Liora's POV

Morning light crept through the blinds, bright and cold.

Liora moved through her small apartment quietly, careful not to wake the children. She buttoned her white blouse with slow, tired fingers. Her mind wasn’t on the meeting — it was on the message from last night.

Jasper’s words still echoed softly in her head.

“Get some rest, Liora.”

The way he’d said her name made her chest feel tight, like something fragile was waking up inside her.

She sighed, tying her hair up neatly. “It’s just a normal day,” she told herself.

But it didn’t feel normal.

Jonathan stirred on the couch. “Mama?” he mumbled sleepily.

She smiled faintly, kneeling beside him. “Sleep, baby. Mami will come watch you soon, okay?”

He nodded, half-asleep. The little girl rolled over beside him, clutching the edge of the blanket.

Liora brushed a strand of hair from her face and grabbed her bag.

It was time to face the day — and Jasper.

The office was unusually bright when she arrived.

People moved around with a quiet rush — printers humming, phones ringing, shoes tapping on the polished floor. The smell of coffee filled the air.

Liora walked in calmly, keeping her head down.

But she could already feel it — his presence.

Jasper was there.

He stood near the conference room, hands in his pockets, talking with one of the team leads. His dark suit fit perfectly, his expression focused, distant. But the moment his eyes found her, everything slowed.

Just for a second.

Liora froze.

It wasn’t dramatic — no one else noticed. But something unspoken passed between them.

Recognition. Memory. Last night’s quiet words.

“Good morning, Miss Gray,” Jasper said finally, his tone smooth but slightly softer than usual.

“Good morning,” she replied, keeping her voice calm. She walked past him to her desk, pretending not to feel the warmth that crept up her neck.

He turned back to his conversation, but Liora could tell he wasn’t really listening. His eyes flicked toward her every few moments.

The meeting started shortly after.

The large glass room was filled with quiet chatter and shuffling papers. Liora sat at one end of the table, notebook open, pen poised. Jasper sat at the head, his expression composed, unreadable.

“Alright,” he began. “Let’s review the Tokyo proposal.”

His voice was steady, professional. But whenever he looked at her, it softened — barely noticeable, yet real.

As she presented the report, she could feel his gaze on her.

Not cold. Not sharp. Just there.

Watching. Listening.

When she stumbled slightly over a line of data, he didn’t interrupt.

He waited.

A small nod from him was all it took for her to find her rhythm again.

By the end of the presentation, the room was silent for a moment — then filled with murmured approval.

“Excellent work,” Jasper said finally, his gaze meeting hers. “As always.”

A few people clapped quietly. Liora just nodded, hiding a faint smile.

When the meeting ended, most of the staff left quickly, talking among themselves. Liora gathered her papers, but Jasper’s voice stopped her.

“Miss Gray,” he said softly.

She turned. “Yes, sir?”

He walked closer, stopping just a few feet away. The morning light from the window cut across his face, highlighting the calm but tired look in his eyes.

“You didn’t look well yesterday,” he said quietly. “I hope you’re taking care of yourself.”

Her lips parted slightly. “I’m fine. Just—just a bit tired.”

He studied her for a moment, then nodded. “If it ever gets too much… you can tell me.”

Liora blinked, unsure what to say. Jasper wasn’t one to offer comfort. Not like that.

She forced a small smile. “Thank you. But I’ll manage.”

He hesitated for a second longer, then his usual calm expression returned. “Good. I’ll expect your update on the expansion plan by Friday.”

“Yes, sir.”

She turned to leave, but his voice stopped her again.

“Liora,” he said quietly — not Miss Gray, but Liora.

She froze.

He looked down briefly, his tone almost too soft. “Don’t forget your notebook again.”

Her lips curved slightly despite herself. “I won’t.”

She walked out before he could see the faint smile tugging at her mouth.

Back at her desk, she exhaled slowly. Her heart was beating too fast for something so small.

Around her, the office buzzed with normal sounds — typing, laughter, phones ringing. But to her, everything felt different.

For the first

time in a long while, the tension she carried didn’t feel like fear.

It felt like something waking up.

