The next morning, a hush hung over the penthouse like a fragile veil of glass. Scarlett stirred in the sheets, her eyes fluttering open to a soft gray sky beyond the windows. The space beside her was empty still warm but the man who had poured his heart into her arms the night before was already gone.

Her fingers brushed the pillow where Sebastian's head had rested. She closed her eyes, savoring the remnants of his scent, like cedarwood and winter rain. The way he had held her, trembling and silent, haunted her. He had cried. Sebastian Hale had cried not out of weakness, but out of the unbearable weight of love finally accepted.

Scarlett rose and pulled on a robe, the satin whispering against her skin. She walked to the living room and found a note waiting on the coffee table.

“I needed air. But I’ll be back before you can miss me. - S.”

She smiled faintly.

But by the afternoon, he hadn’t returned.

Hours passed. Messages were left unread. Calls went unanswered. Worry slithered int

  • THE BILLONIARE UNWANTED SUBSTITUTE BRIDE   INTO THE CROSSFIRE

Bullets chewed through the furniture like hungry beasts. The couch that shielded Aria shredded under the onslaught, feathers and fabric spilling into the air in a storm of chaos. Her lungs burned as she pressed herself low against the floor, every muscle trembling. The deafening roar of gunfire swallowed her heartbeat, swallowed her thoughts. And then fingers.Rough, gloved hands clamped around her arm, yanking her from her hiding place.Aria screamed, twisting violently, nails raking against fabric and skin. But the man was too strong, dragging her upright with brutal force. His mask covered everything but his eyes cold, merciless eyes that locked on hers with a predator’s focus.“Got her!” he barked over the chaos. Her world spun. Her back slammed into his chest, the sharp press of steel against her temple. A gun.The smell of gunpowder and sweat choked her throat.“No!” Damien’s voice thundered, sharp and furious, cutting through the storm.Aria’s heart lurched. She turned her he

  • THE BILLONIARE UNWANTED SUBSTITUTE BRIDE   THE WALLS TREMBLE

Aria woke to silence. The kind of silence that pressed against her ears, heavy and unnatural, as if the house itself were holding its breath. Her eyes blinked open slowly, adjusting to the pale wash of dawn seeping through the curtains. For a moment she wasn’t sure where she was — the walls were unfamiliar, the sofa too stiff beneath her. Then memory rushed back. Damien had left her here. Hidden her away. Locked her inside a place that smelled faintly of cedar and steel, guarded by men who never smiled. Her gaze darted toward the armchair opposite the couch. Damien sat there, his posture rigid even in sleep, his head tilted back slightly against the cushion. She sucked in a quiet breath. She hadn’t heard him return. For a long moment she just watched him. The man who claimed to feel nothing, who wielded power like a weapon, who built walls so high around himself that most people never even glimpsed the man beneath. And yet here he was, sleeping in a chair across from her like a sentin

Damien hated leaving her.The steel door shut behind him with a quiet hiss, locking Aria inside the safehouse where no one but his men could reach her. Rationally, he knew it was the smartest move. She was out of sight, protected, guarded by walls no bullet could pierce. But rationality didn’t silence the gnawing unease in his chest. He climbed into the SUV waiting at the base of the driveway, the city lights spread far in the distance. The driver glanced at him in the rearview mirror, waiting for orders.“Pierce,” Damien said. The man nodded, starting the engine.Pierce wasn’t just his driver. He was one of the few men Damien trusted enough to keep close a former military officer who had followed him through more than one blood-soaked night. As they drove, Damien’s phone buzzed. A secure channel. He answered.“Boss,” Luca’s voice came through, tight with frustration. “We tracked the car that was outside the estate this morning. Plates were stolen, but the trail led back to the docks

  • THE BILLONIARE UNWANTED SUBSTITUTE BRIDE    A TARGET IN THE SHADOWS

The morning after felt deceptively normal.Sunlight streamed through the tall windows of the dining room, the rich scent of coffee curling in the air. Aria sat at the long table, absently stirring her tea, the silver spoon clinking softly against porcelain.Damien was on the opposite end, already dressed in a sharp charcoal suit, reading the news on his tablet. His expression was unreadable, as always but Aria could still feel the ghost of last night between them. The way his thumb had brushed her cheek. The way his voice had softened when he told her to go to bed. They hadn’t spoken about it.She was halfway through her toast when her phone buzzed on the table. She frowned, picking it up.Unknown number. She swiped to read the message.“You think he can protect you? He can’t even protect himself.”Her pulse jumped. She glanced instinctively at Damien, who was still looking at his tablet. A second message came through almost instantly.“Leave him before you end up like the last one.”

  • THE BILLONIARE UNWANTED SUBSTITUTE BRIDE   THE EDGE OF CONTROL

Alright — I’ll make Chapter 212 around 2000 words, shifting to Damien’s point of view right after he leaves Aria in the kitchen. We’ll dive deep into his private thoughts, his growing struggle to keep control, and his quiet decision that could change everything.-Damien’s footsteps were silent on the marble floor as he crossed the hall to his study. He didn’t need to slam the door noise wasn’t his way of venting. No, Damien’s rage was the kind that lived under the skin, tight and simmering, sharp enough to cut but invisible to the naked eye.The moment the door clicked shut, he stopped. His hands were curled into fists. Not because of the men at the warehouse they were already a solved problem, though they didn’t know it yet but because of the look on Aria’s face. That fear. That stubborn, reckless defiance. He had seen women look at him with terror before. He had seen them flinch when he raised his voice, or scramble to please him when his patience wore thin. But Aria… she was dif
