Roman’s pov***
She thought it was Levi’s office. I scoffed internally but found myself unable to take my eyes off her blouse.
“You are in the wrong office,” I blurted out, the words slipping from my lips before I could stop them. It was stupid and out of character for me, but for some reason, I couldn’t help it.
“Thank you", she replied, "could you point me to his office?” she asked, walking closer to me this time. My goodness, she was pretty, like a sculpted work of art.
“Victoria will guide you,” I informed her, and quickly walked past her as I felt a certain surge of unease. I couldn’t believe how thrown off I was at the presence of a mere woman. Victoria was going to go in for it.
How could she have let her get past into my office?
Just as she was about to leave, Levi walked in, both of them bumping into each other.
“Oh hello,” I heard him say, as he spoke, his eyes seemed to be talking as well. I found it very annoying.
“Hi,” she replied, her voice soft and almost timid, like a shy cat. “I was just about to find you, for the finalization of the legal works,” she continued, this time her voice became fluid and confident.
“I'll come find you, sweetheart,” I scoffed as Levi responded. And she walked out.
“What do you want, Levi?” I asked him with irritation in my tone, as he wouldn’t stop staring at her even as she left.
“Nothing, I came to see if you had come in, or if I needed to drive over to your place to get you,” he responded nonchalantly as he walked towards me.
“I'm here,” I said flatly, trying to mask how I felt.
“Do you see her? She's mine,” he said in a rather stern manner. “I'll check in later, I've got some legal documents to sign,” he laughed and walked away.
As the door clicked shut behind him, my mind was consumed with thoughts of her. Something about the way her blouse clung to her body was rather appealing. I noticed the buttons; was she testing me? I asked myself
Her chest glowed like the sun and her face… her face...
“Victoria!!” I thundered.
I needed to distract myself from the thought of the new PR specialist. She came running in, her expression a mix of confusion and fear as usual.
I looked at her, she was nothing like the new PR specialist. She wore stupid glasses with her hair thrown up in an unkept manner, one would think she was a slave.
But Sera, Sera Quinn was the opposite. She carried herself with a distinct air of confidence and smartness. Something about Levi wanting her didn’t sit well with me either.
“When did you begin allowing strangers into my office?” I asked her with disdain
“So sorry, sir, I didn’t realize when she…”
“Is that what I pay you for?” I snapped at her. She was quiet, I could easily feel the tension in my office.
“Get out,” I ordered, directing my attention to the stack of paperwork on my desk.
“Sir, excuse me, sir...” she went again, her voice trembling.
“What?” I asked impatiently.
“There has been a change in the 3 pm meeting, it has been rescheduled to 5 pm,” she said, still in fear.
“What do you mean?” I remember scheduling the meeting with the unit head for 3, and this was my company; no one dared to change what I decided without my consent.
“Miss Sera Quinn needed time to prepare before joining the meeting,” she told me. I raised my head in range, and without talking, I picked up my suit and headed for her office,
No one, no one dared me. As I walked the hallway, I could feel the weight of everyone's gaze on me, but it didn’t matter; she had no right to, not without my permission.
I pushed the door open, and I could see her jolt from her seat, but she didn’t stand, instead, she quickly regained her composure. Her blouse is still unbuttoned.
“How dare you?” I asked, and she looked at me as if she were clueless.
This was a first; any other person would stand up and tremble with apology, but it made me lost for a moment. Nothing could have prepared me for that moment. I looked at the woman in front of me.
“Who the hell are you?” I asked in my mind in bewilderment.
“You do not, do not disrupt my schedule, ever,” I stressed with my finger pointing at her. I needed to make sure she understood the gravity of my words.
“The meeting,” she simply said, nodding, “I cleared it with Levi. If anything, you should take it up with him,” she said rather calmly. It caught me off guard again. She referred to him as Levi by his first name. Something in the way she called his name reminded me of Zara, but I waved it off.
It was true that they spoke a little alike, but Sera had an accent that stood out that Zara did not.
