ANDRE POV

Lydia hurried off to help set the table for dinner and Lillian went with her, after she gave me a small smile as she left the room. Willow was talking to me in the sitting hall, telling me about her Buisness plans in the city. But my mind was somewhere else.

I could see Salome and Lucas out in the balcony, and they were talking in hushed tones. Salome’s arms were crossed, and I knew what that meant.

“Willow, please excuse me for a moment,” I said.

“Ofcourse,” she said with a kind smile on her face.

I walked out to the balcony, and welcomed the cool evening air as it hit my face.

As soon as I stepped out, Salome scoffed loudly and Lucas shot her a stern look.

“I know what this is about,” I said without any preamble.

“Do you?” Salome asked sharply.

“Willow is just my friend,” I said, as I desperately tried to keep my voice calm. “She is a good person. You should give her a chance to show you that.”

Salome shook her head. “I am not doubting if she is a good person, Andre. Inf

DRAKE POVI sat alone in the dining hall, working through the pack reports, with the only sound echoing on the hall was my pen scratching across the paper. Then I heard a faint giggle from the doorway.I looked up. Sharon was heading against the doorframe, watching me with a sly smile on her face.I rolled my eyes. “Do not even think about messing with me today, Sharon. I am not in the mood.”She walked lazily towards the table. “Things just got more interesting around here.”“What do you mean?”She giggled. “Oh poor Lillian.”I frowned. “What about Lillian?”“She does not stand a chance against Andre’s new bestie,” Sharon said, with her voice filled with fake pity.I growled. “Excuse me. I am busy. And for your information, Andre’s guest has a name. It is Willow.”Sharon ignored me. Instead she pulled out the chair right beside me and sat down. Our legs touched briefly under the table and I quickly shifted mine away.“She is Andre’s bestie to me,” Sharon said and leaned closer. “You

LILLIAN POVThe funny feeling about Baron and Wanni was still there in the back of my mind. It was like a small, sharp rock in my shoe. I walked over to the table full of cakes. Salome was there, looking very serious at six different kinds. As soon as she saw me, her face lit up. “Lillian!” She cried, and pulled me into a big hug.I smiled. “Have you had anything to drink?”But she waved her hand dismissively, “One glass of champagne won’t hurt me. But these cakes! Which one? The chocolate or the strawberry?” Then she looked at me closer. “What have you up to? You look thoughtful.”I sighed deeply. “Dr. Wanni introduced me to….Baron.”Salome’s eyes went wide. “Baron? The Baron? For the hospital? How did they know each other?”“I do not know,” I said quietly. “Wanni said they are old friends. Their families go way back.”Salome glanced across the room. Wanni and Baron were talking now, their heads close together. They did not look like they were at a fun party. They looked serious. “Li

ANDRE POVI sat in my room by the fire, watching Willow tell a story, with her hands moving as she spoke.“….and little Andre, you stood on that old log. You said you were king of the whole forest! You made me promise to obey you. I had to bring you acorns every day for a week.”I laughed genuinely, even though it sounded rusty in my ears, due to disuse, it felt good. “I forgot about that.”“I have not,” she said with a soft smile on her face. “They are good memories. The only good ones from before…..everything.”I watched her. She was a friend from my childhood, someone I had not seen in years. All day, I had been busy with her. Listening to her stories about when we were kids. Watching her to see what kind of person she was now. She was not cold and mean like Sharon and Elara. She was just Willow. Kind. Easy to be with. Then a sharp pang of guilt twisted my gut. Lillian.I had promised to keep in touch today. I had meant to. But the day passed quickly with Willow, and I forgot.“You

LILLIAN POVBaron brought my hand to his lips, with his eyes never leaving mine. “Lillian. What a delightful surprise. We meet again.” His lips were cool against my skin and I pulled my hand back gently, as I tried to keep my composure. “Baron, I was not expecting to see you here.” Before I could say any more, “Dr. Wanni cut in, with her head tilted sideways in a curious manner. “You know each other?” Baron chuckled lightly. Then he slid his hands into his pockets, as he looked effortlessly at ease. “Dr. Lillian was my attending physician when I had that unfortunate….incident a few months back. The axe wound on my shoulder, remember? She patched me up quiet nicely.”Wanni widened her eyes as she looked from Baron to me, with a genuine smile breaking across her face. “For real? You were the one who treated him? Oh that is priceless! No wonder he told he was ‘already covered’ when I offered to look at it at the clinic last two months. He said he had the best care already. Now I see w

LUCAS POVThe next morning, I knocked on Drake’s chamber door.“Enter,” his voice came from inside, already alert.I walked in to find him fully dressed in his formal Alpha attire, straightening his cuffs. “By the Moon, Drake. It is barely dawn. You are a early bird and a workaholic. It is disturbing.”He laughed dryly, “And what does that make you, knocking on my door at this hour?”I walked over to the side table and poured a small glass of whiskey as I ignored his raised eyebrow in my direction. “It makes me a concerned friend who needs fuel. So what is the plan today?”“I have council meeting at nine,” he said he checked his watch. “But first, I need to check on Elara. Briefly.”I snorted into my glass. “Oh no. You are not going alone. Or better yet, let me go check in her. You stay here.”But he shook his head. “And let Salome skin me alive when she finds out I sent you into the viper’s den? No, thank you.”I shrugged. “She does not have to know.”“I can not trust Elara to keep
