The sound of soft jazz filled Elena’s apartment that morning. The sun streamed through the sheer curtains, painting the kitchen in gold. Alexander stood by the counter, sleeves rolled up, flipping pancakes with surprising precision. Elena leaned against the doorway, amused. “Since when does the great Alexander Drake cook?” she teased. He glanced over his shoulder, smirking. “Since his partner started making impossible breakfast demands.” “I asked for coffee and fruit,” she laughed. “You made an entire meal.” He shrugged. “Old habits. I don’t do anything halfway.” She walked closer, reaching for a strawberry from the plate. “You do realize if anyone saw you like this, they’d never believe it.” He leaned toward her slightly. “Then it’s a good thing they won’t.” Her smile softened. “You like keeping secrets, don’t you?” He met her eyes. “Only the ones worth protecting.”

The moment was interrupted by his phone buzzing on the counter. The name flashing on the screen made him freeze. Daniel Ward. He hesitated, then answered. “Daniel.” A deep voice replied, clipped and direct. “We need to talk. It’s about the Cartwright deal and about your father.” Alexander’s face darkened. “I told you, I’m not interested in London.” “This isn’t about the offer anymore,” Daniel said. “It’s about your family’s stake in Ward Industries. There’s a legal complication, and if you don’t act fast, you could lose control of your shares.” Alexander’s grip tightened around the phone. “You’re bluffing.” “I’m not,” Daniel said calmly. “Meet me today. Noon. The old office on 5th.” The line went dead.

Elena watched him, concern clouding her expression. “What is it?” He sighed, setting the phone down. “A ghost from my past.” “Your father?” she guessed. He nodded slowly. “He built the company that gave me my first investment, then nearly destroyed it. Daniel Ward was his partner, a brilliant man but ruthless. They fell out years ago, and I walked away from the wreckage. I thought it was over.” Elena touched his arm gently. “Do you have to go?” “Yes,” he said. “If there’s even a chance he’s telling the truth, I need to protect what’s mine.” She studied him for a moment. “Then I’m coming with you.” He looked at her, torn. “Elena, this isn’t a board meeting. It could get messy.” “I’ve seen you at your worst,” she said softly. “I can handle messy.” He almost smiled. “You’re impossible.” She grinned. “You like that about me.”

The old Ward Industries building still stood tall on 5th Avenue, though time had worn its marble edges. When they entered, the air smelled faintly of dust and memory. Daniel Ward waited in the main office ,tall, silver-haired, and intimidatingly calm. “Alexander,” he greeted, extending a hand. “You look just like your father.” Alexander didn’t take it. “Let’s skip the sentiment.” Daniel chuckled. “Still impatient, I see.” His gaze flicked to Elena. “And who’s this?” “My associate,” Alexander said evenly. Daniel smirked. “Ah. The infamous Miss Cruz. I’ve heard of you.” Elena met his gaze without flinching. “Then you’ll know I don’t play games.” “Good,” Daniel said. “Because this isn’t one.” He slid a folder across the table. “Your father’s estate is still partially tied to my company.

When you refused the Cartwright expansion, you unknowingly triggered a clause that gives me temporary leverage over those assets. Unless we renegotiate, I’ll be the majority shareholder by the end of the quarter.” Alexander’s expression was unreadable. “You planned this.” Daniel smiled faintly. “Business, Alexander. You taught me well.” Elena stepped forward. “So you blackmail him for control? That’s not business, that’s manipulation.” Daniel turned to her. “You’re brave. I see why he keeps you close.” Alexander’s jaw clenched. “Enough. What do you want?” Daniel’s voice softened, almost regretful. “A partnership. Not with Vanguard ,with you. I need your influence to stabilize Ward Industries. You need my backing to protect your father’s name. Think of it as rewriting history.” Alexander exhaled slowly. “You’re asking me to trust the man who tried to destroy my family.” “I’m asking you to finish what your father started,” Daniel replied. “Before someone else does.”

After the meeting, they walked in silence for several blocks. Finally, Elena spoke. “He’s dangerous.” Alexander nodded. “I know.” “Then why do I feel like you’re considering it?” she asked. He sighed. “Because he’s right about one thing the assets tied to my father’s estate could affect Vanguard’s future. If he seizes them, we lose part of our foundation. I can’t ignore that.” She stopped walking, facing him. “Alexander, every time you try to fix the past, it costs you something in the present.” He looked at her, pain flickering behind his calm. “This time, it could cost us everything we’ve built.” Her voice softened. “Then let me help you carry it.” He shook his head. “This isn’t your burden.” She stepped closer. “When are you going to understand? Everything that touches you touches me too. That’s what it means to care about someone.” He swallowed hard, his eyes darkening. “You’re making this too hard to fight.” “Then don’t,” she whispered.

That night, as rain began to fall over the city, Alexander sat in his office alone. The folder Daniel gave him lay open, numbers, clauses, memories he’d tried to forget. Elena’s words echoed in his mind: “Every time you try to fix the past, it costs you something in the present.” He reached for his phone, thumb hovering over her name , and then he called. When she answered, her voice was soft. “Alexander?” He took a deep breath. “You were right. I’ve spent too long trying to control what’s already gone. It’s time I start trusting the future and the people in it.” She smiled faintly through the line. “Does that mean you’re ready to stop fighting me?” He chuckled quietly. “I think I already lost that battle.”

