RHEA'S POV:

Kaia managed to convince me to speak to the Guen Pack Elders. I really hope they don't say something that will make me regret my decision.

The storm hits just after dawn. Not in the sky, but in the air, in the energy that ripples through the packhouse walls. It's in the way Rowan's jaw tightens as he thinks. Probably of a way out of this situation.

In the tremble of Kaia's fingers as she laces her boots. In the silence that follows every question she can't bring herself to ask.

We sit in the largest room of the packhouse. The meeting hall. Windows open to the forest, letting in the scent of pine and smoke and something relaxing.

Rowan sits at the head, arms folded across his chest, his Alpha energy pulsing in low waves, steady but tense.

RHEA'S POV: Kaia managed to convince me to speak to the Guen Pack Elders. I really hope they don't say something that will make me regret my decision. The storm hits just after dawn. Not in the sky, but in the air, in the energy that ripples through the packhouse walls. It's in the way Rowan's jaw tightens as he thinks. Probably of a way out of this situation. RHEA'S POV: To say that my night was terrible would be an understatement. I couldn't close my eyes for more than ten minutes. So I'm on my way to do what will get me my peace back. The sun barely crests the horizon, casting a pale gold color over the treetops when I slip from the packhouse. My legs ache, but I move like I’m being summoned. Maybe I am. The memory of the dragon's golden eyes sears the inside of my skull, like looking into the sun too long and still seeing it behind your eyelids. The woods welcome me again, quieter than yesterday, more reverent. Even the birds seem to hold their breath. There's barely any chirping.I find her exactly where I left her, curled like a question mark in the hollow beneath the vines. The blood has congealed into dark patches beneath her, but she is still. Breathing but barely. "I came back," I whisper, stepping into the hollow. One eye opens but slower this time, dimmer. I drop to my knees beside her, the moss soaking through

RHEA’S POV:I don’t run. I walk in slow, deliberate steps, drawn deeper into the woods as if the night itself has coiled fingers around my wrist, urging me forward. The glowing eyes are gone, but the pull remains. Stronger now, heavier. It hums beneath my skin, not painful, but ancient. Familiar in a way that makes no sense. Leaves crunch beneath my boots, damp and fragrant. A single branch snags my sleeve, but I don’t stop. I should turn back, I know I should. Whatever is ahead isn't safe. I can feel the magic thickening in the air like fog, clinging to my lungs, my thoughts.Still, I press on. Then I see it. A dip in the forest floor, almost hidden beneath a canopy of twisted roots and sagging vines. A hollow, sunken like a forgotten cradle. And curled inside, gods help me, is a creature I’ve only read about in whispers of old texts, seen sketched in the pages of fae prophecies I never believed were real.A dragon. My breath catches, hitching painfully in my chest.

KAIA’S POV: The ceremonial robe clings to my skin, the fabric cool against my flushed body. Moonlight filters through the high windows, casting ethereal patterns on the stone floor. I adjust the clasp on my shoulder, fingers trembling, not from the chill, but from the weight of the moment. Today is the alliance ceremony and I'm ready to get this over and done with as soon as possible. Across the room, Kai stands before a mirror, his reflection as tense as mine. He catches my eye and offers a tentative smile."You look... radiant," he says, voice barely above a whisper. I attempt a smile in return, but it falters. "And you look like you're about to face a firing squad." He chuckles, the sound strained. "Feels about right."A knock interrupts our moment. Rowan enters, his expression grim. "Apologies for the intrusion," he begins, "but we've detected unusual magical surges in the deep forest. Uncharted and... unsettling." I straighten, concern replacing my nerves. "Do

Axel’s POV: The woods are quiet when I return... too quiet. As if they are mourning my loss. The guards at the gate don’t stop me. One of them looks away, and the other just gives a tight nod. I nod back, wordless. What do you say when you feel betrayed your family, your pack, your mate?Mate. The word feels hollow now. Kaia isn’t mine. Not anymore. Maybe she never was. I walk the worn path toward the main house, every step heavy with memories. Then I met Kaia. Then the moon goddess chose wrong. Lucien lies in the infirmary now, still and silent like death is waiting just behind the veil. I am actually scared for him. Kaia… she hasn't even looked at me once since they came back. I step inside the building. It smells like antiseptic and sorrow. I pause outside Lucien’s room, hand on the doorframe. My heart is thudding so loudly it’s a wonder no one hears it. I’m not ready to see her but I have to. It’s the only thing I can do that still feels right. Kaia’s in

AUTHOR'S NOTE: THANKS FOR COMING THIS FAR. I FEEL REALLY BAD FOR AXEL. ENJOY!KAIA’S POV: The full moon hangs like a silver wound in the sky, bleeding light down onto the clearing behind the Guen Pack house. But seriously, it looks red as fuck. Everything feels quieter tonight, like the world is holding its breath, waiting. So am I. I stand barefoot in a white slip dress that clings to my skin, the grass cool and damp beneath my toes. My fingers tremble where they rest at my sides. Around me, a ring of lit torches throws flickering shadows across the trees. The pack forms a wide circle, silent witnesses to what’s about to happen. To my right, Kai stands shirtless, bare-chested beneath the moon, his eyes locked on mine. There's a quiet storm in them; raw, controlled, but burning. I feel it like a magnet tugging at my soul. And to my left, Axel watches. Oh, Axel... He stands just outside the torchlight, hidden in half-shadow. His face gives nothing away, but I k
