Chapter 11: The Father's Demand

Elliot's POV

Aiden told me to go home after work because he was going to dinner with his father alone. I argued that I should come since Richard wanted to meet me but Aiden said it would be better if he talked to his father first.

My apartment felt too quiet. I tried to watch TV but could not focus, I tried to read but the words did not make sense. All I could think about was Aiden sitting across from his father getting yelled at because of me.

I checked my phone every five minutes even though I knew Aiden would not text during dinner. He was probably sitting in some huge dining room in Richard's mansion eating fancy food while his father lectured him about ruining the family reputation.

By eight I gave up pretending I could do anything productive so I just sat on my couch staring at my phone.

Nine o'clock came then went, still nothing.

At ten I started really worrying. How long could one dinner take? Maybe Richard was making

Aiden stay longer to prove some kind of point. Maybe they were fighting, maybe Aiden was in trouble and I was just sitting here doing nothing.

I texted him "Are you okay?" then immediately regretted it because what if his phone went off during dinner and made things worse.

I stared at my phone waiting for the three dots that meant he was typing back but they never came.

Eleven o'clock. My leg would not stop bouncing. I got up then paced around my apartment which was only like ten steps from one wall to the other. My place was tiny compared to what I grew up in but it was mine and I loved it except for right now when it felt like a cage.

I thought about calling him but that seemed like a bad idea. If the dinner was going badly a phone call would just make it worse. If the dinner was going well then I would be interrupting. Either way I would look desperate and clingy which was not what Aiden needed right now.

Midnight hit and I was lying in bed staring at the ceiling when my phone finally buzzed. I grabbed it so fast I almost dropped it.

"We need to talk tomorrow," Aiden's message said. That was it, no explanation or details. Just those five words that made my stomach twist into knots.

I typed back "Okay" because what else could I say. He did not respond after that.

I could not sleep. I just lay there staring at the dark ceiling thinking about all the terrible things Richard might have said. All the ways this could go wrong.

All the reasons Aiden might want to talk which probably meant he was going to fire me or worse tell me we needed to stop whatever was happening between us.

My phone lit up again around one in the morning but it was not Aiden. It was another message from an unknown number. "Time is running out. Your father is losing patience."

I deleted it without responding because I was tired of getting threatened by everyone. My family, Vivian, Random people who worked for my family. Everyone wanted something from me and I had nothing left to give.

The next morning I got to work early because staying in my apartment was driving me crazy. The office was empty except for the cleaning crew. I made coffee then sat at my desk pretending to work while really just watching the elevator doors waiting for Aiden to arrive.

He walked in at seven thirty looking exhausted. His suit was perfect like always but his eyes had dark circles under them. He saw me then walked straight to his office without saying anything. A few minutes later he texted "Come in and close the door."

I got up on shaky legs then walked to his office. He was standing by the window with his back to me.

"How did it go?" I asked after closing the door.

"About as well as expected," he said without turning around. "My father wants you fired."

My heart sank. "Okay."

"I told him no," Aiden said then finally turned to face me. "He did not take it well."

"What did he say?" I asked.

"He said I was being reckless," Aiden said while walking to his desk. "That the rumors are damaging the company reputation. That you are a distraction I cannot afford."

"Maybe he is right," I said quiet.

"He is not right," Aiden said firm. "He just wants control like he always does."

"So what happens now?" I asked.

Aiden sat down in his chair then rubbed his face with both hands. "He threatened to call a board vote of no confidence. If he can convince enough board members that I am unfit to lead they can remove me as CEO."

"He would do that to his own son?" I said shocked.

"He would do anything to maintain control of this company," Aiden said. "I have known that my whole life but I guess I hoped maybe this time would be different."

"I should resign," I said. "Before this gets worse."

"No," Aiden said standing up fast. "That is exactly what he wants. He wants to control who I work with and who I spend time with and every decision I make. I am not giving him that power."

"But if you lose the company because of me," I started to say.

"Then I lose it," Aiden interrupted. "But I am not firing you just because my father demands it. I already told him that."

"What did he say?" I asked.

Aiden looked away. "He said if I do not get rid of you within a week he will cut me off from all family resources. No more access to the family accounts. No more support from his connections. Nothing."

"That is insane," I said.

"That is my father," Aiden said. "He thinks money solves everything. That threatening to take it away will make me fall in line like I always have."

"But you did not fall in line this time," I said.

"No," Aiden said while looking at me. "I did not."

We stood there staring at each other. The air felt heavy between us.

"Why?" I asked. "Why are you risking everything for me?"

He opened his mouth then closed it. Whatever he wanted to say got stuck in his throat. Finally he just shook his head.

"Go back to work Elliot," he said. "We will figure this out."

I left his office more confused than before. Aiden was willing to lose his family money and possibly his company just to keep me around. That had to mean something but I was too scared to think about what.

