Chapter 5

“I beg your pardon” Alpha Kevin, Marco's father spurted out in disbelief. It was one thing for Alpha Bruce to be interested in the fortnight ceremony but it was another thing for him to be interested in buying the omega he had spent the night with.

Marco’s brow creased in confusion, “why do you want to buy her?” He asked the question that was clouding everyone's mind present. “She’s nothing and doesn’t…”

“How much are you willing to sell her to me?” Alpha Bruce asked again, his voice not betraying or giving anything out.

Ivy swallowed as she stared at the man she thought was different. Of course, she was just an Omega, she doesn’t deserve to be happy. First, Marco didn’t want to be with her, and her second mate was acting like he didn’t sense the mate bond. The way her heart skipped whenever he was close to her.

She swallowed the lump that rose in her throat. He wanted her but as his slave. Isn’t that why he was asking to buy her?

“Alpha Bruce just like I have said before, this woman is a thief. She stole my precious jade and I’m not about to allow a thief to walk scot free” he announced, his tone came out intimidating, leaving no room for discussion. But then again, he was addressing an Alpha, a man of the same caliber his powers didn’t work on him.

“Well then, if you insist then I suggest you train your warriors yourself” The threat hung in the air. Marco scoffed, of course, the egotistical Alpha would bring that up. He hated that his father had sought help from the Black Heart Pack making them feel they were superior over him.

“Do you have something to say, Marco?” Bruce taunted. He spat out his name like a tasteless food out of his mouth. Marco could sense the animosity in his words.

“Is that a threat, Alpha Bruce?” Marco hissed, forcing himself to remain grounded on the floor so as not to charge at the man who was smirking at him.

“I don’t know. Is it?” Bruce taunted. That did it for Marco as he lost his cool.

“You walk in here all high and mighty wanting to claim what’s not yours Alpha Bruce,” he walked towards Bruce, his chest puffed out almost in a challenging manner.

Bruce’s lips tilted, his fists clenched at his sides. He growled, “That’s because I am”

“Oh, you…”

“That’s enough, Marco!” Alpha Kevin interrupted. He knew if the two were to get into a brawl his son wasn’t going to come out of it alive and if Alpha Bruce decides to spare him, he would make sure to leave him in a mess on the floor.

“If you want the girl, you can have her” Alpha Kevin couldn’t care more or less about the omega but kept it in his mind to ask his son why he had acted in such a manner and towards an Alpha.

“But I must remind you, she is not to be trusted. Remember she stole here” Alpha Kevin warned.

“I guess that will be my problem now, won’t it?”

“Well. Since all that is settled, why don’t you come have a seat and join us?” Alpha Kelvin requested, wanting to clear the animosity in the air.

“Do not worry about me, Alpha. I think it would be best if I take my leave,” he threw a smile at Marco who didn’t hide the detests in his eyes, “ I mean I have got a slave to settle in” he added, making his voice loud so that Marco could get even more pushed.

Alpha Kelvin tried to insist but the determined and concise tone from Bruce made him settle with his answer. “Very well then, if you say so.” He waved as Bruce nodded and walked towards Ivy who had been quiet since the whole haggle began.

“Send my regards to your father,” he bade. The three young pups Bruce had settled were called upon as they began to head to the convoy that would lead them to the Black Heart Pack.

“Move closer,” Bruce ordered. They were miles away from the Nile Pack, almost approaching the Black Heart Pack when Bruce suddenly decided to speak to the girl beside him.

“If you don’t mind, I am more comfortable this way,” Ivy replied. She bit her tongue as she realized how disrespectful and rude her statement was. But what was to say about a man who was her mate but didn’t acknowledge her? It was time she learned to be alone, not that she hadn’t been alone all her life.

Bruce chuckled. “I mind” he dragged her towards him and placed her on his lap. Ivy stiffened, she dared not move herself on his lap as she sat still.

“Now, this is better” he mumbled.

His scent wafted into her nose, intoxicating her. She threw a quick side glance at him to study his profile. Last night she hadn’t been opportune to see the man who was her mate properly. She didn’t even know anything about him but one thing was for sure. He was fucking bipolar. First, he acted all nice with her and then he began to act like she didn’t exist. Does he even know they were mates?

“What’s going on in that pretty head of yours, mate?” She turned swiftly to glance at him. Mate. He called her his mate, all this time he acted like he had no idea who she was and…

“Does my presence bother you?” He asked again, bringing her out of her thoughts.

“Not at all,” she answered. “It’s just that I would like to sit on the chair and not on your lap” she whispered.

Bruce stared at the strange woman. The moon goddess must be playing some sort of game with him to have given him an omega for a mate. He sighed, an omega for a mate was better than having none. He has waited for so long to find the one meant for him.

“Why? I’m pretty sure my laps are more comfortable than the fucking seat” he growled. He shook his head. his mate showing disinterest in him irked him. He had expected her to be grateful he saved her from the hands of those witless murderers but instead, she hadn’t even acknowledged him.
