Mag-log in“Hey, Rowan!” Aiden called, running toward him.
Rowan spun, driving his fist forward, but Aiden rushed in at the same time. The punch landed on his face instead, and he dropped instantly.
Kai froze, then knelt beside him, tapping his cheek to revive him as Rowan stared in confusion. He had meant to hit Kai, not his brother.
“It’s all your fault,” Rowan spat, striding toward them, but before he could reach them, Kai bolted for the door.
“You better run, you bastard,” Rowan scoffed after him, then he turned back to Aiden.
“Wake up!” Rowan muttered, tapping Aiden’s face while scanning the room. His gaze landed on a glass plant.
He grabbed it, pulled out the flowers, and lifted the water, ready to pour it over Aiden.
“Don’t!” Aiden groaned, his eyes still shut.
“Nice acting,” Rowan said, setting the plant back.
Aiden slowly sat up, rubbing his already reddening cheek.
“How could you try to punch him that hard? Have you lost it?”
“How could you watch him use my belongings? And why isn’t he gone?” Rowan shot back.
“Stop being a badass and look at the beautiful painting he made! I wanted to show you. It’s mesmerizing, and I think the Rodriguez's would love the design,” Aiden explained, but Rowan let out a mocking chuckle.
“Rodriguez's like what that bastard drew? You’ve clearly lost a nut from that punch,”
“I’m serious. They’re beautiful. I’ve seen them,” Aiden insisted, moving toward the paintings.
“Come take a look. Honestly, you’ll love it,” Aiden said, but instead Rowan walked toward the door.
“There’s nothing good that fool does. And there’s no point seeing his silly paintings. They’re just as useless as he is,” Rowan spat, placing his hand on the doorknob.
Suddenly, the door yanked open.
Mrs. Hale rushed in, panting.
“What happened to Aiden?” she asked Rowan, then spotted Aiden standing. She hurried to him and noticed the red mark on his cheek.
“How could you be so careless to miss a step and fall?” Mrs. Hale scolded gently, touching it.
“Miss a step?” Rowan echoed, staring back.
Kai had lied to save him.
Rowan’s jaw tightened.
“Aiden didn’t miss a step,” Rowan said slowly, his eyes fixed on his mother. “He ran into my punch.”
Mrs. Hale froze, her hand hovering near Aiden’s cheek. She turned to Rowan. “Your… punch?”
Rowan exhaled sharply. “I was aiming for Kai.”
Aiden straightened. “Rowan…”
“No, don’t,” Rowan cut in, lifting a finger. “That guy broke into our space, touched my things like he owned the place.”
Mrs. Hale withdrew her hand. “Kai touched your belongings?”
“He used my board,” Rowan snapped. “My brushes and my drafts.”
Aiden stepped forward. “And he made something incredible with them.”
Rowan scoffed. “You’re still defending him?”
Before Aiden could answer, Mrs. Hale turned fully to Rowan, her voice calm but firm.
“You don't solve problems with fists.”
Rowan looked away.
Aiden touched his arm. “Row… he’s not what you think.”
Rowan pulled back, dropping Aiden's hand. “You barely know him.”
“I know what he painted,” Aiden said quietly.
That caught Mrs. Hale’s attention. “Painted?”
Aiden nodded and walked to where Kai’s canvases were.
Mrs. Hale stepped closer without realizing it, her mouth parting, while Rowan stayed where he was.
Aiden glanced back. “You see what I mean?”
Mrs. Hale stopped in front of the piece, her breathing slowing. “This… was done today?”
“Yes,” Aiden whispered. “By Kai.”
Mrs. Hale spoke softly. “This is so good. They’re just like Rowan’s paintings.” Hearing that, Rowan scoffed, as Mrs. Hale turned to him.
“Rowan… I don’t know why you despise Kai so much, but he’s human, and he can feel pain too.”
Rowan swallowed.
Still, his voice stayed hard. “Pain doesn’t give him permission to invade my life.”