Morning came too softly, as if the world itself didn’t want to disturb her.Liora woke to the faint hum of city noise outside her window. For a moment, she lay still, staring at the ceiling. The events of the previous night replayed in her mind—Jasper’s voice on the phone, quiet but steady, the way his words had lingered long after she hung up.He’d said her name like it meant something. And that was the problem. She sighed and sat up, running a hand through her hair. The apartment felt too small, too heavy with secrets. Jonathan was still asleep, curled up against his blanket. The girl—Elara, as she’d finally whispered her name—was awake, sitting by the window and watching the sun climb slowly between buildings.“You’re up early,” Liora said softly.Elara turned and smiled a little. “Couldn’t sleep.”Liora nodded, walking to the kitchen to make coffee. “Me neither.”The smell filled the air, warm and grounding, but her thoughts stayed tangled. She knew she had to go back—to the offic

The morning light crept softly through the curtains, warm but hesitant — like it, too, was afraid to touch the silence that filled the apartment. Liora sat on the edge of her bed, shoulders slightly hunched, her eyes fixed on the floor. Her coffee had gone cold in her hands. She hadn’t taken a sip.Last night had been long.Too long.Jonathan had finally fallen asleep close to dawn, curled beside her, one arm wrapped around his bear. The little girl was still asleep in the small room across the hall, her breathing steady and soft. Everything looked peaceful on the surface. But inside, Liora’s wolf was restless — pacing, growling low in her chest, sensing danger that wasn’t yet visible. She rubbed her temple, forcing herself to breathe evenly. She couldn’t afford to break down — not in front of her son, not with the stranger child still under her care. She had to be strong. She had to pretend that things were normal.Normal.She almost laughed.Nothing about her life was normal anymore

The office was quiet that night.Too quiet. The building usually buzzed with life—phones ringing, printers running, footsteps echoing along the marble floor. But now, only the hum of the air conditioner and the faint tapping of Liora’s keyboard filled the silence. Most of the staff had gone home hours ago. The city lights outside painted silver lines across the glass walls, stretching over her desk where piles of files still waited. It was almost midnight, but Liora couldn’t bring herself to leave. Her body was tired, but her mind wouldn’t rest. She had been typing for minutes without really seeing the words on her screen. Her thoughts kept drifting—to Jonathan, to the little girl, to Mami. And to the strange scent that had followed her again that morning. It had been faint, barely there, but enough to make her wolf stir uneasily under her skin.Something was moving again.Something she couldn’t see.She rubbed her neck and leaned back on her chair, staring at the empty hallway outside

Morning came slowly, stretching itself across the skyline of the city. The light filtered through the glass walls of the tall building, painting faint gold lines across Jasper’s office. The air smelled faintly of paper, ink, and coffee — everything he usually loved about a quiet start. But today, it all felt heavier.Jasper sat behind his desk, staring at his computer screen, though the words on it refused to form sentences. His eyes traced the same line three times before he sighed and leaned back in his chair. His tie was loosened, his sleeves rolled up, but even the comfort of that couldn’t ease the quiet storm brewing in his head.He hadn’t meant to call her.Not last night. Not after hours. But when he saw her name pop up on his task list earlier that evening, something in him reacted before logic did.Liora.Her name still lingered on his tongue like an unspoken thought. He rubbed his temple and tried to focus on the project reports stacked on his desk. Everything around him scr

Morning came too fast. The soft hum of Lagos traffic floated through the half-open window, mixed with the faint smell of Mami’s tea boiling in the kitchen. Liora turned on her side, eyes still half-closed. Jonathan was curled up beside her, sleeping with his small fist resting against her arm.For a few seconds, everything was calm. Peaceful.Until she remembered the message. She sat up slowly, blinking as last night’s words flashed in her mind:“Don’t forget to rest.”Jasper.Her boss. The last person she expected to send anything like that. Her heart gave a small, nervous flutter. It wasn’t a love text, of course — just four simple words — but somehow, it felt heavier than it should.Personal. Caring. Unusual. She rubbed her temple, scolding herself softly. “Don’t overthink it, Liora. He’s just… being nice.”Still, she couldn’t help checking her phone again before getting up. The message was still there. No follow-up. No emoji. Just his name and those four words.Mami looked up from

The office was almost empty when Liora stepped out.The hall lights were dim, casting long shadows on the polished floor. Her heels clicked softly as she walked toward the elevator, clutching her bag to her side. The echo of Jasper’s words still lingered in her mind. “Don’t let it break you.”She sighed quietly as she stepped into the elevator. It felt strange hearing something like that from him. Jasper was always the strict type — calm, confident, impossible to read. But tonight, he sounded... human. The elevator doors closed, and for the first time that day, she let herself lean against the wall. Her head ached. Her eyes burned from staring at her screen too long. She hadn’t even eaten since lunch. When the doors opened, cool air rushed in from the lobby. The security guard by the exit nodded. “Goodnight, Miss Gray.”“Goodnight,” she said with a small smile.Outside, the night was calm. The city lights blinked against the dark sky, and cars moved lazily through the street. She pul
