Gabriel's Pov

Ever since the news of Renz’s death dropped, something inside me loosened. Relief… finally. A sense of order returning, like the world had clicked back into the place I designed for it.

Except for one problem.

Nyx.

She’d spiraled the moment she heard. Crying for days. Skipping meals. Ignoring my calls. Locking herself in that damn room like she was mourning a saint instead of a man who made one stupid mistake and paid the price.

I let her cry at first—fine, mourn the fool if you must. But it’s getting worse. She’s slipping deeper into a darkness she doesn’t even understand. And I can’t allow it. She needs to face reality… my reality.

I’ll admit that—Renz was a tough one. Smart. Quick. Loyal to the wrong people. But not invincible. Nobody is. One wrong move, and he fell like the rest.

Malachi handled it cleanly too. No wonder people fear him. The man delivers.

I almost smiled thinking about it.

But Nyx…

Her tears are beginning to sting.

Not because I care about her pain—n

  • THE DEVIL'S MISTRESS   Pregnant, angry, and not in the mood

Nyx's PovI found Gabe in the sitting room, scrolling through his phone like he had nothing to worry about.I stood there, holding my calm like it was glued on my face.“I’ll be going to town today,” I said. “I have some school paperwork to sort out.”He didn’t look up at first. Then he did—slow, studying me like I was lying by simply breathing.“Fine,” he said. “As long as you go with your company.”I forced a small smile. “I actually want to go alone. I’ll be back before evening.”He laughed. A quiet, sharp laugh that hit my nerves.“Nyx… you look different these days. Calm.”His eyes narrowed. “But I still don’t trust a single word you say. And I know you’ll jump at any chance to ruin me.”I said nothing. Just stared.Pretended peace.Pretended softness.Pretended I wasn’t seconds away from cracking.Holding this fake kindness was starting to drain the life out of me.The truth?I didn’t have any school work.Ever since I saw Renz in my dreams, I hadn’t been the same.I woke up res

  • THE DEVIL'S MISTRESS   A rundown sanctuary

Renz's PovPain dragged me back to life.My eyes opened slowly, the ceiling above me cracked and yellow… nothing familiar. My body felt wrong, heavy, stitched together in places I didn’t remember. But I breathed in—slow, deep—and a small smile pulled at my lips.“I’m alive,” I whispered.Tubes were stuck into my arms, wires all over my chest. Machines beeped beside me like they were mocking death for failing again.I pushed myself up with a grunt. And there he was—Marco. My brother. My right hand. My real blood. He stood stiff beside the bed, eyes shiny, face pale like he hadn’t slept in days. Poor kid. He must’ve been scared out of his mind. Probably thinking I’d never wake up.I gave him a small nod.He held my gaze… and a tear dropped. The idiot actually cried.“Damn,” I rasped, my voice hollow and cracked. “How long was I out?”Marco didn’t answer. He walked forward and hugged me so tight my ribs almost cried too.“Forty days… forty nights,” he whispered into my shoulder.I chuckl

  • THE DEVIL'S MISTRESS   Warmth in a cold house

I walked into the kitchen quietly, the way I always did these days.Elena was at the stove, her back to me. I’d memorized her routine by now. When she cooked. How she chopped. How she hummed under her breath when she thought no one was listening. So today… I wanted to cook for myself. But the moment she saw me, she froze like I’d walked in with a gun.Her eyes widened.“Nyx? What are you doing here? You should have called me. I would have come.”I breathed in through my nose, slow, steady. Why did everyone act like I might break at any second?“I want to cook,” I said with a small smile—not warm, just polite.Elena blinked at me like she didn’t believe what she heard.“Cook? No, you shouldn’t be in the kitchen. You’re pregnant. You should be resting.”“I’ve rested enough,” I said simply. “I want to make my own food.”Elena’s mouth tightened."I doubt Gabe would approve that."A small, cold laugh left me.“I don’t care what Gabe approves.”I met her eyes.“From today… I’m cooking my ow

  • THE DEVIL'S MISTRESS   Love is the hardest curse!

He exhaled, slow and heavy.“Nyx… let’s talk.”I held his stare for a long second before I pushed myself upright. My hands wrapped around my stomach on instinct. I could barely breathe.“Why are you doing this?” My voice cracked. “What did we ever do to you?”The anger in my chest burned so hard it came out as a sob.He sat beside me on the bed, too close, like he had any right.“Look, Nyx…” he said quietly. “My fight is with Renz. Not you. And seeing you like this—broken, shaking—I realized something. I should keep you out of it.”His jaw moved.“Because you’re mine now.”Mine.The word made my skin crawl. We talked, argued, snapped. Then he finally said what he really wanted.“I’ll treat you better,” he said. “If you stay with me… if you agree to be my woman…”He swallowed hard, the words sour on his tongue.“…I’ll let you keep the child.”My heart twisted so sharply I almost doubled over. Tears slipped out before I could stop them. I tried to breathe, but it shook out of me in piec

  • THE DEVIL'S MISTRESS   A dead man's child

I lay still on the bed, breathing slowly, pretending to be asleep.Maybe if I stayed quiet long enough, Gabriel would get bored and leave. But he didn’t.He just stood there… watching me.Too silent. Too still. The doctor must have told him everything—his face looked carved out of anger.“Until when were you planning to hide it from me?” he said, voice flat and cold.My fingers twitched under the blanket. So he already knew I was awake.“Answer me!” he barked.I slowly pushed myself up, keeping my tone level.“Don’t shout.”He dragged in a breath like he was trying not to explode.“The doctor told me you’re pregnant,” he said. “Are you aware of that?”I let out a short, dry laugh.“Why do you think I’ve been putting up with you?”I didn’t even get to finish. The lamp beside me shattered as his hand knocked it to the floor.Glass scattered everywhere. Before I could react, his hand was wrapped around my neck—tight, crushing—stealing every bit of air.“How dare you lie to me?” he roared

  • THE DEVIL'S MISTRESS   Rules are changing...

Nyx's PovMy whole body aches.I lay on my bed, staring at nothing, letting the day squeeze the air out of me. It was chaos from morning till night—but seeing Miami again was worth every bruise.Even better… Camila.I still can’t process it. One minute I had no one. The next, I’m looking into the face of my sister. I still couldn’t believe how much my life had changed in just one day.And knowing my baby girl is okay… it almost fixed something in me. Almost. But the guilt hits just as hard. She met her own father like a stranger.Because of me.Stupid. Coward. I curse myself until my chest burns.Racing is the only door out of this prison, the only way to breathe. But if the institution finds out I’m pregnant—they’ll chain me for good. The thought makes me hiss under my breath.Gabe relaxed some rules, but not the one that matters. No phone. No contact. I only reached Camila because I stole a phone from one of the men earlier.I placed my hand on my stomach and just lay there, thinkin
