REJECTED

Astrid

Magnus swept me up in his powerful arms, and I was overwhelmed by a deep sense of security and safety—a feeling I wasn't accustomed to. Not ever since I lost Axel, I nestled my head into the crook of his neck, inhaling the scent of leather and spice, and felt my tense body relax.

I felt so secure and protected; I felt the urge to smile joyfully. In relief, wordlessly, he carried me in his firm hold as he walked out of my parents’ house and stopped in front of a cart.

I marveled at how soft and relaxed the cushion of the cart chair felt to my touch, as I had never been in one before. I never went anywhere, so being clueless about these things

 was natural.

I felt tiny, protected, vulnerable, and safe in his arms. The world outside receded, and all that mattered was the warmth, comfort, and sense of belonging I found in his embrace.

I felt so much at home when I hugged him tighter against my chest. I needed him to feel safe, but he needed me to get inside the cart. So, I did as I was told and entered the cart.

He sat directly opposite me, and I spent my time trying not to stare at him. I didn't want him creeped out. As we journeyed on, I noticed a subtle change in his demeanor.

He seemed to be withdrawing, his gaze drifting away from mine, his expression increasingly stoic. I couldn't understand why. He stared out the cart window with total concentration staring at nothing in particular.

But every time I caught him looking at me, his eyes would dart away, focusing on the passing scenery. It was as if he was trying to distract himself from me. I was confused and worried. Was I doing something wrong? Was he regretting his decision to take me with him?

Were they only overthinking things?

Not wanting to seem like a creep, I followed his lead, gazing out at the rolling hills and trees. But my attention kept drifting back to him, trying to read his expression, to understand what was bothering him.

His jaw was clenched, his eyes fixed intently on some point in the distance. I wondered what he was thinking. Was he cursing himself for bringing me along, or was he angry that he had ended all relations with my father?

Had I made a mistake? Could this have been a mistake? I stared at my folded palms, my heart heavy with the thought of being rejected by my mate. Why was he acting this way? Why was he being so distant? Did someone tell him that I had killed my brother?

My heart shattered into a million pieces at the possibility. The silence between us was suffocating. Usually, mates could never keep their hands off each other when they found themselves. Anel had told me that the male was more protective and would never let go of the female.

Maybe he didn't want to impose. But then, his deep voice broke the silence, sending shivers down my spine. "What's your name?"

My knees felt weak, my pulse racing. I looked up, meeting his gaze. His eyes bore into my soul as if searching for something deep within me. I swallowed hard, trying to find my voice. "Astrid," I whispered, my voice barely audible.

He nodded, his eyes never leaving mine. "I'm Magnus."

My heart skipped a beat. Magnus? The powerful male Anel had told me about earlier? The wealthiest and strongest? I couldn't believe it. Me, Astrid, mated to the legendary Magnus?

My mind immediately drew back to Anel. Oh shit. I had left her back at home without even looking back. She was my good friend. My only friend

I would miss her.

I was pulled out of my thoughts again when I heard his calm and husky voice.  "We'll be stopping soon, Astrid. We need to rest and eat."

Whenever he called my name, I wanted to fall and worship him.

As the cart pulled up to a small clearing, Magnus jumped down, his movements fluid and graceful. He turned to me, offering a hand up, and I took it, feeling a spark of electricity as our palms touched.

We walked to a nearby stream, where Magnus produced a small food basket. I watched, amazed at how neat and orderly he was when he spread out a feast before us - juicy meats, fresh fruits, and crusty bread.

"Astrid, eat," he said after noticing I was lost. I couldn't even form a single sentence. All I could do was nod.

I took a bite, the flavors exploding on my tongue. It was like nothing I'd ever tasted before.

As we ate, Magnus said nothing, just stared at the space before us as though it was the most exciting sight in the world. Maybe he wasn't considering rejection earlier. Perhaps he had only been shy. A broad smile spread across my cheeks at the thought.

As we finished our meal, Magnus' gaze locked onto mine, his eyes burning with intensity. He stared at me for minutes, and I couldn't help but blush. "Astrid, you're beautiful, gorgeous," he said, his voice low and husky.

I felt a blush rise to my cheeks, my heart beating. No one had ever told me that before, and although I knew I was, no one ever said it except.... Him. His expression suddenly turned severe. "But I don't believe in the mate bond," he said, his voice firm. I was taken aback, confusion and surprise washing over me.

I felt paralyzed with shock.

Magnus stood up; his movements abrupt. "I don't believe in some mystical force dictating who I should be with. I want to love someone of my own volition, by  my own will."

I felt like I'd been punched in the gut, my breath knocked out of me. "But... but....the bond....." What was he talking about? The band was a beautiful and sacred thing.

Magnus shook his head. "I don't care about the bond, Astrid. I didn't ask for it, and I don't want it. I want to choose who I love, not have it imposed on me."

Tears pricked at the corners of my eyes as I realized what he was saying. "You can't be with me," I whispered in shock, willing myself not to cry. At least not in front of him.

Magnus turned away, his back to me. "I'm sorry, Astrid. But I can't."

And with that, he walked away, leaving me alone in the clearing with hot tears streaming down my face.

I felt like my heart had been removed from the confinement of my heart and ripped apart. My heart was shattering all over again, and this pain was unlike anything I'd ever felt before

When my family abandoned me and blamed me for Axel's death, I had been hurt terribly, and I had felt nothing could ever hurt more. Then came Magnus, and I realized all the pain I had experienced in my twenty-one years alive was nothing compared to what I was feeling right now.

My hands tightened around my chest as I cried bitterly. Why was I so pathetic...?

