The silent treatment ended when I noticed we would be having guests because of how busy the maids began moving.

Adrian’s parents returned from their trip that afternoon. The house became busy again with staff preparing for an important family dinner with business partners. I was in my room when Adrian walked in without knocking. He looked at me for the first time in days.

“Get dressed properly,” he said. “We’re having guests tonight. My father wants the whole family there.”

His voice was normal

  • THE BRIDE HE NEVER WANTED   Chapter 175- A DIFFERENT DIRECTION

I stood beside the boardroom table, watching the investors stare at the charts. Nobody spoke. Adrian looked at me as if he still couldn’t understand why I was there. His father looked just as surprised. The lead investor finally broke the silence. “You said you have something to say to us?” “Yes.” He glanced at the charts. “Then show us.” I took a breath and unrolled the first chart across the table. “I studied the Laurent Group’s current investments before coming here. Your problem isn’t that the company has no value. The problem is that too much of its money is tied to areas that are no longer giving the company enough protection.” One investor frowned. “And your solution?” “Diversification.” I pointed to the figures. “The company needs to reduce its exposure to the weakest sectors and move part of its investment into stronger areas of the market. Not all at once. Slowly, with proper risk control.” Another investor leaned forward. “You came here with a plan prepared this

  • THE BRIDE HE NEVER WANTED   Chapter 174- THE FINAL DECISION

By nine in the morning, Adrian had already showered and changed. He stood in front of his bedroom mirror, looking more tired than he wanted to admit. He had barely slept. Every time he closed his eyes, he remembered the warehouse, the children, Serena’s face when she finally held them again. His phone rested on the table. He picked it up. Serena’s name was on the screen. He almost called to inform her of the investors pulling out today. Then he stopped. She had been through enough. Her children had only just returned home after being kidnapped. She needed peace, not another phone call from him asking questions.Adrian put the phone down.“Let her rest,” he whispered. He picked up his jacket and left. The Laurent Group headquarters was already busy when he arrived. Employees moved quickly through the halls, but the usual energy was missing. People knew about the problems surrounding the company. They knew the investors were meeting that morning. And they knew this meeting could decide

  • THE BRIDE HE NEVER WANTED   Chapter 173- GET OUT

I woke suddenly. For a few seconds I couldn’t understand what was happening. Then I felt someone beside me.My eyes opened fully. “Nathan?”I pulled the sheet around myself and pushed him away. “Nathan!”He froze. I sat up quickly, my heart pounding.“What are you doing in my room?”Nathan stared at me. He looked caught, like he had been waiting for the right words but had none.“Serena, I…”“Get the fuck away from me.”He immediately moved back. “I’m sorry.”“No.” My voice shook with anger. “Don’t say that like it fixes anything. Why are you here?”Nathan lowered his eyes.“I couldn’t stop thinking about you.”“That doesn’t answer my question.”“Serena, I've missed you. I wanted to be close to you.”“And so you had to come into my room while I was sleeping?”“I know, I'm sorry please.”“You touched me while I was asleep.”His face tightened. “I know.”I stepped out of the bed and grabbed my robe. I wrapped it tightly around myself before turning back to him.“You had no right to do t

  • THE BRIDE HE NEVER WANTED   Chapter 172- THE NIGHT WE CAME HOME

When we got home. The moment I stepped through the front door, I saw Emma standing in the living room. Clara was beside her, and Nathan was sitting on the sofa. All three looked worried. Emma rushed toward me. “Serena!” “I’m fine.” She looked at the children in my arms before looking back at me “Where were you?” I opened my mouth, but she cut me off. “Do you have any idea what you put us through?” I stared at her. Emma had never spoken to me like that before. “Emma…” “No. Let me speak.” Her eyes filled with tears. “You disappeared without telling anyone. You went after a dangerous man alone. Your children were kidnapped, and we had no idea whether you were alive.” “I’m sorry.” “You should be.” Nathan sat forward. “Emma…” She turned toward him. The room became quiet. “I understand,” Nathan said. I lowered my eyes. “I should have told you. All of you. I just couldn’t think about anything except my children.” Emma’s expression softened. “I know but please don't do that eve

  • THE BRIDE HE NEVER WANTED   Chapter 171- MY CHILDREN ARE SAFE

The ambulance siren was still loud outside the warehouse when another officer came running toward us.I was still standing beside the wounded guard, staring at him as the paramedics prepared to carry him away. “Ma’am!” The officer called.I turned. “What happened?”“We found the children.”For a second, I forgot how to breathe. “What did you say?”“The children. Lila and Elias. They’ve been found.”I didn’t wait for anything else. I ran.“Serena!” Adrian called behind me.I barely heard him. My heart was beating so hard that I could feel it in my throat. I pushed past two officers and followed the man through a narrow hallway. Then I saw them.Lila and Elias were sitting together on the floor of a small room. They looked tired and frightened. Lila had tears on her cheeks, and Elias was holding tightly onto the side of her dress.I stopped at the doorway. For one moment, they looked unreal. I had imagined this moment so many times since they were taken. In every version, I had reached

  • THE BRIDE HE NEVER WANTED   Chapter 170: THE MAN WHO TOOK THE BULLET

The warehouse exploded into chaos. The sound of boots came from outside, followed by shouting.“Police! Drop your weapons!”I turned toward the entrance. Alex’s men immediately reached for their guns. My heart slammed against my chest. For one second, I thought I was finally safe. Then Alex grabbed me. His arm locked around my neck and pulled me against him. I struggled, but he was stronger. A cold piece of metal touched the side of my head. A gun.“Stay back!” Alex shouted. The police stopped. Adrian was among them. The moment our eyes met, everything inside me went still.“Serena.”His voice was low, almost broken. I wanted to run to him. But Alex tightened his arm around me. “Don’t move,” he warned.Adrian took one step forward. Alex pushed the gun harder against my head. “I said don’t move!”Adrian stopped. His face changed. I had never seen him look so frightened.“Alex,” he said carefully, “let her go.”Alex laughed. “You still think you can give me orders?”“No. I’m asking you.

I stayed slumped against the wall for a long time, his release still sliding down my thighs. The house was quiet now. Too quiet. Later that night, I couldn’t sleep. I wandered the halls, trying to find water, when I heard voices from the guest wing, low, intimate. I froze outside the slightly aj

Where is Lia?” He asked again. His voice cut through the room like something sharp. I didn’t answer. Not because I didn’t want to, but because I didn’t know where to start. He swung his legs off the bed and stood up, running a hand through his hair. The calm from last night was gone. What stood in

He smiled. Soft. Warm. Almost boyish. “There you are,” he murmured. My heart dropped. Because even now… He still thought I was Lia. He stepped in, jacket already off, shirt partially unbuttoned, the scent of whiskey and cologne clinging to him. His movements were unstable from drinking, but ther

  • THE BRIDE HE NEVER WANTED   Chapter 3- THE BRIDE BENEATH THE VEIL

The days before the wedding passed like a blur I couldn’t escape. People moved in and out of the house carrying fabrics, jewelry, flowers, and invitations while I stood in the middle of it all feeling completely detached. Measurements were taken and dresses were fitted. Every room was filled with