Aiden's Pov I stood outside Blackwood Tech at seven in the morning and stared up at the building that used to be mine. The sun was just coming up and the glass windows reflected the orange sky and it would have looked beautiful if I did not feel so hollow inside. Security should have stopped me from coming in but when I walked through the doors the guard just nodded. My name was still on the access list because nobody had bothered to remove it yet. That hurt more than it should have because it meant I was still technically part of the company but only as a ghost. I took the elevator up to the executive floor and when the doors opened everything looked the same but felt different. A few early employees were already at their desks and they all stared at me when I walked past. Some of them looked away quickly and others whispered to each other and I knew they were all talking about me. The disgraced CEO who lost everything. I walked toward my old office but stopped when I got close.

Vivian's Pov I got to the café thirty minutes early because I wanted to see who this person was before they saw me. I sat in my car across the street and watched people go in and out and tried to figure out which one sent me that text. My hands shook a little when I gripped the steering wheel and I hated that I was nervous. I had not slept at all last night thinking about the embezzlement investigation and how fast it was moving. The forensic accountants were finding everything and it was only a matter of time before they connected all the dots back to me. I needed help and this mystery person said they could give it to me. At exactly eight o'clock I got out of my car and walked across the street. I wore sunglasses even though the sun was barely up because my eyes were red and tired and I did not want anyone to see that I had been crying. The café was small and quiet with only a few people inside. I looked around and saw a man in a dark suit sitting at a corner table in the back.

  • THE BILLIONAIRE FORBIDDEN ASSISTANT    Chapter 31 : Trying To Help

Elliot's Pov When I got to the door it opened before James could knock and Liam stood there. My older brother looked exactly the same. Tall and broad with the same dark hair as me but his was always perfectly styled. He wore a suit even though it was Saturday and he smiled when he saw me but it did not reach his eyes. "Welcome home little brother," Liam said. "This is not home," I said. "It is now," Liam said and stepped aside so we could come in. I walked past him into the entrance hall and the ceiling was so high it made me feel small. Everything in the house was expensive and old and had been in the family for generations. The floors were marble and the walls had paintings of dead relatives who all looked miserable. I fit right in. "Your room is ready," Liam said. "I had the staff clean it and put fresh sheets on the bed." "I am not staying long," I said. "We will see," Liam said and there was something in his voice that made me want to scream. James took off his coat an

  • THE BILLIONAIRE FORBIDDEN ASSISTANT    Chapter 30: Going Home

Elliot's PovThe car was so quiet I could hear my own breathing and it made everything feel worse. I sat in the back seat with the box of my things on my lap and stared at the divider between me and the driver. My father James sat next to me looking out the window at the city passing by and he had not said anything for twenty minutes. The box was not heavy but my arms ached from holding it. Inside was a coffee mug that said World's Okayest Assistant that Maya had given me as a joke and some pens and a notebook and a small glass paperweight that Aiden had given me after I finished a big project. He said it was for good work but the way he handed it to me made it feel like more than that.I wanted to throw the paperweight out the window."You will stay home now," James said without looking at me. "No more games."My hands tightened on the box and I felt anger start to build in my chest. "I am not playing games," I said."Then what do you call this?" James asked and finally turned to loo

  • THE BILLIONAIRE FORBIDDEN ASSISTANT    Chapter 29: Alone in the Dark

Aiden's Pov I sat in my apartment with all the lights off and the city glowed outside my windows like a million small fires. The glass of whiskey in my hand was warm now because I had been holding it for an hour without taking a single sip. My brain would not stop replaying the moment I fired Elliot. The way his eyes went wide first like he could not believe what I was saying and then how his whole face just collapsed. I did that to him and I did it in front of everyone because I wanted them to see that I was still in control. But I was not in control anymore and maybe I never had been. My phone buzzed on the table and I looked at the screen. Dad was calling again and this was the fifth time tonight. I watched it ring until it went to voicemail and then a minute later it buzzed with a text. "Answer your phone. We need to discuss the transition." I threw the phone across the room and it hit the couch. The transition meant Vivian taking over my company and me having nothing. Dad g

  • THE BILLIONAIRE FORBIDDEN ASSISTANT    Chapter 28: Vivian’s Victory

Vivian's POV I walked into Aiden's office the second he left the building and it felt better than I ever imagined. This office should have been mine years ago when I first started at Blackwood Tech. I ran my hand across his desk which was now my desk. I sat in his chair which was now my chair and looked out his windows at the city view which was now my view. Everything I wanted was finally mine. "Ms Stone?" one of the security guards said from the doorway. "What would you like us to do with Mr Hayes's belongings?" "Box them up and throw them out," I said without turning around. "I don't want any trace of him left in this building." "All of it?" the guard asked. "Every single thing," I said. "Yes ma'am," the guard said then left to follow my orders. I pulled out my phone and called my assistant. "I need you to draft an email to all employees. Effective immediately Elliot Hayes is banned from Blackwood Tech property. If anyone sees him they are to call security and have him rem
