Chapter 10: Unrevealed Warning

Samantha POV…

He rushed forward and slammed the door shut. “Don’t you dare go in there,” he said, blocking the door.

“I told you to stay here and wait for me, not to look around the room.” His eyes were filled with the same confusion, shock, and panic they held the day I asked him why he chose me out of all the girls in the world.

His hands were visibly trembling, and his eyes were bloodshot red with anger. By his side, his fists were clenched tightly, and his irritation shone like the sun.

I couldn’t say a word or move, but my heart rumbled with countless thoughts. What is wrong with him? Why is he being so defensive over a room? What could possibly be in there to make him rush back like this? What could be in there to make him panic so much? I desperately wanted to ask all the questions, but I knew the kind of man I was dealing with.

“Why don’t you listen?” his question yanked me out of my spiral of thoughts.

I looked up at him, still unable to form a sentence. I wasn’t sure what to say or how to react. One wrong word or reaction could send me flying again, and I wasn’t ready to go down that lane.

“Answer me, Samantha… answer me,” his voice was drenched with impatience as the shock and panic in his eyes slowly faded.

I didn’t let him repeat himself, seeing how quickly his impatience was growing and the way he took calculated steps toward me. “I… I am sorry. I shouldn’t have done that,” I said, not meeting his eyes, but his light chuckle forced me to.

He took another calculated step toward me, his hands firmly tucked into his pockets. “Do you enjoy seeing this side of me? Why not just behave yourself so we can live in peace?” I gulped hard, seeing how fast his anger was rising.

“It’s just a simple instruction, Samantha. Behave yourself and we wouldn’t have to go down this path. Is that too much to ask?” I shook my head slowly, my heart releasing silent prayers.

“Do you know what I hate the most?” I nodded calmly as I watched a smile creep onto his lips.

“Tell me, Samantha. What is it that I hate the most?” he drew closer. “And make it snappy.”

I didn’t hesitate before answering. “When your rules are tampered with.” A wider smile crossed his lips.

He clicked his tongue and turned away, his hands still in his pockets. Slowly, he turned back to me, his gaze locking with mine. “Then why do you keep failing? I can’t count the number of times I have warned you.”

I said nothing. My lips were sealed, as if I had suddenly gone mute.

Silence stretched between us for several minutes, but my heart never settled. It raced with every tick of the clock, and for a moment, I thought it would leap out of my chest.

“Samantha,” he finally broke the silence. My heart fluttered with uneasy relief as his voice washed over my eardrums. His silence was far deadlier.

“I don’t want to beat around the bush. Let’s cut to the chase.” I gulped hard. What did he want to say now?

“I don’t care what bad parenting you had before you became an orphan.” His words struck harder than any ill treatment he had ever given me. My cheeks flushed in pain, and my eyes burned red as I struggled to stay calm. I wanted to express my anger, to slap him for speaking so horribly about my late parents, but my fear outweighed my pain. I swallowed it all, pretending it didn’t exist, even though it tore my heart apart.

My emotions begged to spill, but I held them back. I was weak, but this wasn’t the time to show vulnerability.

“Are you listening?” he asked coldly, as if he hadn’t just said something despicable moments ago.

I stared at him for a long moment before nodding calmly, giving him the chance to continue. “You are not allowed into this room for any reason,” he said, pointing at the cobweb-covered door.

I nodded again. I wouldn’t dare even without his warning. His actions alone were enough, though somewhere deep in my heart, I still longed to uncover the truth.

“I will never go into the room,” I assured calmly. Dumbass, why would I? I muttered silently to myself.

“The day you ever dream of going into this room, I swear your head will be rolling on the floor.” There was no hint of a joke in his face, and that only heightened both my fear and curiosity. What could really be in there?

“You can leave now. The family is gone, so take off that thing,” he glanced at my stomach, “and return to your room.”

Relief washed over me. Finally, I was free of his presence.

I didn’t waste any time before scrambling out of his room like a thief on an operation. I didn’t stop until I got to the door of my room.

“Gosh! That deadly man,” the words escaped my lips without permission. It was a fact that my whole being hated that man.

“How dare he command me around like a piece of trash? How much I hate him,” I stomped my feet angrily on the floor as memories of his ill treatment flooded my mind. “What does he even think he is? A GOD?” My hands twisted in provocation.

“I so wish I could strangle him to death.” I touched my throat, feeling the sudden dryness. “I need to get water.” I rubbed my aching throat and made my way to the kitchen.

“Finally!” I took a deep breath as I stood right in front of the kitchen. It took me forever to find it, but I was sure I finally did.

“But Mr. Don’s second wife is way prettier than the first,” the words echoed from inside the kitchen. I stood still. Second wife? What were the maids talking about?

“I felt so sorry for her when I saw her wearing that fake pregnancy bump,” the voices continued.

“Yeah! I seriously do, and I really hope she doesn’t disappear without a trace like his first wife.”

The words exploded in my ears like a metallic bomb. Disappear without a trace? What was going on?

“I know this might be unrelated, but did you notice he stopped letting us into his room after the disappearance of his first wife? That’s quite awkward,” another voice chirped.

“Yes…”

Curiosity got the best of me. I couldn’t let them finish before intruding. “What are you guys talking about?”

Their faces registered pure shock the moment they saw me.
