha, but as a commoner.Rose managed to find some of her husband's old clothes that had long been out of use, tore them apart into neat pieces, and joined them together again with an intricate but backbreaking sewing process in order to create a cloak I could wear and which would have a hood that could hide my face at the same time. She also gave Gemma one of her old clothes as they were of almost the same size, and since Gemma had no notable features that she could be recognised by if my men saw her, less enthusiasm was put into her disguise.Though not a word was said, I could feel the neighbour's questions thrown around about who the new man with Rose was, and how soon she had gotten with a new one right after her husband's death. However, I always spoke to her in private about the importance of what I was doing. It was to avenge her husband and for her sake, so that they would all get the justice they deserved. She understood to
