Morning came too fast.

I woke in Albert's bed with his arm draped across my waist, holding me like I might disappear. We had not done anything—he slept on top of the covers while I stayed under them—but the weight of him beside me felt more intimate than anything I had experienced.

Today I was getting married.

Today someone would try to kill me.

"You are awake," Albert said, his voice rough with sleep.

"How did you know?"

"Your breathing changed." He sat up, and I saw he was already dressed except for his cut. "Ruby is downstairs with your dress. Knox has security posted every ten feet. Your father is losing his mind."

"Sounds about right." I turned to face him. "Are you ready for this?"

"To marry you or to catch a traitor?"

"Both."

He studied me with those gray eyes. "I have been ready to do whatever it takes to protect you since the moment your father announced this arrangement. The wedding is just making it official."

"That is not what I asked."

"I know." He stood, grabbed his leat

I counted heartbeats.Mine. Fading. Twenty-three since Albert walked out that door. The doctor pressed gauze against my incision, trying to stop the bleeding. Too much blood. I could feel my body shutting down, protecting what little life remained."Eva, stay with me," he said. "You are losing too much blood. I need to get you to a hospital.""Not until Albert comes back.""He might not come back.""Then I wait anyway."Through the broken window, I heard voices. Albert's, calm and cold. Victoria's, sharp with rage."You think you can negotiate?" Victoria shouted. "After everything you took from me?""I am not here to negotiate." Albert's voice carried across the clearing. "I am here to end this. One way or another.""Then give me Eva. Give me the baby. Let me take what you took from me.""Neither of those things is happening.""Then everyone here dies!"Gunfire erupted. Not just a few shots. A war. I tried to stand but my legs would not work. The doctor pushed me back down."You move,

The hospital doors exploded before we reached them. Not metaphorically. Literally exploded. Glass and metal erupted outward as we pulled into the emergency bay. Albert slammed the brakes, throwing us forward. Another contraction ripped through me, stealing my breath."Stay in the car!" Albert shouted, already moving."Like hell!" I pushed the door open as gunfire erupted from inside the hospital. Screaming. Running. Chaos.Victoria had not waited. She had struck first.Knox appeared beside us with four Vipers. "East entrance is compromised. We need to find another way in.""I am in labor!" Another contraction doubled me over. "I need a doctor. Now.""Then we get you one." Albert grabbed my arm, supporting my weight. "Sienna, call the club doctor. Have him meet us at the safe house.""The baby is coming too fast!" I gasped. "I will not make it to—"More explosions. The hospital's north wing erupted in flames. People poured out of exits, patients and staff fleeing for their lives."She

Six months passed without anyone trying to kill us.I did not trust it.My belly swelled with life while I waited for the other shoe to drop. Every unknown car made me reach for a weapon. Every strange phone call sent my heart racing. But nothing happened. The clubs rebuilt. Albert proved to be a better president than anyone expected—fair but firm, strategic but honorable. The Reapers under Hammer's leadership found stability. The alliance held. And I tried to pretend I was not terrified every single day."You are doing it again," Sienna said, watching me check the locks on the clubhouse doors for the third time that hour."Doing what?""Waiting for disaster. Eva, it has been six months. Maybe it is actually over.""Nothing is ever over. Not in this world." I turned from the door. "Victoria is out there somewhere. Planning. Waiting.""Or she is living her life and letting us live ours." Sienna grabbed my hand. "You cannot spend your whole pregnancy in fear. It is not healthy for you o

We made it five blocks before the car exploded. Not ours. The one in front of us. A Viper prospect's vehicle erupted in flames, metal and glass raining down on the street. Albert swerved hard, narrowly missing the debris."Everyone out!" he shouted. "Now!"We dove from the car as bullets shattered the windows. I hit the pavement hard, rolling behind a concrete barrier. Albert was beside me instantly, gun drawn, scanning for shooters."Rooftops!" Knox's voice came through the radio. "Multiple snipers! Three, maybe four!""Where the hell is our security?" Albert demanded."Dead." Hammer's voice, grim. "Someone hit them first. Professional job. We are compromised."I pressed against the barrier, feeling bullets chip away the concrete inches from my head. My hand instinctively went to my stomach. The baby. I was pregnant and trapped in a firefight."Eva, stay down!" Albert fired toward a rooftop. "Do not move until I clear a path!""Where are we going?""Anywhere but here!" He grabbed my

I threw up for the third morning in a row.Sienna held my hair back in the clubhouse bathroom, her expression somewhere between concern and knowing amusement."You need to tell him," she said."Tell him what? That I have got food poisoning? The flu? General exhaustion from being shot at constantly?""Eva. You are three weeks late. You have been nauseous every morning. And you keep crying at random things." She handed me a towel. "Take the test.""What test?"She pulled a pregnancy test from her jacket. "This test. The one I bought yesterday when you threw up after smelling coffee."My hands shook as I took it. "This is not possible. We have been careful—""Careful is not foolproof. Especially when you are living in constant danger and stress does weird things to birth control." Sienna pushed me toward the stall. "Take it. Now. Before I make you."Five minutes later, I stared at two pink lines.Pregnant.I was pregnant with Albert Morrison's child."Eva?" Sienna knocked. "What does it

  • THE BIKER'S NEW FOUND MATE    CHAPTER 17 - Chicago Burns

Chicago smelled like diesel and old money. We arrived at midnight with twelve Vipers, eight Reapers, and a plan that was either brilliant or suicidal. Knox had called in every favor owed to both clubs. Hammer had contacted his Chicago connections. Albert had mapped out Diane's known operations—three restaurants, two shipping companies, and a luxury hotel downtown. We were going to hit all of them in one night."Remember, we are not here to kill civilians," Albert said as we geared up in the warehouse we had rented. "We hit her businesses, destroy her infrastructure, send a message. But we do this clean.""Define clean," one of the Vipers said."Nobody dies who is not actively trying to kill us first.""That is surprisingly ethical for a man nicknamed Ghost.""My wife is a good influence." Albert looked at me. "You are staying in the van with Knox. Coordinating communications. Not fighting.""We talked about this—""And I told you I need you safe. This is not negotiable, Eva.""Actuall
