Amelia finished breakfast in silence.

The dining room was too large for one person, its long polished table reflecting the soft morning light streaming in through tall glass windows. The maids moved quietly around her, efficient and distant, as if afraid to disturb the stillness that always followed her

in this mansion. Even the clinking of cutlery sounded louder than it should have.

When she was done, Amelia wiped her lips gently with a napkin and stood up.

“Thank you,” she murmured out of habit, though none of the maids met her eyes.

She returned to her room with a strange heaviness in her chest.

The day stretched endlessly ahead of her, empty and dull. Ricardo was gone—always gone—and the mansion felt like a beautifully decorated cage. Hours passed as she wandered from room to room, flipping through magazines she didn’t care about, staring out of the windows at the perfectly trimmed garden below, lying on her bed only to stare at the ceiling again.

By noon, boredom had settled deep into her bones.

This was her life now, she thought bitterly. A contract wife with nothing to do but exist quietly.

By afternoon, Amelia could no longer stand the suffocating silence. She picked up her phone and stared at Bianca’s name for a long moment before typing.

Are you free today? I really need to see you.

The reply came almost instantly.

Always. Where?

A small smile tugged at Amelia’s lips. Bianca had always been like this—steady, loyal, her anchor long before life became complicated. They agreed to meet at a quiet café not far from the city center, a place they had loved during their university days.

Amelia informed Miss Pat, the head housemaid, that she would be going out.

“Very well, Mrs. Hart,” Miss Pat replied with a polite nod. “Will you be returning before dinner?”

“Yes,” Amelia said softly.

Outside, the fresh air felt liberating. For the first time all day, she felt like she could breathe.

The café was warm and cozy, filled with the aroma of coffee and pastries. Bianca was already seated by the window, waving enthusiastically the moment she spotted Amelia.

“Look at you,” Bianca teased as Amelia sat down. “You look good ”

Amelia laughed weakly. “If only it felt that way.”

Bianca frowned immediately. “Okay, that doesn’t sound good. Talk to me.”

And Amelia did.

She told her everything—how the contract marriage came to be, the cold terms written neatly on paper, Ricardo’s emotional distance, the loneliness that followed her like a shadow. She spoke about the mansion, the silence, the strange feeling of being married yet utterly alone.

By the time she finished, her voice was shaking.

Bianca sat frozen, her coffee untouched.

“A contract marriage?” Bianca repeated slowly, disbelief written all over her face. “Amelia… are you serious?”

“I didn’t have a choice,” Amelia whispered. “I needed the money. It was the only way.”

Bianca leaned forward, her eyes filled with worry. “This is insane. You don’t know this man. And something about him—about this whole arrangement—doesn’t feel right.”

Amelia looked away, her fingers tightening around her cup.

“Ricardo isn’t cruel,” she said, though the words lacked conviction. “He’s just… distant.”

“That’s not comforting,” Bianca snapped gently. “Amelia, you should end this. Break the agreement while you still can. I have a bad feeling about him.”

The concern in Bianca’s eyes made Amelia’s chest ache. She reached across the table and squeezed her friend’s hand.

“I’ll be fine,” she said softly. “Really. I can handle it.”

Bianca sighed. “You always say that. You’re strong, yes—but that doesn’t mean you should suffer in silence.”

Amelia smiled faintly. “Don’t worry about me. I’ll be careful.”

They talked a little longer, about lighter things—old memories, silly jokes—but the unease lingered beneath every word. When they finally parted ways, Bianca hugged Amelia tightly, as if afraid to let her go.

“Promise me you’ll call if anything feels wrong,” Bianca said.

“I promise.”

The sun was already beginning to set when Amelia returned to the mansion.

As soon as she stepped inside, something felt… off.

The house was quieter than usual, yet charged with an unfamiliar presence. Her heels echoed against the marble floor as she walked toward the living room—and then she stopped.

A woman was sitting there.

She was beautifully dressed, her elegant gown hugging her figure perfectly, dark hair cascading over her shoulders like silk. One leg was crossed over the other as she held a glass of wine delicately in her hand, completely at ease—as if she belonged there.

The woman looked up.

Their eyes met.

Amelia’s breath caught in her throat.

There was a sharp intelligence in the woman’s gaze, mixed with something colder—something assessing. Slowly, a frown appeared on her face.

"who are you"the woman asked

The mansion suddenly felt smaller.

