Chapter 5 Unexpected Call

Janet lay on her bed smiling and looking at the ceiling but not actually focusing on anything. When she came back home she said hi to everyone, when she checked in on Damon and she noticed that he seemed restless, she felt he may be in pain. But her mom told her not to fret, "He is just uncomfortable having to lay on the same position all the time, he will be fine".

Janet wasn't convinced, she was still worried and tried to convince her mom that perhaps they should go back to the hospital. Her mom won't have any of it so she had no choice but to come to her room to rest after having small talks with her parents. 

But now that she remembered Jayden, she couldn't stop smiling. Thinking of the way he smiled at her while squinting his sexy eyes as if she was a silly little thing. Her smile deepened and she felt silly, she haven't done anything like that before and she felt like she has become quiet as mischievous as Danielle for even daring to walk up to a total stranger, a hot one at that. "Hmmm" he his handsome, tall, well built, his dimples when he smiled is the cherry on top of the cake. She can only imagine how hard his abs will be. 

He was wearing a blue jean and simple white T Shirt, but it looks like he was modelling the clothing he had on instead. When she thought of him and his looks he gives her the Idris Alba kinda vibes. Sigh. "Why am I behaving like a high schooler thinking of her first crush again?" 

'He is way out of my league, plus competing against Danielle is like Messi trying to beat Usain Bolt in a race or Usain Bolt trying to dribble Messi. Is that even possible? A divine intervention perhaps?'

Janet was still lost in her thoughts when her brother knocked once and opened the door. "Janet?"

When Johnson saw that Janet didn't even notice him. He walked in and snapped his fingers. “Sis!’’ 

Janet jolted back to reality and slightly irritated “You scared me” 

Johnson smirked, looked at her thoughtfully “What were you smiling at?”

 Janet a little bit irritated that he interrupted her sweet thoughts glared at him “Nothing, what do you want?”

Johnson looked at her with a mischievous glint in his eyes and started singing “Hmm someone is in Love” he started snapping his fingers while moving from side to side “love, love, love, loooooovee, someone is in love, love love  ohhh ahhh ahh ahhh love is a beautiful thing, some people even fall without knowing. While some do with their eyes wide oooppeeennnnn ooohh”.

Janet gave him a stern look. Laughing he raised his hands in a surrender and said – “Okay, okay, I just wanted to let you know that Damon finally slept and we don’t need to go back to the hospital”

“Oh thank God, I was going to come check on him but got lost in my thoughts”.

"Mom told me you were worried so I thought I should let you know"

"Thank you, I will check on him before I go to bed"

Johnson looked at her mischievously – “Goodnight sis, and dream of him, whomever He is, hahahaha” 

Janet threw a pillow at her brother he dodges and ran out of her room.

She smiled as she pictured Jayden’s sexy smile and sighed “He is so cute”

She turned the bedside lamp off to scroll through her phone a bit and sleep after replying some messages.  "I shouldn't disturb Damon since he is sleeping, my poor - poor baby Dam dam" 

She was still contemplating if she should go check on Damon first or go to sleep when her phone rang, surprised, she muttered  –“Who could be calling at this hour?” 

She stared at the strings of unknown number for a while and picked up “Hello”.

“Hello” replied a deep sexy voice. She was still wondering who it could be when he said “So how did the bet go? Did you win?”

Her heart was hammering at her chest with both surprise and excitement. 

Thump thump thump 

'Could it be him? How did he get my number?' 

She mustered up the courage to reply and asked with a shaky voice– “Is this the guy from the resort?”

She can hear the amusement in his voice when he answered – “Who else will know about the bet other than me?”

Her eyes widened –“Mr. Jayden, I am so sorry, I didn’t recognize your voice, but how did you get my number?”

“I have my sources” 

“Sources? Now you are scaring me.” Janet felt weird.

Jayden can’t help but laugh– “You are so cute, I am not a stalker I promise. I actually typed in my number and called my line. I am guessing you didn’t actually check what I typed on your phone”

Janet was shocked – “I didn’t know that you will really typed in your number Mr. Jayden, I was a stranger. Remember?”

Jayden chuckled – “Not anymore. I wanted to help you win the bet, Although I don't remember telling you my name."

Janet "..."

"So?..."

Janet felt like she has been caught with her hands in the pot of soup. "Mr Jayden, actually one of my friends knew you, so she told me"

"Oh, do I know this friend of yours?"

"I am sure you do, she was once an employee of yours"

"Is she also in on your bet?"

"Yes"

"Hmm, once an employee, which means she is no longer an employee, what's her name?"

"Mr Jayden are you upset that she told me your name?"

"Of course not, if you don't want to tell me her name, no problem, something tells me I will know sooner than later"

Janet still wondering if she should mention Danielle's name or not. Will it, affect her bet ...

