William drained the entire glass of champagne in a gulp before exiting the crowded living room into the less noisy corridor. On the flight, he was so excited about home but now he was here, the home was beginning to feel more like hell.
He could still hear the murmurings from the other room but he couldn't care less. Despite being a master of wealth, he believed that money wasn't enough reason for one to act like an asshole and that the guest deserved what was coming to him.The door to the living room was forced open and his father barged in. William sensed his rage but refused to be shaken. He made to walk away when Mr. Reeds' thick voice made him halt in his tracks."What was that in there?" Mr. Reeds asked, shutting the door behind him."Why do you ask? Didn't you see how inappropriate he acted?" Williams fired back."And of what concern is that to you? That is a common maid…""I won't stand here and listen to you speak of her like she isn't a human being." Williams paused, surprised that he was defending someone who had insulted him barely an hour ago."Have you lost your mind?" His father yelled."No dad. I think you guys are the crazy ones." Mr. Reeds gasped. "Because I don't see how else you'll claim to throw some sort of welcome party for me when you and I know that this is only a means to gather rich folks and squeeze out their pockets in the name of donations!"William knew his words would have an effect on his father but the part of his statement that had the most effect was hard to tell as his father's gaze lacked emotion. Mr. Reeds simply grabbed a glass of wine from a passing waiter. He motions to Williams and they move into the master bedroom."So how's your fiancée? I hear you two stayed together over in New York?""You heard the wrong father. Stephanie and I haven't shared a bed for months but I think she's alright." He said the last part more to himself. "But anyways, we're breaking up and we'll make it public as soon as possible.""What?!" Mr. Reeds responded in rage. "Why would you do that? Do you know how much that girl loves you? Do you know how such a move could crush her heart?""Well, she should have thought of that before she abandoned me for some Russian millionaire," Williams said scoffing. This angered Mr. Reeds even more. "How dare you try to jeopardize the relationship between this family and Stephanie's parents?""That's all you care about!" Williams threw his hands in the air dramatically. "You don't care if I love her or if she's hurting my feelings. She's just another opportunity for you to add to your wealth."Unable to stand his father's prejudice, Williams scoffed and walked out on his father only to run into a face he had hoped he'd never run into. There staring as Williams closed the door behind him was his older brother; Kelvin. As usual, they shared a cold silent gaze. The two brothers had never gotten along and Williams wasn't surprised that even with all the time he had spent away, there was still no love lost in his brother's heart for him."Who would believe a clown would try to act like a superhero one day?" Kelvin spoke sarcastically."Nice to see the dog finally got off the leash," Williams fired back. "If you don't mind I need to go attend to more important things while you can go kiss your father's ass."Williams overheard his brother murmur incorrigibly but he kept walking on. It was no secret to him that Kelvin always thought him to be more favoured by their father and hence despised him.At least Williams tried his best to make a name for himself while all that Kelvin did was roll up at all types of parties and clubs and squander his monthly allowances when he was not being incompetent at their father's company. How could Mr. Reeds prefer to entrust his fortune to a party bird over a well-educated businessman?Everyone seemed to have been tasked with getting on his nerves but there was one person he knew could bring a smile to his face. It was his sister, Katie. He hadn't seen her since he arrived so he went back to the party in search of her.Unfortunately, his mission was thwarted when family members and familiar faces tossed him across the room, everyone hungry for a piece of how his life was while he was away. He managed to scan through the crowd but when he couldn't find Katie, he sauntered up the stairs to her room. The sound of the door creaking open startled Katie but when she saw the intruder was Williams, she got off the phone and engulfed him in a bear hug. Oh, how she had missed him! At least his being back meant she didn't have to put up with Kelvin's rowdiness all day."You promised to give me a call once you arrived!" Katie nagged, pouting."Sorry. Must have left my phone in my bag." He pointed towards the door. "One of those parties, huh?""I'm more than weary of such parties," Katie complained. "Never have I been in a room with so many fake smiles.""I have an Idea. Perhaps we should go for a picnic or something. I was just reading about this nice place and I think we should get ready. Meet me downstairs in five minutes."With that he was out the door and in a few minutes, he was in his favourite sports car waiting on his sister. As much as he was excited to take the car for a spin, he was overjoyed he could finally get to spend time with his sister. She caught up with him a few minutes later and they drove around town before heading off to some sort of hilltop on