And for the first time since signing the contract, Amelia realized—this marriage was far more complicated than she had ever imagined

After coming downstairs, Amelia walked toward the dining room with steady, unhurried steps. The morning sunlight streamed through the tall glass windows of the mansion, casting a soft golden glow across the polished marble floors. The crystal chandelier above reflected the light in delicate fragments, scattering faint sparkles across the walls. Everything in the house was perfectly arranged, untouched by chaos or carelessness. The silence was deep but not empty—it was controlled, intentional, and absolute.Nothing was out of place. Nothing was neglected. Everything reflected order, discipline, and quiet authority. The dining table had already been prepared by the staff. Several dishes were arranged with flawless presentation, each plate positioned precisely. The aroma of freshly prepared food filled the air, warm and inviting, but Amelia showed no visible reaction to it. There had been a time when meals carried meaning, when they represented comfort or companionship. That time had lon

Ricardo sat behind the large mahogany desk in his office, his posture straight and composed as he reviewed the stack of documents in front of him. The late afternoon sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows behind him, casting long shadows across the polished floor. The city skyline stretched endlessly beyond the glass, a reminder of the empire he had spent years building. His expression was calm, but his eyes moved with sharp precision as he scanned each page. Every detail mattered. Every clause, every number, every condition. He did not allow mistakes. He did not allow carelessness. Work had become his refuge. A soft knock sounded on the door. Ricardo did not look up immediately. “Come in.” The door opened, and his assistant stepped inside, holding a tablet and a file. The assistant’s posture was respectful, but there was a hint of urgency in his expression. “Sir,” he said, “we have received confirmation from S and D Corporation.” Ricardo’s pen paused slig

Six years later.Time, which many believed could heal wounds, had instead carved Ricardo’s deeper. The world around him had changed in countless ways. New buildings rose where empty land once existed. Businesses expanded and collapsed. People entered his life and left again. Seasons passed in their endless cycle, indifferent to human grief. Yet, despite all the changes, one truth remained constant.Ricardo was still unmarried. The vast mansion he lived in remained as grand as ever, its polished floors gleaming beneath expensive chandeliers, its walls decorated with rare artwork collected over generations. But beneath the wealth and luxury, the house felt hollow. It had never truly recovered from Amelia’s absence. At first, Ricardo had believed he would find her quickly. He had resources others could only dream of. Influence. Connections. Money. Power. There were very few things in the world that he could not obtain if he truly wanted them. But Amelia was the exception. He had searched

Ricardo stood frozen in Amelia’s bedroom, the brown envelope still clutched in his hand. The Divorce Agreement, her signature, the date—it was all too real. It hit him with the weight of inevitability. She had left. She had taken control of her life in a way he had never imagined she could. And now, for the first time in his life, he felt helpless. His fingers tightened around the papers as panic slowly began to rise. He needed to reach her. He had to know where she was and is she was safe. He pulled out his phone and dialed her number instinctively. But it was wasn't going through“Switch off,” Ricardo muttered under his breath, his jaw tightening. A cold sensation spread through his chest. She had made sure he couldn’t reach her, at least not immediately. With a deep breath, he shoved the phone into his pocket and left the room. He had no plan yet, but standing still wasn’t an option. He needed to think, and thinking meant movement.Ricardo made his way outside, into the quiet drive

  • THE LOVE I GAVE HIM    Chapter 27. The Envelope at dawn

Amelia stood quietly in the dim light of her bedroom, her gaze fixed on the man sleeping on the other side of the bed. The curtains were only half drawn, allowing a faint silver glow from the moon to spill across the floor. Ricardo’s breathing was steady, deep and unguarded, his face relaxed in a way she rarely had the chance to see. In sleep, he looked younger. Softer. Vulnerable. For a fleeting second, she almost allowed herself to crawl back beside him, to press her face into his chest and pretend that nothing had changed. Pretend that last night had not been born from pain, confusion, and alcohol. Pretend that when morning came, he would wake and look at her with certainty instead of restraint. But everything had changed.Carefully, so as not to make a sound, she slid off the bed. The cool marble floor beneath her bare feet grounded her racing thoughts. She wrapped her robe tightly around herself before walking toward her dressing table. Her fingers trembled slightly as she opened

  • THE LOVE I GAVE HIM    Chapter 26. A night of silence and surrender

Amelia sat alone at the dining table, staring blankly at the untouched dishes that still remained. The once warm and inviting atmosphere had long disappeared, replaced by a suffocating silence that pressed against her chest. The faint metallic scent of blood seemed to linger in the air, though she knew it was only in her mind, a cruel reminder of what had happened just hours ago.Ricardo had rushed Stella to the hospital without hesitation. The image replayed endlessly in Amelia’s thoughts—Stella collapsing, Ricardo catching her, the panic in his voice as he called for help. And just before Stella’s body went limp, there had been that smile. A brief, cruel, victorious smile that no one else had noticed.Amelia clasped her trembling hands together on her lap, trying to steady herself. Her fingers felt cold despite the warmth of the room. She inhaled deeply, but the air felt too heavy to breathe properly, as if guilt and accusation had filled every corner of the house. She knew the trut
