CHAPTER FIFTY THREE

I jolt, my breath hitching. My hand reaches for the phone immediately, pulse racing, fear and hope colliding violently in my chest.

It’s from Mia.

Her reply is short.

*Oh, been busy.*

That’s it.

No explanation.

No concern.

No apology.

I stare at the screen for a long moment, then lock my phone without responding.

Whatever this is, I’m done chasing answers from people who clearly don’t want to give them.

This is the point

  • THE KING’S UNWANTED BABY MAMA    Chapter seventy six

CHAPTER SEVENTY SIX I follow the man down the corridor, ignoring Linda’s sharp remarks trailing behind me like poison tipped arrows. Her voice fades with every step, but the tension coils tighter in my chest. What the hell does Jake want from me? And what promotion is she even talking about? My palms are damp as we step into the elevator. The doors slide shut, sealing me inside a rising cage of glass and steel. The ascent feels too fast, my thoughts racing ahead of me, colliding with memories I don’t even want to talk about. We got to the top floor. The elevator stops. The door open. The man gestures politely and leads me down a quiet hallway that smells of polish and flowery plant. When we reach the office, he opens the door for me and steps aside, remaining outside. I walk in. And there he is. Jake Hilton. Seated comfortably behind the desk, my desk—like he owns the air in the room. Life is funny. Twisted. Cruel in the most calculated ways. For a brief, m

  • THE KING’S UNWANTED BABY MAMA    Chapter seventy five

CHAPTER SEVENTY FIVE ADRIAN’S POV We move from one production department to another, deeper into the heart of the refinery. The noise is constant, metal grinding against metal, machines roaring like beasts that never sleep. The heat is suffocating even with the protective gear on. I watch the men work, their movements fast, precise, exhausted. They work like soldiers in a war they never chose. And yet they are treated like slaves. I see rusted pipes held together with temporary seals. Worn-out gauges. Cracked metal patched instead of replaced. Everywhere I look, corners have been cut, lives traded for profit. “These metals are low quality,” I say sharply, running a gloved hand over a corroded surface. One of the workers nods bitterly. “Yes, my king. Almost everything here is substandard.” Another speaks up, his voice muffled behind his mask. “Pipes burst almost every day. Last week, hot chemicals spilled on a man’s skin. He screamed for hours.” My stomach twis

  • THE KING’S UNWANTED BABY MAMA    Chapter seventy four

CHAPTER SEVENTY FOUR Early morning light creeps through the curtains, soft and pale, cutting through the quiet of the room. The day ahead is going to be brutal. I reach for my phone. My thumb moves on instinct, opening the hidden account, the one I use only for her. Melissa never posts updates. Just old pictures. Still, I scroll like something new might suddenly appear. Why do I keep watching her from the shadows? I switch back to my main account, irritation crawling under my skin. I was stupid for blocking her. Completely stupid. Anger pushed me there, but I should never have done it. The thought irritates me deeply. Being betrayed twisted something inside me. It turned me into a petty man, and I hate that truth more than I admit. A knock breaks my thoughts. The door opens without waiting for permission. Of course, it’s Chris. He and Nicholas are the only ones allowed into my private room. “Good morning, Your Majesty,” Chris says respectfully. “I hope you

  • THE KING’S UNWANTED BABY MAMA    Chapter seventy three

CHAPTER SEVENTY THREE I send a brief message to my PA. Chris, take the woman to another room. Have her freshen up. Keep the lights dim. I’m not using this suite. Because this room is not just a room. Melissa is the only woman I have ever allowed within these walls. I change into something simple, dark trousers, and a black hoodie, nothing royal, nothing heavy. I ask for drinks to be brought up, but I start drinking before they arrive. Slowly. Thoughtfully. Each sip burns its way down my throat, dulling memories I don’t want to feel tonight. Eventually, my phone vibrates. *She’s ready and waiting.* I pull a face cap low over my eyes and take the elevator because the room is below. I prefer not to be seen. When I enter, the air is thick, perfume, anticipation, dim lighting casting shadows across silk and skin. She is already sprawled across the bed, confident, posed, her body arranged like an offering. Lingerie clings where it should, revealing enough to pro

  • THE KING’S UNWANTED BABY MAMA    Chapter seventy two

CHAPTER SEVENTY TWO ADRIAN’S POV The voice continues, sharp and hurried. “We will have to—” The words die in the air. “Good day, Your Majesty. I trust you have been well.” I turn, already schooling my expression. Queen Ravenna stands behind me, composed and regal, her presence commanding silence. Her eyes are observant, intelligent—too sharp to miss anything. I let out a soft chuckle. “I have been well, my queen. And yourself?” “I am fine,” she answers, her gaze lingering on me for a moment longer than necessary. Footsteps rustle nearby. Katerina and her lady-in-waiting, Cassia, step out from their hiding place. Shock flashes across Katerina’s face before she masks it. Her hand immediately settles on her swollen belly, fingers splayed protectively. “My king,” she says, her voice trembling just enough to sound sincere. “What are you doing here?” I tilt my head, unimpressed. “Isn’t that an odd question? This entire palace belongs to me. Be

  • THE KING’S UNWANTED BABY MAMA    Chapter seventy one

CHAPTER SEVENTY ONE I let out a painful, bitter laugh that echoes off the walls of the suite. Did he just… call me Mel? His voice, low, hoarse, impossibly affectionate, cuts through the tense silence of the suite. Jake’s voice is low, hoarse, heavy with something I can’t identify. Surprise? Regret? Desire? I don’t know, and I don’t want to. My hands tremble slightly as I clutch the bracelet, like it anchors me to a past I swore I would never revisit. "I want to go back to my work." I say. His voice comes again, softer this time, almost a whisper: “I… I’m sorry.” I freeze. Did he really just say that? After everything? After the lies, the betrayal, the nights I cried myself into exhaustion, the public disgrace he helped orchestrate? No. No. I cannot forgive him. I will never forgive him. And yet, I find myself staring at him. He’s still on his knees, head slightly bowed, a storm of conflicting emotions in his eyes that mirror the chaos inside me. My ch
