Aaliyah’s POV

Iris' words cut right through my heart. I fear for how naive she is that she refuses to see that she's the one who will surely get hurt by Max if this marriage continues.

I'm not going to sit around and allow what I witnessed happen again with her.

I know she's going to be one hard nut to deal with now that I'm just going to learn how to blend into this mafia world, but I'm willing to relive its horrors if that's what is going to keep her from getting married to him.

“You should get your things if you know you really want to come along with me.” The excitement in Iris' voice hides behind her straight face and firm words.

I know she wouldn't mind me coming along with her.

I saunter out of her room, heading towards my old room just to check it out and get any other things that might be of relevance to me since I already have my things packed together.

I hear murmurs as I walk down the hallway. It immediately catches my attention as the voices echo in rumblings that I couldn't piece together.

There is no way I will let something like this pass me by. I walk closer to my dad's room, leaning on the wall as I hope to hear clearly whatever is being discussed.

“Boy, you should know your place, and Iris is given to you on a platter of Gold because I want this to settle without any more spills of blood. Don't dare me! You know I will never give you my daughter in the first place.” I hear my dad scowling as he manages to lower his voice so well.

I huff.  It wouldn't be anyone other than Max who is daring my dad. I wonder what they must be up to this time around.

“If you know you don't want more bloodshed, then you must do your part!” Max scowls back, unfretted.

It's clear something is going on between them as Max takes my dad's challenge head-on. I hate every form of audacity that he has. I have no understanding of why Iris finds so much interest in him.

“You dare try anything funny, and you'd hear from me. I know what you all are about. You…” I can feel my dad struggling as he holds back the words he wishes to say. He huffs out a scoff. “Don't dare me, Bianchi. You and your people shouldn't!”

The back and forth between my dad and Max flashes back pictures of my mum, lying in her blood and how I stood in the corner, watching without the ability to cry out loud or drop a tear for her.

I notice their conversation is coming to an end, so I saunter out of the hallway and enter my room.

It looks just exactly the way it used to be. Nothing has changed about it. The pictures, the bed. It's as though no one else was allowed to use my room at all, but it remains clean. Obviously, because the maids will not go around cleaning everywhere and leaving it unkempt.

The mirrors that hung on the wall brought flashbacks of how happy I was when Mum was alive.

We all were.

The unity of the family broke the moment she was taken from us.

The memories begin to play so roughly with my mind again. I can't help but feel the pain that I have used so many years trying to bury open up again.

I walk out of the room without taking anything, like I initially wanted to, and I walk down the stairs to get my things.

Iris is already seated in the Limo that's to take her and her things to Max's house.

I didn't see Max anywhere when I get down the stairs, and Iris' vehicle is about to leave.

“Aren’t you supposed to give me a ride too?” I yell at her, just before the vehicle swivels totally from my view.

“I don't know what the hell you were packing up that made you make me wait so long. Lucky for you, Max said he will be coming back tomorrow. They have a business to settle.” Iris' face is hidden behind the dark shades she has on, but I can see her brows arched as she speaks to me.

I watch how the other cars filled with things that call themselves guards, line up in front and behind the car as security.

Some of them have their hands out of the car, and their body is covered with tattoos that I don't find attractive.

Nonetheless, I don't see it as totally bad because I don't expect much from them anyway.

“Hey! What are you still waiting for?” Iris snaps me back into reality.

I hop into the car faster than my mind can think.

While in the car, Iris keeps adjusting my lipstick and checking her face.

She keeps requesting that the light be turned on so she can check her face and correct something on her appearance over and over.

I wonder if she has become so insecure that she doesn't realize how weird it is that she can't stay without checking if something isn't wrong with her makeup.

“Ahem…” I clear my throat to get her attention, mainly because I want to take her mind away from doing that too.

“Sorry, I know… but I don't think it's weird that Max isn't staying at home with you, at least for this first night that you'd be living with him.”

Iris pulls down her shades, and her disgusted look, with a piercing glare, meets me first before her words.

“You've been given just one rule as the reason why you're allowed to come along with me. We haven't gotten to his house, and you're trying to prove what point? Did I ask you to analyse his movements for me?” Iris speaks in a low tone but seems really pissed with me.

