"Believe me, princess, she's nothing but an opportunist golddigger! You can't see it because she's so good at her games." Rhoda lectured.
"I have told you times and again that you need to send that girl far away from you! But no, you wouldn't listen and now even your father thinks she is an angel!"
Ruth sighed and combed through her hair with her fingernails.
"Mum, you're just paranoid. Christine is not that type of person," Ruth defended Christine as she passed an apologetic smile to Christine who smiled in return before exiting the room.
She didn't want to imagine what Mrs. Davis could be telling her daughter on the other end of the phone. She was used to the woman's harsh behavior but she preferred not listening to all of that at all.
"Tell me, do you really love him?" Rhoda asked her daughter. Knowing the kind of child she had, she knew Ruth couldn't love such a daddy's boy but she had to somehow convince Ruth to do it anyway.
"Mum... Alex is so boring, I won't even lie about that. But the money is good and he is cute. So yeah, I love him!" She giggled.
Christine shook her head as her friend's response echoed in the room. She found herself slowly heading to the kitchen to try and tune out the mother-and-daughter conversation.
Just a few weeks ago, Ruth was fantasizing about Alex Pencraft and now she was bored of him.
Somehow Christine felt bad for Alex Pencraft because he was about to get married to a girl who had no feelings for him while he was head over heels for her. To make it worse, she was pushing him to do it.
But what could she do?
Alexander Pencraft was a good guy. He deserved to be with someone like Ruth. Their match would've been perfect.
He was so gentle and caring, he was every girl's ideal dream man; rich, romantic, sexy, charming, and down to earth.
Christine couldn't help but smile as the memories of their first date flashed through her mind. He was truly a gentleman and Ruth was so lucky.
Yet she didn't realize it.
Christine sat on the kitchen counter replaying her date with Alex. He was in every sense a perfect gentleman.
She had never been a fan girl for any man at all but there was something about Alexander that just gave off the promises of a better life.
Ruth rounded up the call with her mum and excitedly skipped to the kitchen, to catch up with Christine. She still hadn't told her everything that happened on that date.
As Ruth got to the kitchen, she couldn't believe her eyes. Christine was smiling to herself which was a really rare sight.
To top it to the brim, She was twirling her dark-loosed locks with her index finger, giggling even!?
Ruth was stunned. She wondered who made an empty-hearted Christine blush at his thoughts.
Surely it had to be a man. No woman smiled so much about another woman.
But Ruth shook her head as she canceled out that possibility. Christine was a strange woman.
She had known her long enough to know she could smile about the worst things.
It was best she just asked her, rather than stand there and guess.
Ruth sighed and snapped her fingers in front of a spell bound Christine.
Like a spell antidote, Christine jumped out of her fantasy to meet Ruth's intense gaze.
Her cheeks heated up as she suddenly felt ashamed of herself. She had been caught thinking about Alexander and that was wrong.
Christine hopped off the kitchen counter and picked an apple from the fruit basket on the kitchen slab and munched noisily on it just to create a distraction and hide her unease.
"So... who's he?" Ruth threw the dreaded question at Christine like a bombshell.
"Huh?" Christine tried to play dumb but Ruth wasn't buying it and pressed on with her questions.
"Tell me Christine, are you by any chance lusting after a man!?" Ruth demanded. She wiggled her brows and played the bad cop role.
"A man? What man?" Christine asked as her fingers started shaking.
Ruth wouldn't mind but Christine couldn't bring herself to say it.
Ruth narrowed her eyes on her friend as she suddenly remembered that Christine had been on a date with Alex which was technically her first date with any man at all.
"Wait... Were you thinking about Alex Pencraft?" She asked with dwindled eyes.
Christine felt her heart jump off her chest and she dropped the apple she had been holding.
This was the moment she dreaded. She couldn't tell Ruth what she had been thinking of. It might create problems and she didn't want that.
"What the hell Ruth? Why would you ever say something like that? You and I know how much Peter is committed to marrying you." Christine rebuked Ruth with a stern look on her face.
"I was just kidding babe. You don't have the guts to even get disciplined talk more than snatching my man." Ruth remarked chuckling and placed her hands on Christine's shoulder.
"Oh my God Christine, I can't believe you could hyperventilate by a simple prank," Ruth screamed when she felt the way Christine's heart raced.
"Yeah right!" Christine hissed as she walked out of the kitchen. She needed to be anywhere as long as it was away from Ruth.
She hated the fact that she had just lied to her best friend. The one person who accepted her for who she was —A nobody.
"Babe, come on. It was just a joke!" Ruth called after her but Christine refused to wait.
Ruth shrugged her shoulders as she went to pick the apple Christine had barely touched and ate it.