“Next time, you take it up with me,” I said and walked out. I was mad, not because she bypassed me and went to Levi, but because of the manner in which she spoke with such audacity as though it was nothing.
Zara’s pov***
As predicted, I watched him walk from his office to mine. Pretending to be startled by his outburst, I jolted slightly and retained my posture. I watched his gaze shift again from my blouse to my face, his face boiling from unmistakable rage.
The same commanding tone he used when he chased me out of his company three years ago, the circle was repeating. Confident women dared obsessively control men, Miss Sylvia had always said, and that was my game plan.
I watched him shuffle between emotions for every answer I gave. And finally, he stormed out. If only he knew who I was, I thought.
Just then, Tania walked into the office.
“Hey, I heard what happened, just in case next time, do not cross the boss, they don’t call him ruthless for nothing.” She offered, and I smiled at her, not saying anything. Getting close to her was going to make things worse, and I wasn’t ready to risk it just yet.
“The unit head will be having lunch today at the restaurant nearby, would you care to join?” she asked. I wondered why she was so on my case. Did she feel threatened by my beauty, or perhaps by the fact that Levi was drawn to me?
3 years ago, she had told me about a tingling crush for Levi, but we were mere assistants, and we could only hope. It also made me wonder why Levi seemed to be taken by me now, when in the past, he wouldn’t look at a woman twice before concluding women were trash.
I needed to tread carefully, yet an opportunity presented itself., I make Roman fall for me by making him jealous of my relationship with Levi.
“Oh no, Levi already asked me to join him for lunch,” I told her while trying to focus on work.
“Levi asked you, but Levi only goes to lunch with Roman,” she queried
“Well, I suppose I'll be joining them too,” I told her, hoping it would dismiss her
“All alright then,” she conceded, and she walked away. I could see how disappointed she was knowing I was going on a lunch date with Levi. I felt bad for her as my friend, but I didn’t want to consider that if I needed my plan to work.
Tania’s pov***
I couldn't believe the new girl was taking my spot. I should be having lunch with Roman, not her. Ever since Roman and I started dating, he had never offered to meet in public, which only deepened my frustration.
I knew it wasn’t he asking her for lunch because, surprisingly, she had gone on his bad book even on the first day, but I couldn't help but feel jealous.
I wondered what Levi saw in her that made him attracted to her.
Yes, she was beautiful, but Levi didn’t see any woman as beautiful
“Why now?” I asked myself. I knew I had to make a plan to be closer to Roman now. And I found a way to do so. I would use Sera Quinn, I told myself.
“Find out where Roman and Levi would be having lunch today,” I told my secretary.
The game had just begun, and a smug smile crept across my lips as I plotted my next move.
Roman’s POV***Levi and I exchanged a glance as muffled laughter trickled out from my dad’s room. A wave of surprise washed over both of us; it was rare, almost unheard of, to hear my dad laugh in the years I had come to know him.As I stepped inside, my breath caught at the sight of Sera Quinn, her laughter ringing out as she conversed with Dad. “What is she doing here?” slipped from my lips, laden with confusion. To anyone else, I might have sounded angry, but beneath it all, I was grappling with the complexity of my thoughts, and her unexpected presence stirred a whirlwind of emotions.“Hello, Sir Roman,” Sera greeted, her tone almost too cheery. “I was just going over some plans with Mr. Lucien, he’s quite charming, by the way, about how we can reduce media gossip.” She spoke as if her presence was the most natural thing in the world.I couldn’t wrap my head around the change in her. She seemed completely transformed, back to the professional Sera I knew from the office.I studied