Aiden kept the canvases and stepped closer to Rowan. “Stop this… now,” he muttered.
“So, how did the meeting go?” Mrs. Hale suddenly asked, catching them off guard.
“It went well,” Rowan replied coldly. Aiden stared, confused, then forced a smile.
“We’ll finalize the deal soon. They love the design,” Aiden added.
Mrs. Hale smiled, then her eyes returned to Aiden’s cheek.
“Aiden, come with me. Let’s treat that,” she said, heading for the door.
Rowan stepped aside as she passed.
They expected it. Every time they had a scratch, she never wasted time pulling out her medical kit. She had once been a nurse before choosing fashion. She hated seeing injuries around her.
“You’re just making matters worse. We need to tell her the truth,” Aiden urged.
Rowan exhaled and nodded, his jaw still tight.
“She likes Kai’s canvas. Maybe she’ll agree to show the design to the Rodriguez's,” Aiden suggested.
“Hell no. Don’t dare say that. You’ll only make things worse,” Rowan said coldly, shutting the door behind him.
They returned to the living room, where Mrs. Hale sat with an antiseptic spray and a bandage in hand. They noticed Kai had quietly returned, sitting far on the couch; tense and silent. Rowan stopped, standing protectively close to his mother, his gaze locked on Kai.
Aiden sat down as Mrs. Hale sprayed his cheek and wrapped the bandage.
“All good,” she said, about to rise.
“Mum,” Aiden called.
She turned back. “Yes?”
“We have something to tell you.”
“I think you need to take a seat first,” Mrs. Hale suggested.Rowan exhaled slowly, pausing for a brief moment before pulling out a chair and sitting down.“I’m all ears,” he replied, setting the tray carefully on the table as he settled.“Umm…” Mrs. Hale hesitated, her gaze fixed on Rowan’s hardened expression.“Is there a problem?” Rowan asked, his tone laced with quiet concern.“We’ve decided that it’s best Kai stays with us for now…”Aiden swallowed hard, bracing himself for Rowan’s reaction, but to his surprise, none came.“Why am I being informed?” Rowan asked instead, his fist tightening at his side as he met Kai’s gaze.“What do you mean?” Mrs. Hale asked, confusion creeping into her voice.Rowan nodded faintly, forcing restraint over the frustration building within him.“You’ve already made the decision… so why involve me?” His voice carried a subtle bitterness.“That’s not what I meant,” Mrs. Hale began, but Rowan had already risen to his feet, his hands gripping the tray.“
“I meant… perhaps, with time, he’ll remember,” Aiden said, his tone steady, though a hint of uncertainty lingered beneath it.“That’s exactly what the doctor said,” Mrs. Hale exhaled softly, relief and worry entwined in her voice.“So… what’s the next step?” Aiden asked, curiosity threading through his calm demeanor.“Well,” she began, pausing briefly, “I think it’s best he stays with us for now. Perhaps something here will trigger his memories, maybe something about his family.”Aiden nodded. “Alright.”“Fine, but don’t let Rowan find out about this.”“He won’t hear a word,” Aiden assured.“Good.” She let out a breath, and the call ended.Aiden stared at his laptop for a moment before returning to his work, though his mind clearly wasn’t in it.*Hours later*Rowan finished reviewing his documents, setting them aside before shutting his laptop. Without a second thought, he grabbed his things and headed out, driving home alone.Aiden, however, remained behind.By the time he finally wr
“I… I slammed my palm on a table earlier,” Aiden lied as Mrs. Hale examined his hand.“You shouldn’t have done that,” Mrs. Hale exhaled, picking up the scissors.“I’m sorry,” Aiden muttered.“Sit. I have to treat that too,” she added, using the scissor to grab a small portion of cotton wool before applying oil to it. She gently rubbed it on Kai’s cheek and placed a bandage over it.Then she did the same for Aiden.“Get to your rooms, it’s already late,” Mrs. Hale warned before leaving for her room.“I’m glad it worked,” Aiden sighed.“Sure…” Kai paused as a smile curled on his lips. “But you’re a good liar,” he added.A faint smile formed on Aiden’s lips as he walked upstairs, with Kai following behind him.He got to his room and collapsed on his bed, staring at the ceiling as Rowan’s words echoed in his head:If I had been told that my own twin brother would frame me just to protect a stranger he barely even knows… I wouldn’t have believed it.“Was I that bad?” he muttered, then reca