She was still enjoying her apple when her phone rang out.
The blaring sound jolted Ruth to her senses and she quickly swiped the answer button with a blush after confirming the caller.
"Hi baby," she said as her smile got wider.
"I miss you a lot, Ruthie," the husky voice said from the other end.
"I miss you too..."
"Just what I wanted to hear... Are you free?"
"Yes, I'm totally free next weekend," Ruth rushed to say. Her body already ached to be by his side just by hearing his voice.
"I mean right now, love," he clarified and Ruth blushed as she felt heat pass through her core.
"Right now?" She asked in almost a moan.
"Yeah... Now Ruthie..." His voice sent shivers to her core and the anticipation was starting to kill her.
"I will meet you in ten!" She blurted out.
Ruth ended the call with a giggle and ran back to her room to get changed. She wouldn't miss an opportunity to have Micheal's cock buried deep inside of her!
Never in a lifetime.
She got into a tight mini-dress and snatched off her car keys from the desk and headed for the door.
"Woah!" Christine cried out as Ruth almost pushed her off the porch.
"I am sorry babe. I have to go!" She yelled as she half ran past Christine outside the house.
"Where are you going in such a hurry? Did something happen?" Christine asked.
She was concerned for her friend. When she left the house, Ruth was in the kitchen. Did something happen? It hadn't even been ten minutes yet.
"It's nothing. I just need to catch up with Michael!" She yelled as she got into the car and started the engine.
Christine felt her heart drop —Ruth wasn't seriously doing this, was she?
"What?" Christine half yelled. "Did you even take a shower?!"
"I will explain when I return. Bye!" She blew her best friend a kiss and skidded out of the compound with her car.
As the car got to the road she pulled her hair down and let it rest on her right shoulder. It was true she hadn't even taken her bath, but Michael would take care of that.
Her core tightened painfully as she drove as fast as she could.
In less than thirty minutes she was parked in his apartment. She got down and waltzed her way to the elevator.
The doorman nodded at her as he knew her from her many visits to the place.
Ruth got inside the elevator and clicked on the level she intended to reach and then she waited with a racing heart.
"Look who ran to daddy..." Michael's low voice whispered as soon as the elevator opened.
Ruth didn't wait for an invitation before she clung to him and crashed her lips against his.
They fought for dominance as their lips overlapped one another right there in the corridor. Neither of them was bothered about the security camera right above them.
If anything was to leak, Ruth's mother would sort it out.
Michael expertly led her to his apartment and unlocked the door while still kissing her.
Her dress was long gone by the time the door opened. It was indeed going to be a long day.
In the cold bustling streets of the city, Christine walked along the pedestrian bridge with her hands deep inside her fur coat pockets. It was a Thursday and she was heading back home. She needed to catch her bus.Working for the Davies was as hard as she could have imagined but the experience was one she would have never gotten without their help. She was grooming herself in her career and that was all that mattered.Christine was thinking about the presentation she had to do the next day when her eyes fell on a family of three across the street."Honey, your daughter is being naughty again," the woman told her husband, pointing to their daughter who giggled around with her doll. The man looked at his wife and Christine could see the love he had for her flash in his orbs. Her heart tightened painfully as she knew she had missed out on this sort of affection and maybe she would never even experience it.Her father never loved her and not her mom. That curse was probably passed on to h
"So tell me, how come you know so much about colognes?" Alex asked her.Their conversation had slowly but certainly shifted from Ruth to Christine. She found herself telling him about her love for perfumes and colognes."When you can't afford something, you stay content with recognizing them," Christine said with a small laugh. The interior of the restaurant was vintage. The furniture was sleek metal and neatly arranged with round sleek tables complimenting the wooden floors. The lighting gave out a comfy and cozy feeling as they were artistic lamps hung at different angles of the stylish European retro-style wallpaper on the walls. The atmosphere was welcoming, as expected of a nice restaurant. The ambiance was quite peaceful, with comfortable seating, chill music, and the delicious smell of food in the air.Christen was about to make a comment on Alex's question when a waiter gregariously bounced towards their table."