Roman’s pov***“Roman!” ….. Tania practically screamed, jolting me back to reality. What was she doing here? That was my first thought as a wave of confusion washed over me.Before I could gather my thoughts, she walked away, she turned and walked away, leaving an uneasy silence hanging in the air between Sera and me.My thoughts went back to the moment, the tension thick as I tried to grasp how it had all spiraled.“What is wrong with me?” I wondered, as I watched her turn her back, mirroring my silent treatment.Suddenly, as if regaining her composure, she spoke, “Excuse me, sir Roman,” her tone clipped, and then she was gone.I stood up thinking about everything. It must be because of the pressure from my dad that I tried to assure myself.“Levi,” he popped into my thoughts. "How could I have almost done this to him?" Just then, he walked in as if timing me.“Hey, man. I've been searching everywhere for you.” He spoke as though he’d just sprinted a marathon, breathless and a littl
Tania’s pov***I had tried calling Roman repeatedly, but he wouldn’t pick up. The thought of visiting the hospital terrified me—what if he took out his frustrations on me for being there?Even Levi wouldn’t pick up his call. And there was Sera, claiming she had PR duties at the hospital. I didn’t buy her excuse one bit. Everything she did, she seemed to be a step ahead of me.I couldn't help but wonder if she had apologized for yesterday's outburst. When we arrived at the hospital, I spotted Levi outside talking to the press.Sera waved him over.“Why didn't you tell me this was happening?” she asked him like they had been friends for ages.He replied, “You already have a lot on your plate, I didn’t want to add to it, and besides, I didn’t think Roman would want to see you.” I couldn't suppress my smirk. She deserved that.“This is my job," she asserted, "it doesn’t matter, it's all over the news, they say it’s a heart attack,” she said without hesitation. The audacity! I couldn't dare
Roman’s pov***As I mentioned earlier, the day couldn’t get any worse. Now I was en route to visit the man whom I called my dad, but who had seldom been there for me.Over the years, it became easier to cope with his absence, but it could never really erase the anger I felt for him. I resented him for pushing my mum away, I resented him for not taking up his duties as my father. I resented him for not telling me the real reason behind my mother's abandonment.Still, somewhere within me, I knew he was ultimately the cause of my turmoil.“He’s going to be alright,” Levi said, reassuring me. He was in the car with me, rarely leaving my side. We had become close since college. our friendship had sparked at the bar, I didn’t know he was studying law, he was carefree for someone in such a serious profession.Over time, I saw him reading these law books, and it made me laugh at the contrast. I was grateful he was always there.“I know so,” I replied, “I wish he’d just go anyway.” The thought
Zara’s povThe meeting ended rather abruptly with Roman summoning me to his office the next day. After the meeting, I went home immediately, even though Levi had asked for a dinner date. I didn’t feel up to it anymore. Not that the meeting didn’t go as planned. But I became exhausted from it. Before that moment, I was enthusiastic about unleashing my plan. But now that it was happening, even though I was fueled with rage, I felt rather overwhelmed. My mind went to Roman. Just that day, I had managed to get in his bad book more times than I could count, and I couldn’t help but notice how much it affected him.He didn't seem to have changed a lot. Aside from him being more aloof, he was still the same man I knew. He looked handsome in his navy blue suit and striking grey tie.I thought about our time together.Once he had offered to make me breakfast“Do I use the big or small pot?”“Now, what do I add next?”“The stew wouldn’t cook, it just wouldn’t,” he complained back and forth, and
Romans pov***My day had gone from bad to worse, and yet Levi kept me waiting. I checked my watch for what seemed like the hundredth time, and almost stood up to leave the restaurant when Levi came in.“Sorry, I’m...” he started, but I cut him off.“Where the hell have you been? you said 2 pm and you are never late,” I snapped. Just as I was ranting, I saw the PR specialist by his side.“What is she doing here?” I asked Levi, deliberately not turning to look at her.“Oh, Levi invited me for lunch, I thought it would be a good opportunity to know my boss better,” she replied instead. I hated her gut. I looked at Levi, my irritation palpable.“Come on, man, she also wants to apologize for this morning,” Levi offered.I sighed, thinking of how worse my day could go while they sat down“So Roman...” she started, but I cut her off sharply.“Sir Roman, to you, it's Sir Roman,” I corrected, wanting to emphasize my point.“Cut her some slacks, man,” Levi added, trying to reduce the tension.“
