The days of peace were growing thinner. The lands were quiet, but not calm. Birds changed their flight paths. Wolves reported strange echoes in the woods, conversations heard with no one seen speaking, trees bringing sap that shined for absolutely no reason. And every night, Lyon cried in his sleep, his eyes faintly glowing even while he was asleep.

Tristan was standing on the edge of the western cliffs, he put his hands and the tip of his sword always in a battle ready mode. He was watching the forest, but it was all so quiet now but he was not deceived by that stillness. He knew anything can happen anytime and he told himself he should be prepared.

Isabella walked towards him, he felt her presence even before she spoke.

“Another report came in,” she said.

“Three scouts didn’t return, and there was no trace or scent.”

Tristan spoke, but you could hear the tension in his voice.

“That’s the fourth group this week.”

“They’re pushing closer.”

“They’re waiting for us to break.”
