FAZER LOGIN**Elara's POV**
Chaos exploded across the courtyard.
Darius's black wolf was massive, hackles raised, fangs bared as he roared through the pack link. Wolves shifted all around me, fur rippling under the moonlight. Seraphina stumbled backward, clutching her belly, her face pale.
"Find the intruder!" Darius snarled, voice booming in my head. His golden wolf eyes snapped back to me, burning with accusation. "Elara. What the fuck did you do?"
I pressed my back against the cold stone wall, heart hammering. That new scent, dark pine, blood, and raw power, still coiled around my core like a living chain. It pulled at something deep inside me, awakening heat I hadn't felt in years.
"I didn't—"
Darius shifted back in a blur of cracking bones and stormed toward me, naked, blood-streaked, and furious. His hand clamped around my throat before I could finish, slamming me harder against the wall. The pack watched in stunned silence.
"Don't lie to me," he growled, breath hot against my face. His body pinned mine completely, hard muscle and raging alpha dominance. I could feel him against my thigh again, thick, half-hard, violence feeding his lust. "That scent on you. Foreign. Potent. You've been hiding something, wife."
His fingers tightened. Stars danced in my vision, but my traitorous body arched into him, nipples hardening against his chest. He noticed. A cruel smirk twisted his lips.
"Even now?" he mocked, sliding his free hand up my thigh, shoving my dress higher. Rough fingers brushed the edge of my panties. "My barren little whore still gets wet when I'm angry."
"Get off me," I hissed, but my voice cracked.
Seraphina's sharp voice cut through the tension. "Darius, the pack is watching. Handle your defective Luna later. Our pup—"
"Shut up," he snapped at her without looking away from me. His thumb pressed against my pulse point. "You think you can bring another male onto my territory? After everything I've given you?"
He leaned in, dragging his fangs along my jaw, scraping hard enough to draw blood. The metallic scent mixed with his own, making my head spin. That new bond screamed louder in response, clashing violently with the broken one I shared with him.
"I should fuck you right here," he whispered darkly, grinding against me so everyone could see. "Remind you who you belong to before I rip this intruder apart."
A low, dangerous growl rumbled from the forest edge, closer now. The entire pack tensed.
Darius's head whipped toward the trees. "Come out, coward!"
The scent intensified, flooding my senses. My knees weakened. It felt like fire in my veins, demanding I run toward it. Claim. Submit. Burn.
I bit my tongue hard to stay grounded.
Suddenly, several of Darius's warriors howled and charged into the tree line. Sounds of snapping branches and snarls erupted. Then a single, powerful roar shook the ground. Not one of ours.
A massive silver-black wolf burst from the shadows, moving like death itself. It tore through two of Darius's wolves in seconds, blood spraying across the grass. Powerful. Merciless.
Darius released me and shifted instantly, launching himself toward the intruder with a savage howl.
I slid down the wall, gasping, one hand pressed between my legs where unwanted heat was building. The new wolf's eyes, piercing ice-blue, locked on me for a split second across the battlefield. Recognition. Hunger. Possession.
Mine.
The word echoed in my mind, not from Darius's bond. This one was sharper. Darker.
Darius collided with the intruder in a clash of fangs and fury. They rolled, tearing at each other viciously. Blood flew. The pack surged forward to help their alpha.
Seraphina grabbed my arm, nails digging in. "You stupid bitch. What have you done?"
I shoved her off, harder than I should have. She stumbled, eyes wide with fear and rage.
More wolves poured from the trees, rogues, unmarked, following the silver-black beast. The fight turned brutal fast. Darius was winning through sheer rage, but the intruder fought like he had nothing to lose.
I couldn't look away from him.
Then Darius pinned the big wolf down, jaws clamped around its throat. Victory flashed in his eyes.
But the intruder twisted impossibly, slashing Darius's side deep before breaking free. Instead of retreating, he charged, not at Darius, but straight toward me.
The pack screamed warnings.
Darius roared in fury, "Elara!"
Claws dug into the dirt as the massive wolf closed the distance in terrifying leaps. His scent drowned everything else. My body reacted violently, heat flaring low, core clenching, power flickering under my skin.
He skidded to a stop right in front of me, towering, blood dripping from his jaws. Those ice-blue eyes bored into mine, stripping me bare.
Shift.
Bones cracked. In seconds, a man stood before me, tall, brutally built, dark hair wild, body covered in fresh wounds and old scars. A jagged tattoo of a broken moon marked his chest. Pure dominance rolled off him in waves.
"Elara Voss," he said, voice low and rough like gravel and sin. A wicked, feral smile curved his lips. "Been looking for you."
Behind him, Darius shifted back, charging forward with murder in his eyes. "Get your fucking hands off my Luna!"
Kael didn't even glance back. He reached out, claws still extended, and brushed a strand of hair from my face with surprising gentleness, right before his hand locked around my wrist like steel.
"You're coming with me, little queen."
Darius's roar split the night as he lunged.
And the world erupted into war.