Chapter Fifty-OneAaliyah's POVThis is the last place I'm expecting them to be in.Actually, I thought they were about to have an attack on someone, but it doesn't seem like that's what is going to happen in an open place like this. “Can you please wait for me?” I ask the driver as I open the door. “Things might get bloody with how they are doing over here. You will really need to be careful, and you have to pay me first for getting you here straight.”“Fine, how much do you want?” I ask him, bringing out my purse so I can quickly give him the money in my purse. “One hundred and fifty bucks.” I look at him in the face again. I had not expected it to be that much, but I did not hesitate to put my hand inside my purse and hand it over to him because I know why his charge is ridiculous.“Oh, shit!” I fear what will happen as I get down to walk closer to where Max's men are to have a closer look at what's going on.I can barely see Max, but I hear his voice clearly.I run through the

  • THE MAFIA'S WRONG BRIDE    chapter 50

Chapter FiftyAaliyah's POVI watch the vehicle of Max and his guards trooping out of the estate gate completely before my taxi decides to start following after them.“These are the people we are following?” The driver asks, surprised. His voice grows in concern, like he is sure the idea of following after them isn't a good one, but he did not decide not to follow them. Instead, he adds, “You will have to pay me more if we survive following them without getting caught.”Fair deal, I think. I didn't even bother bargaining with him as we started the ride. If I had not had the opportunity of staying with Iris and Max, I sure wouldn't have been able to just take that, but I now have extra money I didn't work for, so money isn't part of any problem I am bothered about. We trail them down, and the driver seems to be skilled at it with how he avoids being directly behind them while we are on the highway but keeps trailing them close enough that we don't miss them at all. They drive into

Chapter Forty-NineAaliyah's POVDespite how mad I feel, I cannot ignore the deep interest I feel towards knowing what news exactly that Amato has to pass across to Max that makes him look that serious.I stop by the staircase to see if I could hear snippets of what their discussion was about. “Boss. The update is here already. You need to see this. We might have to move faster than we thought.”I can see through the railings as I slow down my steps. Max looks into the phone and begins to scroll slowly. The irritable scowl on his face deepens into one that is fully wicked. “Get the boys ready! Those motherfuckers! They think they can mess with me!” Max stands up from his seat, pushing the chair back with the back of his leg.Amato lifts the chair totally, allowing him to see a route to leave the dining room. I immediately walk faster and head up to my room.I need to track them down.My instincts keep telling me as much as I don't want to do that. I hear their footsteps as they

Chapter Forty-EightAaliyah's POV I grab a tissue that lies on the table and use it judiciously to clean the soap off my hands. “Ughhh! This is such a mess.” I nag as I pack up the tissue and toss it into the dustbin. Then I hear the water rushing out of the washing hand basin tap. I must have left it open.I roll my eyes as I walk back to the toilet to wash my hand with the running water and lock it. I don't know how today's going to be. I don't even know where the fuck I want to go to. I search my phone, and I find an art gallery that is opening their store. I think it might be really nice for me to feed my eyes with really nice drawings or paintings. I honestly don't know what to expect anyway. I stare at the clock and decide that I will have my bath and then prepare to leave around eleven. The way I'm not bothered about what to wear like I normally used to be is quite interesting, and that's because of the great privileges I get to have, like having many clothes shopped f

Chapter Forty-SevenAaliyah's POV “You were supposed to always keep me updated on whatever is going on in that house, but I seem to be a ghost now. Uhhn?” Sofiyyah says. It's quite alright that she will feel displeased by my actions anyway, and I know I need to do better.“I won't lie, it's been really hard doing anything right here. I've just been making so many decisions, and I'm not even sure if my plan to reveal the truth about Maximiliano Bianchi is the right thing to do at this moment.”I couldn't hold it in anymore, and Soffy is the one person I feel can really tell me if I'm truly just obsessing over this issue or if I'm doing the right thing. “Wait, wait, wait. Hold up a minute. Is that really self-doubt I'm sensing?” I can imagine the way Sofiyyah would be staring at me if she was sitting next to me. “You can't afford this level of self-doubt. I know you knew this wasn't going to be easy in the first place, and you decided to still do this because you want what's best t

Chapter Forty-SixAaliyah's POV For several reasons, I feel like a criminal, and I begin to wonder if I have left anything behind in the study that is making someone come knocking on my door. I think for a while until the bangs become louder and I'm forced to go and open the door. I unlock my door and pull it open carefully. I did not even get to see who's behind the door when the door was pushed open and the person forced themself into my room.“Why did it take you this long to get the door for me? Are you that busy? ” Iris turns to glare at me.I wonder what I've done again that she's so mad at me.I don't know why she's so much on edge, and it's as though there's nothing I can do or say to her that is right in her sight. “I didn't know you were the one by the door, and my ears were plugged in.”She nods at me like I'm lying. She doesn't even say anything before she walks towards the table where I was writing my findings and was about to touch it. I immediately run towards her
