EMELY

After dinner that evening, I walked Papa and Mama out to the front terrace.

The night air felt colder than usual. The garden lights glowed softly, casting our shadows across the spotless marble floor. Mama still held my arm tightly, as if she were afraid I might disappear the moment she let go.

“Take good care of yourself, Em,” she said gently. Her hand slid down, resting over my stomach in a slow, careful motion. “You’re not alone anymore.”

I smiled. “I will, Ma,” I answered softly.

Papa stood beside her. His face looked far lighter than it had earlier that afternoon. The tension lines on his forehead were gone, replaced by an expression of pride I rarely saw directed at me.

“I never expected this,” he said with a small chuckle. “Two at once.”

He shook his head, still sounding amazed. “God really does have His own way.”

I lowered my gaze. His words felt like both praise and punishment. Two grandchildren. Two blessings. And one lie I could never take back.

Mama hugged me again,

EMELY“Oh? Didn’t Alexander tell you that starting today, I’ll be living in this house too?”The world seemed to grind to a halt. I stared at Lorian, my mouth hanging open, but no sound came out. It was still broad daylight, sunlight spilling through the corridor windows, yet the room suddenly felt dark, airless, as if the walls were closing in on me.“What… what do you mean?” My voice finally broke through, barely a whisper, trembling so badly it almost disappeared.Lorian’s smile widened. She stepped farther inside without waiting for an invitation and sat down at the edge of my bed as if she belonged there. She crossed her legs gracefully, one hand stroking her rounded belly, the other braced against the mattress, right where I usually slept.“Alexander said it would be more practical if I stayed here until I give birth,” she said lightly, her tone sweet, as though she were talking about planning a picnic. “Our pregnancies are so close together, Em. Your baby and mine will be born

  • THE BILLIONARE'S UNWANTED WIFE   CHAPTER 33: Two Slaps in One Day

EMELY“Who was the man you were just meeting?”Alexander’s voice was flat, but loud enough to draw the attention of several people on the sidewalk. He was already standing directly in front of me, one hand tucked into his coat pocket, his eyes narrowed and sharp like knives. His black car was parked crookedly behind him. He must have stopped abruptly the moment he saw me walk out of the café.My heart slammed violently against my ribs. Panic surged up my throat, making it hard to breathe.“Alex…” I stammered, stepping back half a pace. “What are you doing here?”“Answer me first,” he said coldly, stepping closer until barely a meter separated us. “Who was the man who walked you to the door? And don’t tell me he was just an old friend. I saw his face clearly.”I swallowed, my fingers tightening around my bag. Steven was still faintly visible through the café window, and I silently prayed he wouldn’t come outside.“It was Steven Hale,” I said at last, my voice barely steady. “He—”“Stev

  • THE BILLIONARE'S UNWANTED WIFE   CHAPTER 32: Who?

EMELYI woke up that morning with my heart beating faster than usual. Not because of a nightmare, but because today I was going out. Alone. No family driver, no reporting my whereabouts to anyone. Just one hour, yet it felt like planning an escape.I stood in front of the wardrobe longer than I had in weeks, weighing my options. In the end, I chose a loose navy-blue midi dress. It was comfortable enough for my stomach, which was beginning to feel heavy, but still neat enough to suggest I cared about how I looked. I brushed my hair and swiped on a thin layer of nude lipstick. Small things, but it felt like slipping back into an old skin. When I went downstairs, Alexander was already seated at the dining table in his usual spot. A tablet in his hand, black coffee untouched beside it. He glanced up briefly as I entered, his gaze sharp as ever.“Eat first,” he said flatly, without a smile.I sat down and took some yogurt and fruit. My hands trembled slightly as I peeled an apple.“Where a

  • THE BILLIONARE'S UNWANTED WIFE   CHAPTER 31: The First Crack of Light

EMELYThe car drove home in a silence heavier than the one that had accompanied us that morning.Alexander sat beside me, his thumb scrolling endlessly across his phone. The blue glow of the screen lit his face, calm and untroubled, as though the words he’d spoken in the doctor’s office just minutes ago were nothing at all. Just another routine business formality.I stared out the window, but the city no longer felt like a silent movie rolling by. This time, every skyscraper, every passing car, seemed to echo his words over and over inside my head.I doubt my wife. I hope the baby is a boy.The two sentences took turns stabbing at me. One insulted me as a wife. The other insulted a child who hadn’t even been born yet.Alexander finally locked his phone and glanced up—not at me, but at the driver.“Straight home,” he said curtly. Then, as if only just remembering I was sitting beside him, he added without looking at me,“This is just a formality, Emely. In two weeks everything will be

  • THE BILLIONARE'S UNWANTED WIFE   CHAPTER 30: The Words That Broke Me

EMELYI sat on the edge of the bed in my private room, my phone still glowing in my hand. Steven’s message was simple, yet for some reason it felt unbearably heavy to answer.Steven: [Are you okay, Emely?]I read it again. And again. My thumb hovered over the keyboard, typing sentences only to delete them moments later. I wanted to tell him everything. About the slap that still burned on my left cheek. About my husband standing in silence while his mother humiliated me. About the DNA test meant only for me, as if I were the sole liar in this house. About the child growing inside me, a life that should have been hope, now reduced to an accusation. But I typed none of it.In the end, my fingers moved on their own, forming the safest answer possible.Emely: [I’m fine. Thank you for asking.]I stared at the words for a few seconds, then hit send before I could change my mind. Less than a minute later, a reply appeared.Steven: [Are you sure?]A small smile tugged at my lips. He had always

  • THE BILLIONARE'S UNWANTED WIFE   CHAPTER 29: When I Was No Longer Trusted

EMELY“If Lorian is already like your own child, then a DNA test shouldn’t be a problem for him too, right?”The smile on my face hadn’t fully faded when the slap landed. It wasn’t hard, but it was enough to snap my head to the side, enough to make the world seem to freeze for a split second. I stood there, stunned. Heat bloomed across my left cheek, spreading all the way to my ear. The room fell instantly silent.Anna stood in front of me, her chest rising and falling. Her hand was still raised halfway, as if even she hadn’t fully processed what she’d just done.“Insolent,” she snapped. “Don’t you ever compare yourself to Lorian.”Slowly, I turned my face back toward her. I didn’t cry. I didn’t scream. There was only a dull ringing in my ears and an emptiness spreading outward from my chest.I glanced to the side. Alexander was still standing where he was. He hadn’t moved. There was no anger, no shock, not a single reaction I could read as defense. Our eyes met.“Mother,” he finally