  • THE EXCLUSIVE CONTRACT    CHAPTER 20:FOREVER IN MOTION

A year had passed since Alexander Drake walked away from the global CEO offer. The world had moved on, companies rose and fell, markets shifted, and new headlines replaced old ones. But within the walls of a modest office suite overlooking the same skyline, something far more lasting had taken root. Alexander adjusted his tie in the reflection of the glass wall as the morning sun spilled into his new company ,Drake & Cruz Consulting. The nameplate gleamed beside the door, elegant and simple. A partnership. Equal in every way. He smiled faintly as he heard familiar footsteps approaching. “You’re early,” Elena said, stepping in with a coffee in hand. Her eyes carried that same steady light that had once disarmed him in a boardroom filled with tension. “So are you,” he replied, taking the cup from her. “Still trying to outwork your boss, Miss Cruz?” She laughed softly. “Old habits die hard, Mr. Drake.” He leaned against the desk, sipping his coffee. “You realize we don’t have to keep ca

  • THE EXCLUSIVE CONTRACT    CHAPTER 19:THE CHOICE

The boardroom was colder than usual, too polished, too quiet, too formal. Alexander sat at the head of the long table, the skyline blazing behind him in sharp afternoon light. Every executive in the room watched him with a mix of respect and caution. “Mr. Drake,” began the chairman, folding his hands. “You’ve rebuilt Vanguard’s name in record time. Investors are returning, partners are renewing contracts, and morale is up. We couldn’t have asked for a better recovery.” Alexander inclined his head slightly. “I’m glad to hear that.” “But,” the chairman continued, glancing around at the others, “we’re at a crossroads. The global board has made an offer, a merger with Helios Industries. It would double our international presence, but there’s a condition.” Alexander’s brows furrowed. “What condition?” The chairman hesitated before saying, “They want you to lead the merged company. As Global CEO.” The room fell silent. Alexander blinked slowly. “That’s… not what I expected.” “It’s a once-in

  • THE EXCLUSIVE CONTRACT    CHAPTER 18:THE WEIGHT OF THE CROWND

The news spread faster than either of them could have imagined. “Alexander Drake Returns, Clears Name, Saves Vanguard from Collapse.” “The CEO Who Walked Away... and Came Back Stronger.” By morning, his name was everywhere, in headlines, on talk shows, on finance blogs. Photos of him and Elena walking through Vanguard’s glass doors filled the internet, sparking endless rumors about the mysterious woman always by his side. Elena tried to ignore it, but the whispers found her even in silence. In the elevator. At the café. Even in her inbox-messages from old colleagues, half-congratulating, half-curious. The world had noticed her, and she wasn’t sure she was ready for that kind of light. Alexander, however, handled the chaos like he always did, with composure, strategy, and that quiet, commanding air that drew people in. He stood before the press, unflinching, answering every question with measured calm. But when the cameras shut off and the microphones disappeared, the weight on his sh

The sound of the ocean was broken by the sharp trill of a phone vibrating on the table. Elena frowned from across the terrace. “You didn’t turn it off?” Alexander sighed, setting down his coffee. “It’s a satellite line. Only the board has this number.” The wind carried the scent of rain as he picked up the phone. For the first time in weeks, his tone hardened, the voice of the CEO returning. “Drake.” Elena watched him, tension creeping into her chest as the seconds passed. His expression shifted from calm to cold to something far darker. When he finally hung up, she asked quietly, “What happened?” He looked at her, eyes stormy. “Vanguard’s under investigation. Someone leaked internal data, transactions, client records, everything. The board thinks it traces back to me.” Elena’s breath caught. “That’s impossible. You left everything in order. We both did.” “I know.” His jaw clenched. “But they don’t. They’re calling it ‘suspicious timing.’” “So they think you” “Walked away to hide someth

  • THE EXCLUSIVE CONTRACT    CHAPTER 16:A DIFFERENT KIND OF FREEDOM

The hum of the ocean filled the air, rhythmic, calming, eternal. Waves rolled lazily onto the sand, and the scent of salt and jasmine hung like a whisper. Elena stood barefoot at the edge of the shore, the warm sunlight brushing against her skin. For the first time in years, she wasn’t running to meet deadlines or typing furiously to keep up with Alexander Drake’s impossible pace. Now, her world was quieter, filled with small, beautiful silences. Behind her, she heard his voice. “You’re up early.” She turned, smiling softly. “So are you.” Alexander approached, dressed casually in linen trousers and a white shirt that looked nothing like the tailored suits he once wore. His hair was tousled by the wind, and there was a calm in his eyes that Elena had never seen before. “I’m still adjusting to not waking up to twenty emails before breakfast,” he said dryly. She laughed, walking toward him. “You mean you’re still adjusting to being human.” He arched an eyebrow. “I thought you said I was

  • THE EXCLUSIVE CONTRACT    CHAPTER 15:THE FIRE WE STARTED

Morning light spilled through the glass walls of Alexander’s penthouse, touching everything in gold. The storm had passed, but its echoes lingered, not in thunder or rain, but in the quiet that followed. Elena stood by the balcony, watching the sunrise over Manhattan. Her hair danced with the wind, her mind lost between disbelief and wonder. Just days ago, she had been his secretary, cautious, professional, holding her emotions like secrets. Now, everything had changed. Alexander’s voice broke the silence. “You didn’t sleep.” She turned, startled. He was standing in the doorway, shirt unbuttoned at the collar, his eyes softer than she’d ever seen them. “I couldn’t,” she admitted. “Too much on my mind.” He stepped closer, his gaze locked on hers. “About what?” “Everything,” she said quietly. “My mother. Your father. Us.” A flicker of pain crossed his face. “Elena” “No, let me say this.” She took a deep breath. “When I walked into Vanguard, I just wanted a job. I never imagined I’d find