“I tried to wake her up but she wouldn’t budge. The poor girl must have been so tired to fall asleep that fast. Is she your friend?” The caretaker asked, handing over a big folded blanket to Alex.He took them from her and answered with a smile. “Yes, she is my friend. Thank you, Mirabel, I’ll take it from here, you can go back to my dad.”“Of course.” She flashed him a warm smile and headed the way he came. From the stairs, he could see Christine’s petite figure curled up on the couch. He couldn’t help but smile as he moved closer. She must have been very tired, but still, she had dinner with him and even followed him to see his father. He stood over her and whispered her name, unsure whether to wake her to go sleep in one of the rooms or leave her be. When she didn’t answer after a few taps, he covered her with the blanket and slowly crouched beside her in an attempt to remove the curly locks that had fallen over her face. With him face to face with her, he could hardly displace th
They both sat in the car, waiting for the bus. Chris had wanted to leave but Alex stopped her, telling her to wait till the bus arrived. So while they both waited, an air of awkwardness filled the car. Neither was saying anything. They both had nothing to say to each other. Both had a lot on their heads but nothing in their mouths so they sat there, each sorting the mass of confusion in their minds.Christine sat, turning her face to the open window. The night breeze and wind from each passing car seemed to help her ease down. She looked at the stars in the dark hue of the sky and cursed her sympathy for offering to go with Alex to his house. She cursed herself for sleeping off in his house. Ruth had been frequenting his house lately, what if she had found her there? What would Ruth have felt? Ruth was her only friend, the one that had helped her out of a rough situation. Even if Ruth was being the worst girlfriend, Christine could not do anything to hurt her.Alex on the driver’s
Christine saw the house lights on and knew Ruth was around before she even got inside. She dropped her bag and collapsed on the couch in a heap. Ruth who had seen her come in jumped to her side excitedly.“He wants us to go on a date tomorrow. Oh my God! I am so excited!” she screeched so loud Christine couldn't help but roll her eyes in irritation."I think he wants to propose! Oh my gosh! What will I wear?!" Ruth went on and Christine couldn't hold back anymore.“Just two weeks ago, you were complaining about how he was moving too fast and now you’re this excited?” Christine asked without a hint of enthusiasm.“I will grow to love him. I don’t care about how fast he’s moving,” Ruth replied and relaxed on the couch with a smile on her face.Christine observed her for a few seconds before she let out a sigh and rested her head on Ruth's shoulders “I see you’ve talked with your mum," Christine whispered “How’d you know?” Ruth mumbled with a small giggle.“You always turn out calm af
“Yes. Bye.” Ruth turned to Chris who was staring at her intently. “What?”It was a Monday morning and Christine who still had time on her hands watched as Ruth talked on the phone to Alex. She seemed to like him and that pleased Christine a lot.“I was hoping you’d leave the house today. No shopping or dates today?” Christine asked, taunting her friend.“Actually, today’s the day I get to meet Peter Pencraft.” Ruth smiled, jumping off the bed to the dressing table to get a curler for her hair.“Alex’s dad?” Christine asked“Yes,” Ruth replied humming her favorite song.“That’s nice. I was hoping you’d go out so–““So you can invite a guy, isn’t it?” Ruth mocked“Aha, as if I ever will,”“You need to get a guy though. If you continue this way, you’ll end up an old unmarried woman with cats.”“That doesn’t sound so bad.”Ruth turned to Christine in fake horror. “Do not say that girl, that’s a tough life to live.”“Thank you for your concern, I’m off to work,” Christine said and picked u
Soon after they had finished eating, Alex and Mr. Richard went together to have a business talk —as Mr. Richard called it, but Ruth knew her father was going with Alex to talk about the marriage plans. He also was as desperate as her mother when it came to Alex. He was eager to see both of them get married and Ruth knew it was just so he could make a name for himself in his industry. Pencraft's company and her father's company were in the same industry, making them a competition. The world knew R&D stood nowhere near The Pencrafts both in worth and in popularity. While The Pencrafts had their A-game on, scoring the top position amongst businesses in the same industry, R&D was barely keeping their third spot, constantly shuffling with the fourth spot. So this marriage was a big deal to the entire family."Snap out of whatever you are thinking of and follow me to my room," Rhoda ordered, leading the way to her room.Ruth got to her mother's room and plopped on the couch in the sittin
"Yesterday we kissed and I got so turned on." Ruth smiled at her reflection on her phone before turning to her friend's bewildered face."With the way, you guys are going, you'll get proposed to soon," Christine commented, spilling some popcorn from the bowl in her hand as she bounced on the couch."That would be nice, at least this courting stage will be over," Ruth replied, picking the remote to change the channel."Are you that eager to marry him?" Christine asked, "It is fun to watch you guys, just last month you were complaining about how fast he was going and now you're so eager to marry him, that's cute.""I cannot help but think of Michael," Ruth said blatantly."Are you crazy!""Stupidly horny, yes." Ruth smiled. She knew her thoughts were crazy, but she couldn't hold it."I thought you'd changed.""It's not my fault he wants to kiss me and make me look at the stars for hours, calling it bliss. He got me flustered and had me watch the stars, he didn't even get the memo when I