the outskirts of town.Since he arrived, that was the first time Williams really felt welcomed home. Not just by the infectious smile on his sister's face but also by the town itself. Nothing seemed to have changed all this while he was away. The record store at the end of the block still blasted jams, the old mall still hadn't sacked its cheery old attendant, and the time had proved to have no effect on the robust and cheerful aura of the town."I bet you missed home so much," Katie said, as they spread out on the trunk of the car, treating themselves to pizza."You bet, I did. I mean, New York is great but home is home.""I guess your girlfriend didn't share the same ideology, did she?" Katie murmured, rolling her eyes."Katie you have every right to hate Steph, no need to hide." He licked the pizza crust off his fingers. "I still can't believe I almost began to believe something would work out for us even after she cheated on me the first time."*I always warned you, Will. That girl always seemed to me as someone who'll run your pocket dry and leave in the long run."She was right and it hurt that she was. Back then he had been veiled by infatuation to notice the dangers lurking in the near future. Not all that glitters is gold was a lesson that he learnt from that experience."I think it's about time we paid a visit to this Steph and taught her a lesson," Katie said, staring into the captivating horizon."Seems like you're ready to be thrown out of the family," Williams scoffed. "Need I remind you that our father doesn't mess with his sources of income? I told him I was breaking up with Steph. You should see the way he freaked out.""Are you really breaking up with her?" Katie asked, concerned."I mean, yeah. She cheated again and this time I think I'm ready to stand up to dad."He was. As it was growing late, they decided to head back but on the way, Williams couldn't stop thinking about what had happened that day. From his father's outburst to his brother's jealousy and even the incident at the party. This was a part of the home he despised. The drama and chaos. But unfortunately, it was the same drama that had brought him back home but in his brief stay, he was determined to stay away from as much as he could. All he had to do was focus on his aim which was to take a break from work a bit as suggested by Katie. He would try as much as possible to abstain from getting in trouble if he could. However, right then, nothing clutched his mind more than the wish to rest his tired bones which he didn't have the chance to ever since his flight. As soon as he cluttered up the stairs leading to the floor of his room, he bumped into someone causing the tray in her hand to knock over but not before he caught her in his arms. When she raised her face, he stared at her in surprise while she looked back in shock and perhaps fear. The way those well-hewn arms made Emily glad she tripped. It was almost as if they were made specifically for her as they fitted her securely yet conveniently only sparing the empty tray which landed on the tiled floor with a loud clang. But something about those arms gave her a nostalgic feeling. She could tell she'd been in this haven before but when that happened was a matter of question. To satisfy her curiosity, she looked up at her saviour only for her smile to be replaced by a look of horror as she met the dark green eyes of Williams. "I'm sorry, sir," she quickly apologized, hoping he had forgotten the earlier incident when she had ruined his tux with cake. She attempted to wiggle out of his grasp but his firm arms kept her in place. "Amazing how people change in a matter of hours, isn't it?" Williams whispered, helping her to her feet. Instincts warned her to remain quiet despite the words already knocking on her lips. Avoiding his scrutinizing gaze, she grabbed the tray a
It has just been 5 hours since Emily was appointed as William's personal maid and life had never been more difficult. She does not understand why and how someone could be that cruel. She was heading towards the kitchen the 7th time to bake cookies for him-cookies she was sure he did not need or want. She walked slowly, tired and frustrated."Hey," A musical female voice called to her.Emily turned to see Katie, William's younger sister smiling at her."Hi," she replied, forcing a smile with all the strength she could muster."You are Emily, right? Will's PM yeah?""PM as in personal maid?" Emily asked.Katie giggled. "Yeah, sorry, It sounds disrespectful to call people maids. I hope that makes sense?" Katie asked, a little shy.Emily was starting to like the blonde girl that stood before her. "It makes a lot of sense." She answered with a smile."Sorry about my brother," Katie said, twisting her fingers nervously. "He is not usually like this, he took a special dislike to you.""Yeah,
William stared at the pile of laundry he had gathered. He was being cruel, too cruel, but it was hardly his fault if only she had apologised the other day he would not be here thinking of ways to frustrate her life. He felt stupid playing these games, it was not like him, he was always the good one, the calm one but he had never been lenient with anyone who had stepped on his ego and she will not be an exception."Yes Sir,"Emily announced her presence in the room."Laundry."He muttered, pointing at the pile of clothes on the floor.Emily excused herself and came back with a basket, she picked all the clothes and left without a word.Willam had to admit he likes her–not that he liked her but he enjoys the fact that she did not worship him as the other maids do. It made all his evil plans more effective. He had planned more heartless things but Katie took a liking to her, hence his resistance to getting a snake as a pet and making her take care of it.He scoffed and frowned. He hated be
