Chapter 2: Useless & Queen
-
William forced a smile, holding out his hand, which the woman took with much strength as he helped her down the stairs. "Mother, you look extraordinary as always." Her smile was tight, she took her hand from his, walking towards the dining hall.
"Let's eat." Darius watched everyone strolled into the dining hall, he waited on Amoy and her father, while she scolded him, expressing her disappointment, it was quite amusing since he was the one who should have been doing that, the roles were always switched with them.
Before her father even had a chance to speak she walked away going into the dining hall, Darius and William followed closely behind her, "She's angry at me."
"I saw that," Darius said as they separated, he sat right of Amoy while William sat on her left.
"Thank you all for joining me today."
"Grandmother, I understand why you invited us, but why are they here?" Trinity inquired disgust laced in her tone like the very people she was talking about weren't her family.
"It was what your grandfather wanted." Amoy's sister scoffs.
"Why on earth would he want that?"
"As you know the Tyler organisation has been in this family for four generations and I intend to make it five. So with that being said, my grandchildren will have the chance to inherit the business." Everyone began talking shocked and angry.
"You're skipping a whole generation, mother." William's sister Paula states.
"You all are getting old." William scoffs softly offended, making Darius amused. "We need to see the world through fresh eyes, but you will guide and help them whatever way you can. There will be a ranking, Shawn read this now." She handed her butler the paper, he cleared his throat before reading.
"Olivia is first on the rank, Trinity second, Thomas third, Paul fourth, Zavana fifth and Amoy sixth."
"Amoya is on the list and Nick isn't?! This is preposterous!" Lin exclaimed.
"Lin, refrain from such outbursts, believe me, I'm as upset about this as you are." Darius's eyes moved to Amoy who looked emotionless as she had a soft smile on her face, she didn't look offended one bit as she was used to this treatment.
"This wasn't my doing, it was your grandfather if it were up to me, she and her useless husband wouldn't be a part of this family." Darius's face was neutral as he was used to all the insults, Amoy's grandmother, Elizabeth, would throw his way, but when he acted like he didn't care, it aggravated her more.
"Useless poor man, I'm not surprised father set her up with him," Trinity admits, his eyes moved to Amoy she was trying to keep her emotions in as she forced a smile.
"He smells like the stables," Thomas said nose scrunching up, this made Elizabeth angrier.
"My stables? I told you to keep him out of there Amoy!"
"I was just-" Darius started but Amoy stopped.
"Darius, don't talk to her, I'll handle it," she whispered to him.
"Grandmother, I thought you meant he could go in there to feed the horses." Elizabeth scoffs.
"You're deaf and dense." This comment made everyone whisper amongst themselves amused, Amoy kept the smile on her face.
"Shawn continue."
"Each of you will be given various challenges whoever obtains the most points will become the CEO of the family organization." This caught everyone's attention. "Whoever has the least points will be banished and forgotten."
"We all know who will be forgotten," Trinity commented her cousins laughed softly looking at Amoy.
"The first challenge starts tomorrow, Shawn, bring dinner." Her butler did as told called the maids to carry out the food, soon the table was stacked with food.
They all waited for Elizabeth to eat so they could, William scoffs softly as he watched his mother took her time. "This woman and her rules, she acts as if she is the queen of bloody England." Darius laughs quietly he even saw Amoy smile turn real.
"Grandfather treated her like one, so she acts like one and she does have the name." William chuckles.
"I guess I should blame the old man for this." He said watching as Elizabeth took up her spoon putting in the soup. "I swear I've seen snail move faster than this, I had no idea she was getting this old." Amoy smiles.
"Careful dad, someone might just hear you." They watched as she finally took a sip, William devoured his food in an instant.
"William stop that vicious act at once! You're no worst than that poor excuse of a husband you chose for your daughter." His mother scolded him, he frowns wiping his mouth standing up.
"Mother answer this, where did you live before you met father?" The woman stayed quiet making him laugh, but no humour was heard. "That's what I thought, if you will excuse me, I'll be taking my dinner up to my room, do enjoy your night." He left before anyone could stop him.
Darius's eyes met Elizabeth she frowns. "What are you looking at you uncultured swine!" He couldn't believe he had actually pitied this woman for a moment.
"No wonder you and Amoy make such a perfect match." Lin joined.
"You should follow William and leave, it would be the perfect time to practise for your soon to be banishment," Zavana added, Amoy sighs getting up.
"I should get some rest, enjoy your night grandmother." Darius moved out of his seat following behind her.
