The atmosphere in the dining room became heavier after Sophia arrived.

Amara could feel it immediately.

Even though Sophia was smiling politely, there was something in her gaze that felt sharp and calculating.

It was the kind of look that silently measured someone.

Judged them.

And Amara didn’t like it.

“So,” Sophia said as she slowly walked around the room, observing the mansion like she owned it. “This place hasn’t changed much.”

Alexander leaned back in his chair, his expression calm but distant.

“You didn’t come here to admire the house.”

Sophia smiled slightly.

“You still know me well.”

Amara watched the exchange quietly.

There was history here.

A lot of it.

And somehow she felt like an outsider standing between two people who shared memories she knew nothing about.

Sophia suddenly turned toward her.

“So Amara,” she said smoothly.

“Yes?” Amara replied politely.

“How long have you been married to Alexander?”

Amara folded her arms slightly.

“Not very long.”

Sophia tilted her head.

“That must have been a very sudden wedding.”

“It was,” Amara admitted.

Sophia’s eyes flickered with curiosity.

“Interesting.”

Alexander finally spoke again.

“That’s enough questions.”

Sophia laughed softly.

“Relax, Alex. I’m only trying to get to know your wife.”

She walked closer to the table and leaned lightly against the chair beside him.

“But I have to admit… I was surprised when I heard the news.”

Alexander’s expression hardened.

“I’m sure you were.”

Sophia looked at Amara again.

“You must be very special.”

Amara forced a calm smile.

“I don’t think marriage is always about being special.”

Sophia chuckled.

“Smart answer.”

Alexander stood up suddenly.

“I have a meeting to attend.”

Sophia raised an eyebrow.

“So soon?”

“Yes.”

But before he could walk away, Sophia added casually—

“We should have dinner tonight.”

Alexander stopped.

“I don’t think that’s necessary.”

“Oh come on,” Sophia said lightly.

“It’s been years.”

She looked at Amara again.

“And your wife should join us too.”

Amara blinked.

“Me?”

Sophia nodded.

“It would be nice to get to know each other.”

Alexander looked between them.

His expression clearly showed he disliked the idea.

But Amara suddenly spoke first.

“Sure,” she said calmly.

Both of them turned to look at her.

Sophia smiled.

“Perfect.”

Alexander frowned slightly.

“Are you sure about that?”

Amara shrugged.

“Why not?”

Sophia clapped her hands softly.

“Great. Dinner at seven.”

Then she turned and walked out of the room as if she had just arranged a business meeting.

Once she left, silence filled the space again.

Alexander looked at Amara.

“You didn’t have to agree.”

Amara stood up slowly.

“Why?”

“Because Sophia can be… difficult.”

Amara raised an eyebrow.

“She seems confident.”

“That’s one word for it.”

Amara studied his face carefully.

“Is she your ex?”

Alexander paused.

“That’s not important.”

“That means yes.”

Alexander didn’t respond.

Amara felt a strange tightness in her chest again.

She quickly looked away.

“Well,” she said lightly.

“This dinner should be interesting.”

Alexander stepped closer to her.

“You don’t have to prove anything to her.”

Amara met his gaze.

“I’m not trying to prove anything.”

“Then why agree?”

She hesitated.

Then she admitted quietly—

“Because I want to understand something.”

“What?”

Amara looked straight into his eyes.

“Why she still looks at you like that.”

Alexander’s expression softened slightly.

“And how does she look at me?”

Amara crossed her arms.

“Like she still belongs here.”

Alexander stepped closer.

Too close again.

“You’re the one who lives here,” he said quietly.

Amara’s heart skipped.

“That’s not the same thing.”

Alexander leaned slightly toward her.

“You’re jealous.”

Amara immediately shook her head.

“I’m not.”

“You are.”

“I’m curious, not jealous.”

Alexander chuckled softly.

“That’s a dangerous difference.”

Amara lifted her chin.

“Well, you’ll find out tonight.”

Alexander looked at her for a long moment.

Then he said quietly—

“You might not like what you discover.”

Amara smiled slightly.

