Roman’s phone buzzed twice before he answered it. His face shifted, calm but tense, and Lucien knew before he spoke that something urgent had come up.

“I have to go,” Roman said simply, already reaching for his coat. “Emergency at the hospital.”

Lucien gave a small nod. “Be careful.”

Roman’s hand lingered on Lucien’s shoulder for a second, with a brief, grounding squeeze — then he was gone, the front door closing quietly behind him.

Silence fell over the room, it's was thick and uneasy. Lucien exhaled, his chest tight. He stood there for a long moment, staring at the empty space where Roman had been, before finally heading toward the bathroom.

Halfway towards the bathroom, the memory hit him again.

He could see it again: the sneer on Mark’s face, the heat of his grip, the way the air had seemed to shrink when Mark had cornered him. The panic. The cold sweat. The way his voice had died in his throat.

Lucien’s body reacted before his mind could push the memory away. He sto

    Zayn stepped out of the black SUV, his tall frame cutting an imposing figure, one hand gripped a dark leather bag; the other adjusted the cuff of his suit. His steps toward the mansion were slow but deliberate, the sound of his shoes sharp against the clean pavement. The guards at the main door bowed quickly, but their eyes betrayed them. They kept stealing glances at him, hesitant, as if their throats were stuck with words they dared not say. Of course, Zayn noticed. His eyes narrowed slightly. He shifted his gaze to Day, who walked at his side. “Go find out why they’re acting strange,” Zayn said, his tone calm but leaving no room for questions. “Yes, Boss,” Day replied quickly. It wasn’t that Zayn couldn’t ask the guards himself. But his mind was already preoccupied—preoccupied with someone upstairs. The thought pulled his attention more than the strange atmosphere lingering at the entrance. Without another word, he walked past the guards, his presence enough to make t

    ~~~~~ONE WEEK LATER~~~~ It had been a week since that incident. Lucien couldn’t deny the fact that, Zayn had changed. He was no longer cold, no longer cruel toward him. At first, Lucien thought maybe it was only for a day or two. But as the days passed, Zayn kept the same tone with him. Sometimes serious, yes, but never unkind. Lucien could now speak to him more freely. Still, he was careful with his words—he wasn’t foolish—but Zayn made it clear, in his own way, that Lucien was safe to speak. Also, ever since that day, Lucien hadn’t seen Roman once. He had asked about him during lunch one day. Zayn’s answer had been short, his tone slightly different from normal. That small change in his voice was enough for Lucien to decide not to ask again. The mansion was different now. It was quiet. he hadn't seen Vera or Amy for a long time, but this only made him feel lighter. His old room had been emptied. All his belongings—his comics, clothes, were moved into Zayn’s suite. His bo
    Since Ma Claudia had pushed him out of the kitchen, Lucien wasn’t allowed to do anything. So, he headed back to Zayn’s bedroom. The room was quiet, the soft ticking of the wall clock the only sound. He walked slowly toward the bed, his bare feet making small creaks on the wooden floor. He sat on the edge of the bed and looked around, still thinking about what the maid had said earlier. Did Zayn really say that? Her words kept replaying in his mind like a stubborn echo. The possibility that Zayn had spoken about him like that made his chest tighten. He reached for the huge doll that sat propped against the pillows. it felt warm in his hands, maybe from the sun that had been shining through the window earlier. He pressed the doll against his chest, his fingers idly playing with its hair. He traced the little smile with his thumb. Lucien leaned back against the headboard. He tried not to think too much about Zayn — but it was impossible. Zayn’s voice, the way he spoke w
    The door creaked open slowly, letting in a soft draft from the hallway. The scent of warm bread and freshly boiled herbs drifted into the room before the figure appeared. Ma Claudia stepped in, balancing a wooden tray with both hands. The sunlight from the narrow window fell across her face, softening the deep lines on her cheeks. She always had that calm, steady way of moving, as if nothing could rush her, even when the house was noisy. Lucien blinked, momentarily caught between surprise and warmth. “Good morning, Ma Claudia,” he said, pushing himself up from the bed. His voice was still a little hoarse. She gave him a small smile. “You don’t have to stand, child.” Her tone carried that gentle firmness that made it impossible to argue without feeling guilty. Lucien hesitated for a second but remained standing, watching her as she crossed the room. She placed the tray carefully on the table by the wall, adjusting the cups so they wouldn’t slide. The steam from the food curled
    After Lucien was done bathing, warm steam still clinging faintly to his skin, he stepped out of the bathroom. His bare feet touched the soft carpet and, for a moment, the quietness of the room wrapped around him. He expected the space to be empty, but his steps slowed when he noticed Zayn still sitting in the bedroom. The man was leaning back on the bed, one arm propped lazily against the headboard, his eyes fixed on his phone. The soft glow of the screen reflected off his sharp features. Lucien’s brows rose slightly, but he said nothing. He tightened his grip on the towel hanging around his waist and walked toward the wardrobe. The wardrobe was massive—dark wood with polished handles, standing tall against the wall like it belonged in a magazine. Lucien pulled the doors open and was greeted by an orderly display of clothes hanging neatly in rows. The faint smell of new fabric drifted out. He froze for a second, because the sight took him back to yesterday—the shopping trip. T
  • THE BOY WHO COULD BEAR AN HEIR    Chapter 49: Don't Do Mornings...
    Zayn stared at the sleeping boy beside him. Lucien’s head had unconsciously slipped onto his lap somewhere along the drive, the gentle rise and fall of his breathing steady against Zayn’s thigh. Normally, at least the version of himself he used to be,Zayn would have been irritated, even angry. He would have woken Lucien immediately, scolded him for disobeying him earlier at the boutique. But that version of himself felt… far away now. Ever since that night—the night they kissed, something had changed. He didn’t want to admit it, even to himself. Yet here he was, unable to push the boy away, his hand instead finding Lucien’s soft hair and running through it slowly. The strands were warm from the heat inside the car. Outside the tinted window, the city lights blurred past in gold and silver smears. It was already night. Zayn had urgent matters to handle, several quick stops to make before heading home. Each time, he’d stepped out briefly, leaving Lucien inside the car. He didn
