LOGINChapter Eight
Ethan didn’t come home that night. He had spent the whole night at Celeste’s place, and Aurora knew this because Celeste did not fail to keep her updated through out the night. Aurora woke up the next morning to find that she’d received a ton of messages from Celeste during the night. “What the hell?” She scoffed in disbelief as she opened the messages. Many of them were pictures. One was of Ethan making dinner for Celeste. He looked tall and dashing in the kitchen, with his sleeves rolled up to his forearms as he stirred something over the fire. Celeste: Ethan and I grew up together and he has never for once let me suffer. I specifically asked for this blue prawn porridge, and he made it for me himself even though it’s so late. Tell me, Aurora, does Ethan even know your favorite food? Aurora stared at the message, indifference and irritation etched on her features. Of course, Ethan knew nothing of her diet or favorite foods. Infact, when they had gotten married, she’d quickly realized that their dietary preferences were a sharp contrast. Ethan loved seafood while she was allergic to them, but she ensured that he was always served his favorite things at every meal. Riley herself seemed to have picked up her father’s dietary preferences and Aurora found herself missing her own kind of foods, while catering to the needs of father and daughter. And for the record, she was sure Ethan would rather shoot himself in the throat than cook for her. Her nose was held high in disdain, as she scrolled on to the next picture. It was one of Ethan sleeping peacefully in Celeste’s arms. He looked so content while Celeste had a smug look on her face. Ethan was bare chested, while Celeste was scantily clad in a black and red lacy nightgown. Celeste: He’s only ever at peace when he’s with me. I am the perfect fit for Ethan, Aurora. I am the only one who can satisfy him, and he will only ever want me. You will never measure up. Give up already. Celeste went through all the messages, a cold indifference settling on her being. It seemed after a while Celeste got tired of Aurora’s silence even with the images she had sent, and resorted to outrightly saying anything that would hurt her to get her to respond. Celeste: Your husband is mine, Aurora. You’re nothing more than a scheming manipulative woman to him, and you will never have his heart, you bitch. Don’t ever think you will come between us. Celeste: It’s about time you give up, don’t you? I mean, your husband and even your child loves me. Why wouldn’t they? I am a top medical researcher in the country, and my family is one of the most respected in the city, while you’re just a nobody. You little bitch, is it until I bleed you dry before you realize you lost already? You good for nothing loser! Calmly, Aurora took screenshots of the messages, then blocked Celeste, deleting the number completely from her phone. Knowing how persistent and insecure the homewrecking bitch was, she knew Celeste would soon contact her with another number. But Aurora didn’t care for now. She would soon be granting Celeste her wish; a ready made trash of a husband and a kid who would love her as her mother. She got out of bed and went downstairs. “Good morning, Mom!” Riley chirped brightly as soon as Aurora walked into the dining room. She was all dressed up for school and was gulping down a bowl of cereal and fruits. “Good morning, Madam.” The head maid greeted Aurora as well, then handed her a cup of coffee. “Morning Lucille. Hi baby,” Aurora replied, as she sat down at the table beside Riley, cradling the cup of hot coffee in both hands. The warmth seeped through her skin and was a bit scalding but this was how she liked her coffee. Hot and black. Aurora looked around the very bare table, which only had a few dishes on it. She had slept in that morning and had not supervised breakfast, which was strange. Normally, she ensured that all the meals in the house were well prepared to suit Ethan and Riley’s taste. These meals were always fresh and never stored and some of them were quite elaborate, but that morning had been different. The head maid had to use her discretion to prepare something simple for Riley, and since Ethan was not at home, it was even easier. Now, that Aurora was finally awake, she went on to ask, “The master is not home, and it’s Wednesday, so he will be home early,” she uttered, “What should we make for dinner, ma’am?” Aurora shrugged, “I don’t know.” She replied, swirling her coffee slightly before taking a sip, “Make whatever you want.” The head maid’s brows shot up in surprise, “E…excuse me?” Even Riley looked at her mom with puzzlement, perhaps sensing a shift in Aurora’s demeanor. She bit her lips in worry and stopped eating, but she was not worried about Aurora. She was worried about the fact that her Dad was not home, and as such, it would be Aurora taking her to school that morning. “No, I can’t let that happen.” She mused to herself, “If Dad’s not home, he will be with Aunt Celeste, and she promised to meet me at school today to give me my sponge cake for lunch. Her sponge cake is the best. I can’t let mom take me to school today. Mom is being a meany, and she doesn’t like Aunt Celeste.” At that moment, Aurora turned to look at the head maid calmly, “From now on, prepare whatever meals you think is best for the family,” she uttered, “Do not bother me about it anymore.” The head maid’s mouth dropped open in shock, but the next instant, she nodded in response, “Yes ma’am.” Aurora’s tone and expression had brooked no disobedience, and the Lucille was not ready to start pondering on what made the Madam change so drastically today. Aurora turned back to Riley. She was just in time to see Riley withdraw her gaze sharply, then stood up from the table. “I’m done with