“Wait, Rowan!” Aiden called, but he didn’t answer.Rowan clenched his fist as he was about to knock on their mother's room, but Aiden pushed him just in time. Rowan almost fell to the ground, but Aiden held him, and they collapsed into each other, the sound loud.“You can tell Mum,” Aiden said as Rowan lay on him.“Watch me,” Rowan answered coldly as he rose to his feet. Just then, the room door creaked open and Mrs. Hale stepped out in her pajamas.“What’s going on? Aren’t you both asleep?” she pressed as a smirk curled on Rowan's lips.“How can we be asleep when Aiden is busy frolicking with Kai? Mum, you won’t believe I met them kissing,” Rowan announced as Aiden tightened his jaw but remained silent.“They can do that,” Mrs. Hale muttered, wiping her sleepy eyes.“Mom, you didn’t hear me properly. I said I caught them kissing, It happened right in front of me,” Rowan explained.Mrs. Hale yawned sleepily, then turned to Aiden. “Did you do that with Kai?” she asked.Aiden remained s
“Please, I’m Kai, and I don’t know who Rida is. I have never heard that name before,” Kai said, as Rowan angrily slammed his hands on the table, causing it to vibrate.“Don’t lie to me!” he thundered, and Kai trembled, his heart pounding violently.“I’m Kai…” Before he could finish, Rowan cut him off with a slap.“Ahh!” Kai groaned, clutching his cheek. “Please, you have the wrong person. I’m Kai,” he gasped.“That slap was only the beginning. If you don’t admit you’re Rida, I’ll keep hitting you,” Rowan said, his voice echoing sharply.Just then, Aiden stepped out of his room after hearing Rowan’s raised voice. He rushed downstairs and witnessed Rowan deliver another slap to Kai’s other cheek.“Tell me now,” Rowan pressed, but Kai held both cheeks, tears streaming down his face as Aiden clenched his fists.“I’m Kai… please…” Just then Rowan raised his hand again, ready to strike, but froze as Aiden’s voice reverberated through the room.“Rowan!” he thundered, his jaw tightening as Ro
“Please, ma’am… please, I really have to stay here, please.” Kai begged.“I’m so sorry, but this is for your own good. You have to remain in the hospital,” Mrs. Hale explained.“Yes, do you think you can fool us? Get the hell out of here,” Rowan blurted out.“Please, I honestly have to remain here. I’ll do anything you want, please let me remain in your house,” Kai pleaded.“Kai, it’s not that I don’t want you in my home, but this is for your own good, for your medical observation,” Mrs. Hale added.“Mom, what’s the point of explaining? Let him just get out of our house,” Rowan spat as Aiden shot him an angry look.“What’s your problem? Let him speak for himself,” Aiden snapped.“Please, ma'am, I know I haven’t regained my memory, but please, I would love to remain in your house for the meantime… or even forever.”“Never!!” Rowan cut in.“I don’t know who my family are, but since I’ve been in this house, I would love to remain here. Please accept me for now, and once I regain my memor
Slowly, Kai helped Aiden to his feet, steadying him, but their hands lingered a second longer than necessary before they finally pulled away.“Are you okay?” Kai asked quietly.“I’m fine,” Aiden cleared his throat, stepping back with care. “Thanks.”Kai nodded, sliding his hands stylishly into his
Rowan continued pacing around his office.“What’s this?” Aiden asked, arching a brow. “You searched for… who’s Rida Rage?”“That’s him,” Rowan said, suddenly turning to face Aiden, his shoes tapping restlessly against the floor.“So?” Aiden rose to his feet. “I see you aren’t ready to talk now.
