CHAPTER 3 MY BEST FRIEND

“Thank you for today Sarah”. Ruth said to Sarah as they stormed into her room,Ruth could barely talk but she forced herself and thanked Sarah, showing how grateful she was.

She sat on the bed and watched sarah as she tidied up her room,her face etched with gratitude.

“Don't leave the house till you get better,I can get a doctor for you if you mind”. Sarah said to Ruth as she sat gently beside her.

“You don't have to,I will be fine on my own”. Ruth sighed and assured her best friend who hissed in response.

“You will always say you are!”. Sarah blurted out and scoffed.

“You…..”. Ruth was interrupted when there was a sudden knock on her door.

They averted their gaze to the door and wondered who could have come knocking on door.

“Come in”. They said in unison and the door swung open.

“Hey”. Rita said as she walked into Ruth's room,she reached for the couch and sat on it.

Ruth ignored her and caressed her cheeks gently, trying to ease the pain her father has inflicted on her.

“I'm here to inform you that you'll be on a house arrest till dad decides”. Rita said nonchalantly as a placating smirked Played on her lips.

“You won't tell me what to do!”. Ruth replied sarcastically,her hand still on her cheeks.

“Your dad said that?”. Sarah asked as her eyes widened in shock.

Sarah is the daughter of Lawrence,they had been friends with the Logan's for a very long time.Lawrence family has a great preference for daughters,so Sarah was loved at home,she isn't the kind of person they could lay their hands on or disrespects.

“Yes!. It's my father's orders and I won't say otherwise”. Rita replied,her voice cold and distant.

Ruth knows that Rita won't come to her room to relay a false message to her,she concured within her that Rita isn't lying,her father could possibly do something more worse than that.

“Ruth how could you decided to wreck our family's reputation by sleeping with a stranger!, have you forgotten that you're to marry Matthew”. Rita scowled Ruth.

“You and I knows that my marriage with Matthew would never be a successful one!. You've dated Matthew for years,why did you suddenly Change your mind?”. Ruth snarled,Rita arched a surprise brows at Ruth as her a devilish smile played on her lips.

“You wants to marry my brother?”. Sarah asked Ruth perplexed.Ruth shook her head negatively and hissed.

“I won't Sarah,we all know that Rita's relationship with Matthew has always been a successful and perfect one!. So why would I marry him in her stand?!. Why!”. Ruth replied,as she fight the threatening tears in her eyes.

“Is that why you decided to sleep with a stranger?. A tactics to reject your planned marriage?”. Rita asked in confusion as her veins bulged in anger,she could barely hold it in.

“I will never marry Matthew!!. Perhaps I couldn't fathom how I got drunk.The only thing I remembered was that you kept on pouring me drinks till when I couldn't stand on my feet, how the fuck did I end up on a stranger's bed when I could barely stand on my own!!”. Ruth asked and the tears she has been holding in escaped her eyes.

“Are you accusing me now?”. Rita asked widening her eyes in shock.

“Who knows!!”. Ruth replied and swallowed hard Sarah tapped her frantically on her, signaling her to be quiet.

“Prove it then!!”. Rita yelled and stand on her feet,

“If you have an evidence that I was to be blamed for your misfortune then dont hesitate to prove it and stop rantling nonsense!”.Rita said furiously,she couldn't to exchange words with her anymore because she might end up doing something she shouldn't have done.

She was in favor of her parents so nobody would put the blame on her even if she does.

She walked majestically to the door and exited the room, slamming the door shut.

“I will have to leave now. I haven't seen my family for a while now,I guess they must be worried about me, don't forget to call me if you any complications anywhere”. Sarah said to Ruth,as a faint smile appeared on her lips.

Ruth has been one of the most important person in her life's, loosing her is what she couldn't afford to stand.

“You've done enough,I don't think i will”. Ruth replied,her voice etched with gratitude.

“I'm here for you my darling, anytime any day.I won't ask you about the stranger you slept with,I will keep it for another day.Till them brace up!”. Sarah said and placed a quick peck on Ruth's forehead.

“We are cool”. Ruth replied and smiled brashly.

Sarah exited the room and Ruth slumped on the bed, thinking how her life has been messed up within twenty four hours.

The virginity she has been preserving for her future husband has been taken away by a total stranger!.

Tears streamed down her cheeks,she hurriedly grabbed the pillows and buried her head in it, She wailed loudly til she felt her breathe was getting haggard.

She quickly bolt up from the bed and gasped for air,her mind struck on her supposed marriage with Matthew,she couldn't imagine herself getting married to someone she didn't a an ounce of feelings for her.

She felt her world crashing down before her, Logan's couldn't allow the relationship they had built with Lawrence to get sour, because of Rita's rejection to their son’s married.They had to use Ruth as an alternative, perhaps they were identical and one could barely differentiate them.

“I'm doomed!.I literally messed up,I shouldn't have….. gone to the party!”. She wailed and tossed around the bed,her room was spinning around her and she couldn't do anything to stop.

Her cell phone beeped and she reluctantly grabbed it from the phone stand,she realized Sarah sent an SMS to her,which made her to smile sadly.

“You will be fine!.I'm home now!!. Don't forget to call me if there's anything I could help you with”.

Ruth clutched her phone to her chest as she wept bitterly in silence,Sarah has been the only person by her side,the only person who couldn't get tired of her despite her numerous mistakes, someone she could confide in.

She remembered her ruthless father,her callous mother and her ungrateful twin sister,her spirit got dispirited.

She still has a weird feeling that something went wrong on the night of their twentieth birthday,but she has no evidence to prove it and nobody would believe her either.

She sighed in exasperation and placed her cell phone on the bed,she walked towards the bathroom absentmindedly to have a quick shower.

She washed her face thoroughly trying to get rid of the stupid tears that kept falling from her eyes,but her heavy heart couldn't let her.

She felt disoriented and betrayed,she wished she could end it all or at leave Logan's premises,but she couldn't.Het House arrest will be forfeited only when her father decides.

“I will be fine”.she muttered to her self in a teary tone and inhaled deeply.

The shower caseded all over her body as she run her hands over her hair,she reached out for a body towel and dried off her wet body.

With her bathingrobe tied across her chest,she slumped on the bed and zoomed off to the dreamland.