2 weeks into being Willaim's Personal maid felt like an eternity in hell.He had kept true to his word in making her life miserable. He had stopped making her do unnecessary jobs for Katies's sake but he was still hostile toward her. She knew she did not make things any easier since filling simple instructions were particularly hardest for her to obey. Just like this morning she had added lots of sugar in his coffee even after he had told her several times to never put sugar in his coffees or tea she had only thought he would make her drink it since it was his newest way of torturing her."I am trying to treat you like a normal human being but you do not want that."he had told her before he left the house that morning with Katie.Venting to Sarah had done her no good at all. All the maids blame her for being rude to him at his welcome party."You cannot treat people like that, even if you do not know them!"Was what they always tell her.The only advantage she could see was the improve
That night Emily dreamt of William, she had decided to use the maid section in the Mansion for the first time that day since William had made her work till it was late. She woke up early and was ready to work as early as 7:30 in the morning. The house was still quiet meaning they were still asleep so she decided to visit her friend Sarah. She tipped toed to Sarah's room and knocked, Sarah whined when she opened the door and saw it was Emily."Do you not know what time it is?" She grumbled as she let Emily in."I don't, but I do believe it is past sleeping hours. Emily replied, shoving herself into the old faded sofa close to the door of Sarah's room."Well, do well to hold your peace till I am fully awake," Sarah mumbled and threw herself back into bed.Emily smiled as her friend's snoring filled the room. Sarah's friend had been extra tired since she was doing most of the general work while She was busy serving only Williams. She decided to go through social media for a while. She du
"Emily, it is time."Emily looked at Sarah and nodded. She had spent the whole day crying when William asked her to rest, she did listen. She went to her room and slept. She didn't feel the need to cry nor did she have the strength anymore. She figured if she cried or didn't cry it would not change any of the Reeds' minds. Nobody would believe she was innocent, either way she would still lose her job so it was better to face her problems like a big girl. She and Sarah made their way to the already filled living room. The whole maids had been invited to see her fail. "Classy." She mumbled to herself.Marcus had told her he had places and things to do so she did not expect to see him there. She was only disappointed not to see Katie there. She hadn't have the time to talk to her friend yet. She made a mental note to find Katie to tell her she did not steal from her father, she would say her truths even if Katie would not believe her.Kelvin, who had been impatiently waiting for the mome
The room was getting tense, too tense.Sarah was smiling widely as Katie proved Emily innocent. The maids and security were whispering again but this time their stares were apologetic toward Emily. They saved the cold stares for Grace and Kelvin who had shrunk into a couch embarrassment and anger switching in his eyes. Grace looked like she was going to cry or if given the chance, strangle both Emily and Katie to death.Mrs. Reeds was enraged, not only because she had been lied to, but also because her trust had been broken. She knew her son was insolent and sneaky but she also knew of his bizarre obsession with women, but she had never imagined he would place such allegations on anyone. She was more pised about the part Grace played. The level of trust she had for Grace was more than that she had had for any maid. Grace had served her since she was a teenager and she had never had any reason to doubt her."Mum, I hope I have convinced you…"Mrs. Reeds glanced at Emily and looked back
William sat in his office paying special attention while his secretary briefed him on the forthcoming projectThe company is considering developing new tech gadgets, and they needed somebody to be in charge of it.He almost backed off when he heard that Kelvin was interested. The project was opened for all senior staff in the company, but most of them had chickened out after Mr. Reeds and his father set a target– a very high target.Kelvin threatened the remaining few who were still up for the challenge, hence it remained Just him and Kelvin. He was as early as he knew he would be. The chairs in the conference room, here are arranged like that of a big family dining table. With nine chairs on the right, nine chairs on the left, and then a chair each at the front and back part of the long desk. It was his father's idea for the conference room to be arranged like anything either William or himself would be joining the meeting and on days like this, he would want him to sit opposite hi