"And by the way, Call me Jayden”

Janet felt butterflies fluttering deep in her tummy and blushing she tested the name – “Jayden”

He smiled “That’s much better. So, you didn’t answer my question, did you win the bet?”

 “Hmmm not really, it’s much more complicated than just getting your imaginary number, which, by the way turned out to be real”

Jayden now curious – “Give me the whole gist”

Janet raised her eyebrow– “Huh? That will be breaking the girl code, sorry but I can’t”

“It’s okay, I understand girl codes and all that, so I will let you keep your secrets. I know a thing or two about such bets, after all, I have some of the most mischievous friends” 

“Is that so?” – Janet was now intrigued

“Oh definitely, I remembered that one time that my friend Deji, made us took a bet that the first person to get the most beautiful girl in school to be his girlfriend gets 50k from all the losers"

"Really? So who won?"

"Back then none of us can actually compete with Deji when it comes to smooth talking, I think he was born with the gift, but I guess when it comes to girls they always choose the most attentive, and Deji is easily distracted"

"So you are saying you are very attentive when it comes to girls?"

"Of course, if I really like the girl, but don't forget it was just a bet, I admit I cheated a bit, I dangled another fine girl in front of Deji and he fell for it. I set the stage for the girl to find him with the other beauty and that's how he lost"

"That must have been hilariously painful. Did he find out you set him up?"

"Nope"

"So you cheated."

"I later found out I didn't even have to do that, she actually preferred me to him"

"You are so humble Jayden, Self praise much?"

Jayden couldn't stop laughing "Nah, I am serious, she told Bode our other friend that ended up with her"

Janet shocked "So you didn't win?"

"Not really, when we noticed Bode was really into her, and not for the bet, we decided to withdraw"

"How noble of you. So you lost 50k?"

"We actually ended the bet when he told us that he was serious about her . He later told her about the bet and she admitted she already knew something was up when the four of us started giving her attention out of the blue"

"Oh, i guess that was when she told your friend her choice, but didn't Bode feel bad?"

"If he did, he didn't show it, he is quiet used to women flocking around us and me in particular, it shouldn't come to him as a shock."

"How humble of you Jayden"

Jayden laughing "I am just stating facts. I was quiet the silent charmer back then".

"Of course you are, you still got your charm, last I checked all my friends can't stop saying how handsome you are"

"You see? I am not the one to brag, but I do know I am very charming" 

"..." Janet was rendered speechless.

Janet couldn't stop laughing as he told her some other interesting stories.

Jayden smiling, "I am glad I could make you laugh this much, so jokes aside now that I have told you about my bets, won't you tell me about yours?"

Janet made a zipping sign with her hands as if he could see her "Girl code, I can't tell you"

Jayden fake being disappointed "Alright, I will know sooner or later, so tell me a little about yourself"

"What do you want to know?"

"Let's start with your hobbies"

"Oh, uhmm, I like to read, cook, eat and sketch when I have free time"

"Hahaha you don't look like a foodie to me."

"I am a foodie actually, it just doesn't show on my body"

Jayden smiling, "hmmm and you do have a hot body if I may say so"

"Are you flirting with me Jayden"

"Maybe, aren't I quiet the charmer?"

"..."

Jayden doesn't want the lively conversation to turn awkward, "I was just joking, it's been so long, I can't remember when last I flirted, I believe I am a bit rusty"

"You don't sound rusty to me. So tell me your own hobbies too"

"Hmmm, working, sleeping, gaming…”

Two hours later, and they were both still chatting and laughing like two long lost friends. Janet’s phone is beginning to heat up. She looked at the clock, 12am – 'Oh shit' she muttered “I am so gonna sleep at  church tomorrow”

Jayden heard the last part and said “Let me allow you sleep, I talk a lot sometimes I know. It's just that after you left I couldn’t stop thinking about you and it made me smile each time, so I couldn’t help but call. Sorry for keeping you up this late”.

Janet was in a daze and can’t help but think 'He thought about me, wow'

She smiled –“Its okay, I really enjoyed all the stories, now I feel like I know all your friends even though I can’t place faces to the names. I haven’t laughed this much within a short period of time as I did tonight. Thank you for calling.”

“My pleasure, sleep tight” – Jayden dropped the call. 

Janet had the biggest and brightest smile on her face, she couldn't stop blushing as she recalled how deep and sexy he sounded, the way she was able to gist with him seems so natural it is almost impossible. She just met him today and she already felt like she has known him for years. 

She can't stop giggling as she recalled some of the stories he told her, it seems like his friends are even more mischievous than hers. She kept smiling until her eyes grew heavy and she slept off.