CHAPTER FORTY-NINEThe capital was draped in banners of gold and crimson when they returned. The streets were lined with people, their faces bright with joy and relief. Elara rode through the crowd, Mira perched in front of her on the horse, Kael at her side. The cheers of the people washed over her like a wave, warm and overwhelming. She had done it. They had done it. The war was over, and they had won.Mira waved at the crowd, her small hand flapping enthusiastically. The people waved back, laughing and calling out her name. The pup was already a beloved figure, the symbol of hope and renewal that Elara had fought so hard to create."Mama, they're cheering for us!" Mira's voice was filled with wonder."They're cheering for all of us, little one. For everyone who fought to keep them safe."When they reached the castle, Elara dismounted and lifted Mira down. Seraphina was waiting at the gates, Hope in her arms. The two pups immediately ran to each other, their laughter filling the air
The northern pass was a narrow wound in the mountains, its rocky walls rising steeply on either side. Snow clung to the crevices, and the wind howled through the gap like a living thing. Elara stood at the head of her forces, watching the distant treeline where Korvath's army would appear. She had positioned her soldiers carefully. Archers lined the ridges above, their arrows ready. Infantry waited in concealed positions among the rocks. The pass itself was fortified with sharpened stakes and hidden pits. Every advantage had been taken.Kael stood beside her, his hand resting on his sword. "He'll come at dusk. That's when he attacked before.""Then we'll be ready." She didn't take her eyes off the treeline. "We've trained for this. We've prepared for this. We're not going to lose.""I know." He reached over and squeezed her hand. "I just wanted to say... no matter what happens, I'm glad I met you. I'm glad we had this time together."She turned to look at him, her heart clenching. "Do
The days following the battle were a blur of exhaustion and grief. Elara moved through them like a ghost, her body present but her mind somewhere far away. She helped tend to the wounded, comforted the grieving, and organized the burials of the fallen. There were too many of them. Far too many.Kael stayed close, his presence a steady anchor in the chaos. He didn't try to fill the silence with words. He simply stood beside her, his hand on her back or his arm around her shoulders, reminding her she wasn't alone. On the third day after the battle, Elara finally allowed herself to rest. She collapsed onto the bed in their chambers, her body aching, her mind numb. Kael lay beside her, his arm wrapped around her waist."I'm so tired," she whispered. "I don't think I've ever been this tired.""Then sleep." He pressed a kiss to her shoulder. "I'll be here when you wake up."She wanted to argue, to say there was too much to do, too many people who needed her. But her body had other plans, an
CHAPTER FORTY-SIXThe Edge of the BladeThe autumn air carried a chill that had nothing to do with the changing season. Elara stood on the eastern ridge, watching the horizon. The mountains loomed in the distance, their peaks dusted with the first snow of the year. Somewhere beyond them, Korvath's army was gathering. She had been coming here every day for the past week. Standing in the same spot, watching the same horizon, waiting for signs of movement. The scouts reported that Korvath was still days away, but she couldn't shake the feeling that time was running out.Kael found her there, his footsteps silent on the rocky ground. "You should come inside. It's getting cold.""I know." She didn't turn around. "I just... I need to see it. To understand what we're facing."He came to stand beside her, his shoulder brushing hers. "What do you see?""I see mountains. I see clouds. I see the future, and I don't know what it holds." She finally turned to look at him. "I'm scared, Kael. I'm sc
CHAPTER FORTY-FIVEThe news arrived on a wind-swept evening in late summer. Elara was in the garden, Mira helping her pick vegetables for dinner. The pup's small hands were clumsy but determined, her face scrunched in concentration as she tugged at a carrot."Mama, I got it!" Mira held up the vegetable triumphantly, dirt smeared across her cheeks."You did, little one. You're such a big helper." Elara laughed, brushing the dirt from her daughter's face. "That's going to taste extra special because you picked it yourself."Kael appeared at the garden gate, his expression tight. "Elara. We need to talk."She knew that look. Had seen it too many times during the war. Her heart dropped into her stomach."What happened?""Word from the eastern scouts. There's movement in the mountains beyond the territories. Large groups. Armed." He paused. "They're not from any territory we know."Elara handed Mira to Seraphina, who had appeared from the house. "Take her inside. Keep her there until I com
CHAPTER FORTY-FOURSummer arrived in a blaze of heat and color. The garden around the house by the lake burst into bloom, and the water sparkled under the relentless sun. Mira was running now, her small legs carrying her everywhere she wanted to go. She had discovered the joy of chasing butterflies and the thrill of splashing in the shallow water at the lake's edge.Elara watched her daughter from the porch, a smile playing on her lips. The pup was so full of life, so unafraid. She had never known the fear that had haunted Elara's childhood. She had never been beaten or starved or told she was worthless. She had only ever known love. That was the greatest victory of all.Seraphina arrived with Hope in tow, the two pups immediately running off to play together. Their laughter echoed across the water, pure and joyful."They're inseparable," Seraphina observed, settling onto the porch swing beside Elara. "I don't think I've ever seen two children so close.""They've known each other sinc