  • THE ALPHA WHO SAVED ME WITH HIS MATE BOND   NEW ENEMIES

AstridThe bass from the club's music still pulsed in my veins as I leaned against the car window, watching the darkened streets blur past. Magnus's hands gripped the steering wheel, knuckles white, the tension between us obvious. Meredith sat in the back seat, her silence more telling than words. The night had been a chaotic mess of emotions, and now, as we neared home, the reality of our situation settled over us like a heavy fog.Magnus pulled up to my house, the engine purring softly. "We're here," he said, his voice flat. I turned to Meredith. "Do you want to come in?"She shook her head, her eyes distant. "No, I need to get to my cabin. There are things I need to prepare."I nodded, understanding her to need for solitude. "I'll walk you part of the way."Meredith smiled faintly. "Thanks, Astrid."I planted a kiss on Magnus's lips as we stepped out of the car, the cool night air a stark contrast to the heat and noise of the club and the air-conditioned car. Magnus stayed behind,

  • THE ALPHA WHO SAVED ME WITH HIS MATE BOND   ATTEMPT ON MY LIFE

MagnusThe lights of Maple Dome shone like fireflies as we approached the club. It was a human establishment, buzzing with energy and the kind of carefree abandon that came with ignorance. For them, this was a place of release, a place to lose themselves in the night. For us, it was a dangerous playground.I glanced over at Astrid, her eyes scanning the crowd with a predatory glint. She looked stunning tonight, dressed in a sleek, black dress that hugged her every curve. Her hair, a cascade of dark waves, framed her sharp features, making her look every bit the lethal beauty she was. Beside her, Meredith was a stark contrast, her light hair and soft features exuding a calm, almost spiritual aura."Ready to have some fun?" I asked, nudging Astrid. She smirked, her eyes meeting mine. "Always."As we walked through the doors, the thumping bass of the music vibrated through my chest. The air was thick with the scent of sweat, alcohol, and human pheromones. It was intoxicating, and I could

  • THE ALPHA WHO SAVED ME WITH HIS MATE BOND   WHAT THE HEART WANTS

Astrid"What's going on here?" Magnus's mother asked, her eyes wide in surprise.Magnus took in a deep breath. "Mum, this isn't what it looks like.""Oh, but it is." She replied. "I'm not blind enough not to see that you are kissing the daughter of your father's enemy."She stepped into the elevator before it closed and stood in between both of us."I need to know everything." She said, her composure returned."Know what, Mum?" Magnus asked, his voice a little shaky. She glared at him. "Are you going to keep treating me like a fool, or do you want us handling this in your father's ward? Because trust me, I don't mind both."I pursed my lips together and stared at Magnus, who mouthed, 'Should we tell her?'I shook my head at him. Telling his mother could go two ways; She could either be on our side and keep this a secret, or She would go straight to Mr. Pendragon instead and tell him everything, who, in bitter spite, would tell my father. It would be one whole mess."Is something going

  • THE ALPHA WHO SAVED ME WITH HIS MATE BOND   CONNECTIONS

MagnusWe were all about to go into the hospital when I caught Astrid's scent. I stopped automatically by the door, and even though several cars pulled in at once, my eyes were on just one.I knew the one she was sitting in instantly; I could feel her presence and aura, even her scent before the car stopped. The other people behind me stopped, too; they knew it had to be someone important for there to be that number of cars behind them. She eventually stepped out and I could swear that my heart stopped for a second there. She looked so ethereal even though she was dressed in casual wear. And when our eyes met, it was all so magical. I missed her so much that it hurt. She kept her eyes on mine as she walked over to me, making a beeline move towards me.No one or nothing else mattered at that moment; all I could see was Astrid. It was after she got to me that everything my nose could pick up was her that I came back to reality."Hi." She said in a little voice, a little smile on her fac

  • THE ALPHA WHO SAVED ME WITH HIS MATE BOND   ASSUMPTIONS

Astrid"Hello. I answered brutally. Magnus had called me earlier at home in front of my father's peering eye. "I will call him in the office." I had thought."Your voice sounds somehow," Magnus answered from the other end. It was ironic. Since his voice sounded pale"Well, that's because you called me right In front of my father." I snapped. "Like right in front of Bina Tau," I emphasized, hoping he gets the message and how easy it is for covers to be blown. A great thing he didn't even notice the Pendragon scent oozing out of me.""Oozing." Magnus seemed offended by the use of the word. "I thought Meredeth shielded the scent?" Well, Darius nearly choked on its last night. " I could feel him getting tensed from the other end. "He kept asking what was oozing out of my room," I said. Purposely using the word again."Why do you keep using the word oozing? Do I smell that much?" He snarled from the other end of the phone."You're reading meanings, Dom." I shortened his name. Hoping he wo

  • THE ALPHA WHO SAVED ME WITH HIS MATE BOND   STRANGE DESIRES

AstridIt's just the perfect timing for me to fight with Magnus now; my heat decided to make itself known. And all I could think about was him, holding him close to me, inhaling his scent till I fell asleep and also woke up to it.Since I left him this afternoon, my entire body has been on fire. I used my wolf's remaining power to conceal my scent; that was all she could do so it wouldn't go out to unmated males. If I didn't conceal it, there'd be chaos outside the house already. Any male werewolf that isn't mated would smell the scent of my arousal from miles away. Their wolves would lose control, and they'd trace where the scent was coming from. It's rare since most werewolves mate almost immediately after they meet their mates. Only female werewolves who have met their mates and haven't completed the mating rites go through the pain.I doubled over as another pain appeared in my stomach. Only one thing can cure this, and its sex; I either have sex with another male or complete the