“Then maybe you should start explaining now.”

But Alexander simply walked past her.

“Seven o’clock,” he said over his shoulder.

“Don’t be late.”

Amara watched him leave.

Her heart was still beating faster than normal.

And she couldn’t tell if it was because of Alexander…

Or the strange challenge waiting for her tonight.

Either way, one thing was certain.

Dinner with Sophia was not going to be simple.

Six months later. The city looked different from the top floor of Alexander’s office building. Not because the buildings had changed. Not because the streets had moved. But because life itself had shifted in ways Alexander hadn’t expected. The large windows behind his desk overlooked the busy downtown skyline. Cars moved steadily through traffic, people filled the sidewalks, and the constant hum of the city created a rhythm that felt strangely comforting. For the first time in years, Alexander felt… calm. The past six months had been filled with changes.Victor’s trial had become one of the biggest scandals in the business world. The evidence Alexander’s father had hidden all those years ago had finally come to light, exposing the full extent of Victor’s corruption. The company itself had gone through a massive transformation.Corrupt partnerships were removed.New leadership structures were created. For the first time since Alexander had taken control, the company was finally becomin

Cars moved lazily along the street, and people walked along the sidewalks, living their normal lives.Everything looked peaceful.Yet his mind was far from quiet. The events of the previous night replayed again and again in his head.Victor’s arrest. The truth about his father. And the moment on the dock with Amara. He had faced many battles in his life. But nothing had shaken him quite like hearing Victor claim that his father had once been part of everything.Alexander closed his eyes briefly. His father had always been his example of integrity.A man who believed in doing the right thing, even when it was

The waves rolled gently against the wooden pillars beneath the pier, their rhythm steady and calm—so different from the chaos that had just taken place.Behind him, Amara watched quietly. She could tell something was weighing heavily on his mind.Victor’s words. The accusations about his father.Amara walked slowly toward him.“You’ve been quiet for a while.”Alexander didn’t look away from the water.“I’m thinking.”“About Victor?”Alexander nodded.“About my father.”Amara leaned against the railing beside him.“You don’t believe what he said… do you?”Alexander let out a slow breath.“I don’t know what to believe anymore.”The wind blew gently across the harbor, moving strands of Amara’s hair across her face. She brushed them

The sound of police sirens grew louder outside the warehouse. At first, it was faint—like a distant warning carried by the wind from the harbor. But within seconds, the sound became unmistakable.Victor’s calm expression vanished.“You idiot,” he snapped sharply, his glare cutting toward Adrian. “You brought the police?”Adrian looked completely unfazed. He leaned casually against a wooden crate as if they were having a normal conversation.“Relax,” Adrian said lightly. “I thought you liked attention.”Victor’s jaw tightened. His patience had officially run out.“Move,” he barked at the men beside him.Everything erupted at once. One of Victor’s men rushed toward the black folder lying on the ground.Another grabbed Lucas’s chair and dragged it backward across the concrete floor. The chair screeched loudly as Lucas struggled against the ropes tied around his wrists.“Alex!” Lucas shouted desperately.Alexander reacted instantly. He lunged forward, tackling the man reaching for the fol

The sun was already sinking behind the harbor when Alexander’s car turned onto the quiet coastal road.Dark clouds were slowly gathering above the water, and the wind carried the faint smell of salt and rust.Beside him, Amara sat silently, staring ahead through the windshield. Her fingers were tightly clasped together in her lap.The silence between them wasn’t comfortable. It was the kind of silence filled with fear, questions, and unspoken thoughts. Finally, Amara spoke.“You still haven’t told me the full plan.”Alexander kept his eyes on the road.“That’s because the plan depends on Victor.”Amara turned toward him with a skeptical look.“That’s not exactly reassuring.”Alexander gave a faint smile.“Victor is predictable.”“How?”“He always believes he’s the smartest person in the room.”Amara crossed her arms.“That sounds dangerous.”“It is.”The abandoned warehouse finally came into view.It stood near the edge of the harbor, large and silent like a forgotten relic of the pas
