Chapter two

It's been three months and Dahlia never sighted her husband in the house since the day they got married. The afternoon she's walked in and heard him fucking a woman in his room then he'd disappeared from the face of earth.

She's gotten used to the housemaids in the house, Mrs. Austin and the others were very welcoming. She had nothing to do during her free time so she spent them bonding up with the workers she's going to stay with for a whole year. It shouldn't be that bad.

Like the contract she's signed when Mr. Caine requested her presence in the vip section of the cafe she used to work in. He'd told her she doesn't have to work throughout her time with his son. He was going to pay her a huge amount of money and she's grateful for that.

Since she's left the orphanage, she's worked her entire life from one cafe to the next restaurant or diner. There was no time to rest when she needed to feed and cloth herself. Dahlia had it bad right from the beginning because her parents decided that they do not need her in their lives.

Now even her husband doesn't value her neither does he respect her presence in the house. He's brought women without her knowledge. The maids talk about it constantly and she eavesdrops all the time.

Maria, a young lady that works in the villa whom Dahlia decided to befriend had told her so many things about Ethan. All of them were either scary, cringy or just plain wrong and heartless. Ethan Caine is not the man the media knew, he was far worse than that.

"He doesn't care about his parents from what we know. Some say he hated them because his father had an affair and his mother forgave him." Maria had said, her eyes widening as she narrated her side of rumor.

It is indeed a rumor because it is all over internet but no one backed the story. The woman he's cheated on her with is not available. No one knows who she is but she goes by the name Laura McLeonard.

"Andrew Caine had an affair? Wow." Dahlia was surprised but not exactly shocked.

She doesn't believe much the media has to say but then again, she doesn't really know who Andrew Caine is personally. She only knew that he was a gentleman and wanted the best for his son. That he loved his children.

"Yeah, surprising though I do believe it was a mistake or some shit. He should cut the old man some slack even if that were the case. His parents adore him."

Maria had shook her head as though disappointed then went back to arranging Dahlia's new clothes in the wardrobe. Mr. Caine gave her his credit card to go and buy whatever she wanted at the mall, something fit for Ethan Caine's wife. Only branded expensive outfits.

"I can see that."

"Then there is his sister that never visits. She's in good terms with only Ethan, not the mother or the father. Can you imagine? What sort of children would do that to their parents? It's painful seeing the Caines coming here only for Ethan to not agree to see them time and time again." Maria continued, clearly wanting to tell the mistress everything to be on her good side.

Dahlia on the other hand is very curious about them all. "Really? Can't they talk some senses into him?"

"Uh-huh. It's so bad honestly. I cannot wait for someone to solve this mystery between the children. Something is fishy." Maria stopped to narrow her eyes then smiled sheepishly and continued her work.

"Yeah. It is not the cheating stuff, I'm sure."

"It goes deeper than that. Why would your own flesh and blood detest you with such intensity that they cannot stay in the same room as you? It makes no sense." Clearly Maria isn't a fan of both the Caine siblings.

"Now I'm very curious. Only that none of them would give any answer. There is no hope when it comes to Ethan."

"He's such a handsome devil though. A waste."

"But far away from everyone's reach. I would really like to know what made him this way." Dahlia rested her head on the couch's headrest inside her walk-in closet.

"He is not that open." Maria turned around, her eyes filled with warning.

"Just keep your heart safely away from him, he's danger. The face is perfect so is the large perfect body with beautiful muscles but the heart? I doubt it beats."

She should have heard that warning but every single day she looked forward to meeting Ethan Caine. She spends most of her time stalking him on internet to feed herself on anything related to him. He is walking freely through her mind.

Dahlia walked down the stairs in search of food that afternoon, her stomach having grumbled twice before she decided to feed it. Down she went only to stop at the last step of the stairs when she heard two voices talking in the living room.

Her brows furrowed at the deep baritone that is talking before a soft feminine one took over. Confused, she peeked her head to see who was there only for her breath to catch at the sight of her handsome devil husband and a slender woman in front of him.

Deciding to eavesdrop, she went back a little so the wall could shield her.

"How dare he force you to marry someone from the streets? Is he fucking nuts? What the hell is going through that man's head?" The slender woman said, her arms crossed in front of her.

Is she the one they are talking about? She wanted to shout at them that she wasn't from the streets but she couldn't, something got stuck in her throat. Not that she could. She is scared of rich folks.

"I have no idea but I am going to beat him at his own game, he should watch me." This was Ethan's voice. This is the first time she was hearing it instead of his moans.

Dahlia felt something tighten in her core at the sound of her husband's voice. She closed her eyes, letting his words slide down and caress her body. Quickly recalling what she was doing, she opened her eyes and continued to listen.

"And mother is just sitting idly like the little good woman she is, huh? Not saying a thing that her husband is ruining her son's life with his nonsense. "

"Like she always does." Ethan made an animalistic sound that sounded almost like a growl.

"What is the essence of this whole crappy marriage?" The woman whom Dahlia now fixed as the younger Caine sibling asked.

"Fuck me if I fucking know. He is going to regret it. That is all I know." The promise written all over his words had Dahlia shivering.

He is indeed evil like Maria had said. Does he have a heart at all? Would he really do that to his own father? God, this is a wrong place to be at.

Before she could take a step forward or backward, both the two siblings appeared in front of her looking as striking as ever. They look similar with their dark raven hair, olive skin that she wanted to lick one particular person's. One thing is different though, their eyes.

While Ethan's were vivid blue that she could drown in, the female version of him has brown eyes that appear to be innocent but Dahlia wasn't fooled. There is something unsettling about this woman in front of her.

Clearly they are placing the dots in place trying to see who she was so she straightened her back not that that would mean anything. When they realized that she wasn't wearing the maid's uniform, they concluded.

"Who are you?" Soft feminine voice asked in a hard tone, her eyes narrowing on Dahlia's.

"I am Dahlia." She wanted to add Caine but that would be a bold move and honestly, she is very frightened at the moment.

Both the siblings sneered at the same time. They both share the same expression and clearly, they do not like her at all. She swallowed, her hands clawing at the wall behind her back. Something is off and she wants to run away.

Female Caine stepped forward into her personal space. "So you are the whore our father forced into our family huh? What did you do to him? Why did he choose you?"

Dahlia's eyes widened at the hostility and tears begin to gather in her eyes. She did nothing wrong. He just offered her money when she really needed it and that was it, nothing more. God these people are scaring her.

Swallowing some more. "I did nothing. I swear it." She stuttered.

The woman didn't falter, she sneered into her face. "Which brothel did he carry you from? You smell cheap even amongst the whores."

Dahlia was crying with full tears now. How could they? "I-I am not a whore. I—" she was forced to be quiet when a slap landed on her face.

She had no idea who slapped her though.
