CHAPTER 9 - MEET THE CARTERS

Leah was restless the whole night. Trying to figure out Alex's secret was driving her crazy. It was obvious he wasn't pure, but how devious was he, really?

She woke up to a knock on the door. One of the maids entered with a tray and a tea cup. “From madam Victoria.” She said, giving a polite nod as she handed over the tray to Leah.

Leah stared at the gooey green sediment that looked like a swamp and smelt worse, she immediately felt nauseous and dumped the whole thing in the sink before heading downstairs.

Victoria was humming in the kitchen, oddly cheerful. “Ah, Good morning Leah, you're up early.”

Leah smiled warmly. She still wasn't used to Victoria's niceness. People didn't change overnight - not without a reason But maybe babies were the exception. They called them miracles, after all. “Good morning, I went to bed quite early, that's why I woke up early."

“Good, Did you get the herbal tea I sent to you?”

Leah avoided Victoria's gaze as she lied. “Yes, I drank it all.”
