Lillian:

"Good work, Caleb," Drake finally acknowledged, resting a hand on his brother's shoulder. "Now go get some rest. You have early physical training tomorrow."

"Yes, captain," Caleb teased with a quick laugh, packing his books into his backpack before hurrying out of the library, leaving the two of us alone in the vast room.

Was it just me, or was Caleb's face as red as tomatoes? Waving that aside. I began to gather my red pens and notebooks so I could leave on time.

Drake:"I know," I said. "He was looking at his pad."Immediately, Lillian let out a short, bitter sound. "I knew it. You don't have to say it like that.""Like what?""Like I'm pathetic.""You aren't pathetic," I said, leaning forward slightly. "You're just inefficient. You waste time hoping people will hand you things you ought to demand. I see it in the way you work.”I waited to see her reaction. Unfortunately, she didn't look impressed. "Well, not everyone operates like you, Drake Sterling," she retorted resentfully.I scoffed. She was right. Not everyone took charge when needed. I was one of the few in the entire world. She better respect-“Listen to me, you jerk. Some people wait for things to happen naturally, while some people care about whether the other person actually wants them around.""And how is that working for you?"Lillian flinched. The reaction was tiny… but I caught it."Stop," she whispered shakily."Why?" I asked, pushing off the desk. I walked around the mahog

Drake:What a load of bullshit. I chuckled, amused by her statement."Your life," I repeated softly. "Maybe worthless, but I want it."Lillian's brow pulled together. "What did you just say?""I know everything that happens in my city, Lillian. I know who you talk to. I know where you go. What did you say again? You're here for work? Oh, come on, Lillian. You know that's silly talk. You're here because of me.""No." She shook her head without hesitation. "I'm here because—""It becomes my business when you bring distractions into my estate," I murmured, leaning down until my mouth was inches from her ear. "When you're in this house, you look at me. You listen to me, and you take whatever I give you like a good girl."Lillian jerked back as if my words had burned her. "You're horrible," she gritted out."Well, you work for me. If you want attention, you don't need to beg some art student for it. You have me."Her eyes widened in disbelief before they hardened into a glare. "What art st

  • THE F1 CAPTAIN'S FORBIDDEN TUTOR    Chapter 15 Too Emotional

Drake:The music echoed through the empty house. It was clean, emotional, and entirely uncontrolled... everything I spent my life avoiding. My hand tightened over the railing until my knuckles went white.No. I shouldn't entertain such thoughts.I remembered the way she had spilled her drink down her dress at the fundraiser, looking at me with absolute fury instead of apologizing. Then there was the backstage hallway. The way her skin had burned under my fingers when I brushed her hair away from her face.My jaw tightened. She was a distraction. A dangerous, unnecessary complication during a season where I needed total focus to keep Griffin from taking the championship. That should have been enough. It wasn't and the realization irritated me more than it should have. The rain outside the penthouse suite didn't stop. It battered the double-paned glass with a relentless downpour, turning the city into something else. I stood by the table and poured myself a drink.Behind me, the double

Drake“The subject arrived at 14:10. Stood near the target (identified as Noah, second-year fine arts student) for approximately three minutes. Target made a brief greeting, returned to sketching. The subject remained motionless for 42 seconds before departing alone. No further contact.”I chuckled deeply. Interesting.“Wrap up in ten minutes.”“Wait-” she was about to argue, but I was already on my way out.“Are you leaving?” Marcus quickly followed me into the hallway.I exhaled sharply. “No Marcus.” Without wasting time, I checked my phone again. The message I read wasn't complete, and there were some pictures attached to it. There was no way I could check those in front of Lillian. So I had to leave.I opened the document for the second time and three photographs appeared on the screen. The first photo showed the conservatory library from two days ago. The camera angle was high, taken from the second floor which looked down into the rows of tables near the art section. Lilian w

Drake"I know. Sleep well, Lilian. Clothes have been placed in the closet for you." Without another word, I turned around, walked out of the room, and closed the doors behind me.If I had stayed there any longer…•••••••••••••••A week ago:The telemetry screen on the monitor read three-tenths of a second slower on Sector Two.I didn't move my eyes from the digital line. The red trail belonged to Griffin. The blue trail was mine. Sector Two was a long right-hand turn at the track in Monza, the kind of corner where you either trust the force or you lift off the throttle and hand the lap time to the opponent on a silver platter.Well, I didn't lift and I would never lift. But Griffin was taking a tricky angle, cutting across the strips with an aggression that was going to tear his front tires to shreds before Lap Fifteen."He's pushing the compound too hard," Marcus, my chief engineer, said over my left shoulder. He pointed a grease-stained finger at the screen. "Griffin knows he can't

  • THE F1 CAPTAIN'S FORBIDDEN TUTOR    Chapter 12 Stay

Lillian:“There must be a taxi, or a train, or-""There are no taxis operating tonight," a deep voice drawled from behind me.Shit. Drake. Before I could even turn around, his large hand gripped my left shoulder and my whole body stiffened at the sudden physical contact. My violin case nearly slipped from my fingers, but Drake’s grip only tightened on my shoulder, holding me securely in place. His fingers were so warm… "Drake," I gasped, spinning my head slightly to look up at him.He stood remarkably close, his chest almost brushing against my shoulder. He had not bothered to put his suit jacket back on, leaving his black dress shirt unbuttoned at the throat and his dark hair slightly rumpled. He looked down at me with those cold, unreadable grey eyes and my knees wobbled. This. This was why I didn't want to stay."Thank you for the clarification, Thomas," Drake looked over my head at his driver. "You may return to the staff quarters for the night.""Of course, Mr. Sterling," Tho