breakfast!” She announced, then bolted for the door, “Bye mom, bye Lucille!” Aurora blinked, “Riley, your Dad isn’t home. How about you wait a bit for mummy to change and take you to school?” “NO!” There was stunned silence in the room for a few seconds as the staff stared at the little girl in shock. Her “NO!” had been very resounding and…rude. They looked to Aurora to see how she’d take this behavior but strangely, Aurora’s expression remained the same. Calm, with her eyes narrowed in a watchful gaze. Riley’s cute face was scrunched up in defiance and stubbornness and she stomped her foot hard on the ground. Like Aurora was pestering her and had made her yell out of frustration. “I don’t want you taking me to school, mom!” She finally uttered with a defiant pout, “I will just go with the driver. If mom takes me to school, it will be a disaster!”Chapter NineThere was a soft gasp from Lucille at those words.“Young Miss, don’t say that.” She uttered softly with a coercive smile, “Your dad is not home today and the madam is free. Let her just take you. You haven’t had your mom take you to school in ages.”All the staff knew the dynamics of the young Langford family. Aurora was a full time housewife, and the staff somehow knows that the madam can’t appear in public as Ethan’s wife.So if she was seen in public with Riley, people would assume she was a nanny. But this does not happen very often.Ethan does not play with his daughter and as soon as Riley was of school age, he always took her to school and picked her up himself. It seemed like Aurora had only been involved in the child’s life when she was only a baby. As Riley grew older, she was becoming more and more distant from her mom.The staff weren’t stupid, too. They also knew another woman was involved, and while they could do nothing about anything, they thought Ethan

Chapter Seven.Since she’d agreed to the “rules” of their marriage, Ethan only came to her room on the seventh. Aurora learned to live with the arrangement and eagerly looked forward to the seventh of every month. She soon got weary of it though.Ethan treated the activity like it was one of the activities to be ticked off his schedule. He was the first man that she’d ever been with, but even she knew the art of lovemaking should not be this mechanical…this formal.Any attempt she made to spice up their sex life was looked upon with disdain by Ethan. Her sexy lingerie disgusted him, and an attempt to stimulate foreplay irritated him.“Let’s just get on with it.” He would say through gritted teeth, “I’m already giving you what you wanted, Aurora. A marriage with the heir of the Langford Capital Group!” He scoffed arrogantly, “And yet, you want more?! Why are you so freaking greedy! Isn’t this enough, goddamn it?!”Aurora soon stopped trying, as she quickly learned to live with their
Chapter SixAurora’s froze underneath him and her eyes widened in alarm for a second, as the realization of what he’d just said crashed through her.Shit! He was right.Six years ago, when she’d newly married Ethan, he’d called her into on his study with all the formality of a businessman calling on his associate.“Take this.” Ethan had said coldly, handing her a file as soon as she’d walked in. He sat behind his desk, looking as dashing as ever but the eyes he regarded her with were cold and soulless.Aurora dragged her thoughts away from his expression, and collected the file from him.She read the first line and blinked in astonishment.“Our marriage…rules?” She asked, her voice soft with uncertainty.“No.” Ethan leaned forward, his elbows in the mahogany desk in front of him, He glared up at Aurora, “They are just for you. You’re to agree with everyone of them if you wish to stay here. Go through them to see what it’s about. If you don’t like them, it’s fine. You can leave.”Auror
Chapter FiveAurora returned to the quiet house, and went straight to her bedroom, silently acknowledging the housekeeper who greeted her.She headed to her closet and began calmly packing her things, taking her time because there was not much to pack in there. She did not own a lot of things and they were mostly what she’d brought into the marriage herself. As the wife of the CEO of Langford Capital Group, she obviously had some spending money allocated to her each month but Aurora never made use of the card.In the first year of their marriage, she’d made use of the card for the very first time, purchasing a new shawl for herself.Ethan’s mother, Vera, had taken one look at it and sniffed in haughty indignation.“That’s all you’re ever good for,” she’d uttered in disdain, “Spending my son’s money! Aurora, you must be so glad you hit the jackpot, right? Manipulating an old man so you can have a part of the Langford’s wealth?! How disgraceful!”Aurora had never brought anything for he
Chapter FourCeleste turned towards Ethan at that moment, her doe eyes as bright as the stars.“This is really so beautiful, Ethan.” She uttered, holding the necklace up, “Can you help me put it on? I want to see how it looks like.”Ethan got up without a word, taking the jewelry box from her hands. Celeste turned in her chair, sweeping her long, dark hair to the side of her neck to allow Ethan gain access. She looked back at the shadows once more, her malicious gaze on Aurora’s.Celeste was wearing a beautiful off-shoulder dress and when Ethan placed the necklace around her neck, she reached up and held his hand, keeping it in place on her bare shoulders.Ethan leaned down at that moment so she could say in his ear, “Thank you.”He smiled, a flash of dashing dentition, his thumbs drawing lazy circles around her smooth skin. His face was so close to Celeste’s that their lips, even their eye lashes were almost touching.Riley clapped happily, “Daddy and Celeste look so happy good toge