While they walked to their room his eyes searched her face, checking for any sign of anger or sadness, but there was none as she kept her face stone cold.
"Why are you looking at me?" She asked as they entered their room.
"Aren't you mad about what they said?" Amoy shrugs letting out a sigh once again, taking off her heels.
"I'm used to it."
"You shouldn't be used to that." She smiled going to the bathroom he did the same watching as she took out her diamond earrings.
"You are."
"That's different, I've only been married to you for a few months and you've been living like this for 24 years 25 soon." He said taking off his jacket.
"Mhm, but when you've been here as long as I have and they tell you you're not good enough, you'll realize you're just something they've never seen before and that scares them." He smiled softly, that was the longest sentence she had ever spoken, to him at least. "I'll be out in a few minutes, they were right about one thing, you do smell like the stables." He chuckled, leaving the bathroom, she closed the door behind him.

- Chapter 28: Eat & Code - Darius's P.O.V When we got home Amoy immediately went upstairs while speaking to someone on the phone. “How long has she been like that?” Xavier asked as he entered the room. “The entire car ride over. Do you think the news will blow over?” He shrugged letting out a sigh. “I’m not sure. Maybe.” The uncertainty in his voice told me this would probably go on for weeks. “Did you make breakfast? She hasn’t eaten all day.” He shook his head. “I was just about to go out and meet a friend, but I can—” I stopped him as I offered him a smile.
- Chapter 27: Headline & Drained - Darius P.O.V I woke up the next day with arms around my body, I smiled down at Amoy who slept peacefully beside me. This was probably the first time I’ve seen her so relaxed besides last night. I reached for my phone to check the time. It was 7 AM, shocking me. Amoy was usually up before 5 or 6, I wondered how long she stayed out on the balcony. I slowly and quietly removed her hands off me, replacing my body with a pillow before going into the bathroom, taking a shower and brushing my teeth. I was in the bathroom for a good 15 minutes
- Chapter 26: Favour & Tip - Darius's P.O.V Dinner went on without a hitch, I was a little surprised Elizabeth hadn't tried to insult me or Amoy. Maybe the discovery of her most prized grandchild's company going bankrupt left her more flush than she was willing to admit. I silently watched as everyone gathered around the piano watching Olivia play a sweet melody. She was also another one of Amoy's competitors, I only knew so little of her, though her parents, Joseph and Kayla never stopped bragging about her fashion business. They said she dressed celebrities like Rihanna and Taylor. I had to admit though I barely spoke to her, she seemed down to earth and friendly, I mean in this family someone who didn't speak to you was as friendly as you could get. My eyes went to the rest of my wife's competition. Zavana stood next to O
- Chapter 25: Guess & Useless - Darius zipped his suitcase close, before bringing it downstairs where Amoy, William and Xavier were engaged in a conversation, but they all turned to him, hearing his footsteps and his suitcase against the stairs. “Good morning.” He greeted them tiredly, they all responded. Amoy’s eyes lingered on him for a second before returning her attention to her father. “That’s what this whole trip is about? Who told you this?” Amoy interrogated her father, he didn’t seem to mind as he spoke. “Shawn, the butler.” “So the men will be tested for 4 days?” He nodded, catching Darius’s attention, “What’s goin
- Chapter 24: No & Thoughts - Darius sat in his chair, still not knowing what to write; it was as if he had all the words but couldn’t put them into words. He had promised himself that today was the day he was gonna finally put his hands and mind to work and write something good that he could be proud of, even though it wouldn't be his best work, it would be something to remember. Closing his eyes thought of every possible line he could begin with, but they all just didn’t seem to be enough. He sighed, hearing a knock on his door, he expected to see Xavier, but instead, Amoy entered his room, with a tray with dinner on it. “This is the last thing I expected you’d be doing,” Darius stated as she placed the tray on his
- Chapter 23: Space & Daniel - It was the next day, Darius was growing nervous about what today had in store for him...what she had in store for him. After the kitchen incident, they had both parted ways but Amoy had never left his mind. She was like a hangover after a party. He had already showered and gotten dressed but he still needed to go down for breakfast the task seemed almost impossible as his mind made up a thousand scenarios, before he could think about it further his phone began to hang. Darius took it from the bedside table reading the I.D caller, 'Emerald' He hadn't heard from her in days, he was a little worried but he knew she was alright and the call confirmed it. “Emerald, how are you?” He asked sitting up, on his bed
