Caleb

She picked up the small plastic fork inside the box, took a tiny bite, and let out a sound of pure satisfaction. "Oh, wow. That is amazing."

"See? I have great taste," I boasted, leaning in a little closer to her shoulder. "Unlike my brother, who thinks food only exists for survival.”

There. I had to let her know the difference between me and Drake.

Lilian laughed again, setting the box on her knees. "He really is like that, isn't he? I don't think I've ever seen him… improper."

"Drake

Drake:“Why aren't you saying anything?” Caleb asked skeptically. He was still standing a few feet away from me with his chest rising and falling from anger, watching me like I was a ticking bomb.Yet something inside me had gone very quiet. Of all the people who could have taken her home, it had to be him. The same Griffin Vance who'd spent the entire evening trying to get under my skin. The same man who'd made a spectacle of himself at the concert, who'd stood too close to Lillian, and who'd looked at me although he knew something I didn't. That fucker…I should have gone back to the event. But I’d been so occupied with my father that I'd left the situation in someone else's hands. And Griffin had taken advantage of it.My fingers curled against my palms. "How did that happen?"Caleb gave me a disbelieving look. "How do you think it happened? He offered to take her home, and she rejected him.""She rejected him?" Maybe there was hope after all."Yes. But my driver said he saw her in

Drake:“And make sure you're ready for Monza.” He paused, giving me a moment to absorb his words. “Because if you can't do that yourself, Drake, I'll step in and do it for you.”That was clearly a threat.I knew my father well enough to understand that he wasn't bluffing. He never made promises he couldn't keep, and he never threatened anyone without already considering the consequences. However, he was missing something from this entire conversation.I set my glass down. “Is that all?”His smile returned, but there was nothing warm about it. “For tonight.” Then he picked up his suitcase and headed toward the private hallway. I waited until I heard the sound of his footsteps fade before I let out a bitter laugh.Of all the nights for him to return. I had spent the entire evening setting my plans for Lillian into motion, and now my father had decided to interfere with my life.Fine.He could have his racing competition, his business meetings and his precious Sterling legacy. But he wa

Drake:Unfortunately, my mother had been different from my father, both in appearance and in the way she acted. It was probably what had led to her untimely disappearance from my life. Even more unfortunate was the fact that I had taken after her, which was probably why I had never learned to hide my feelings as effortlessly as my father did. Harrison was a smiling killer. He could make a threat sound like friendly advice and leave you wondering whether you had just been insulted or sentenced to death. There had never been a time when I appreciated his presence, and today was no exception. I folded my arms across my chest. “Why are you here? You weren't scheduled to return until next month.”“I heard some interesting things.” He removed his coat and draped it over the sofa before walking toward the floor-to-ceiling windows. Outside, the city lights reflected against the harbor, while rain streaked down the glass.“I came back to watch the Monza trials,” he continued. “Both my sons w

DrakeMy black luxury sedan glided into the private underground garage of my estate, a property completely different from the one where I had hosted the concert earlier that evening. But who would ever know?Nobody.Besides, that was the least of my problems.I stepped out of the car and yanked my black tie loose. Thomas was waiting near the entrance, as usual.“Welcome back, sir.”Fuck off, Thomas.I ignored him and pushed open the glass doors of my private penthouse. My blood was boiling, and I could feel the heat rushing through my veins all over again.“Shit,” I muttered, heading straight for the home bar.I grabbed a crystal bottle of scotch, poured myself a generous drink, and slammed the bottle onto the counter. Then I threw my head back and drained the glass in one long gulp. The alcohol burned my throat, but it did nothing to cool the fury simmering beneath my skin. The moment I closed my eyes, all I could see was Lillian Cross beneath the blinding stage lights. It had worked

Lillian I pulled my coat tighter around my shoulders and started walking toward the subway station three blocks away.As I walked, the cool breeze hit my hot cheeks, clearing away the heavy smell of perfume and wine. I had just taken three steps down the sidewalk when a pair of hurried footsteps echoed behind me."Lilian!"I turned my head over my shoulder.Griffin Vance was jogging down the steps of the civic center and before I knew it, he caught up to me and stopped right beside me with a grin on his face."Where are you running off to in such a rush?" Griffin asked, catching his breath slightly. "You rejected me.”"I'm going home," I said, turning back around to keep walking. "It's late, Mr. Vance.”“Call me Griffin," he said smoothly, falling right into step beside me. "And walking alone down these dark city streets doesn't sound like a great plan, little mouse. Let me take you home."I stopped walking and looked up at him. "This estate is safe. And I don't need a ride. My apart

Lillian:“I don't even drink on weekdays, Anna. You're the one who invites me for drinks.”While Anna and Michael bickered back and forth, I pulled Caleb slightly away from them. As much as I’d like to confront Anna and her gaslighting problems, I had more pressing issues. "Caleb," I whispered urgently. "Where is Drake?"Caleb frowned, looking around the room. "I don't know. He probably left.""Left?" I repeated, feeling my heart hammering against my ribs. "Why would he leave in the middle of his own company's concert?""Because he's probably sulking," Caleb shrugged, taking a bite of a chocolate truffle. "He was entirely against you performing here tonight, you know. He said it was a distraction, that you weren't ready for a crowd this big. I had to pull three favors just to get you on that schedule. Drake didn't want you anywhere near this stage."I stood there in the middle of the noisy ballroom, feeling the blood drain completely from my face.He didn't want you anywhere near thi
