Taking off her coat, Dahlia hang it on the coat rack beside her office door then walked further inside her five inches pumps hitting the floor as she takes controlled steps to the chair in front of the glass window that takes an entire wall behind.
Keeping her bag on the desk, she sat down on the executive swivel chair and turned on her laptop. Her eyes moved around the numbers on her screen before she narrowed them. Something is missing and whoever it was that messed with her will pay.She dialed her assistant’s intercom number and waited for a few seconds before he picked up, his voice stern and austere like she’s always liked it. She doesn’t want meek assistants, they don’t just fit in her plans.“To my office now.” She said and hung up her own intercom and sharpened her attention on her laptop.Caleb walked inside looking smart in his dark blue pants and white shirt tucked in his pants, a tie perfectly situated around his neck. He stood by the desk waiting for her to finish whatever it was before she turned to him fully.“Some numbers are missing her, Caleb. I want you to go and find out what happened to last month’s PowerPoint, something doesn’t add up.” She explained, clasping her hands in front of her while her face stayed expressionless like she’s mastered in the years.“Yes, Ma’am.”“Get back to me in an hour.” She dismissed him with a flick of her hang then went back to working and answering her emails. Her hand halted when she saw a familiar company’s name in a certain email she wasn’t ready to open but curiosity got the best of her. She’s never allowed herself to venture into that route ever since she vowed to let it be five years ago.Crowes Corporation is facing bankruptcy because of some bad investment decisions they took few years ago. Dahlia saw it coming and quickly maneuvered her way out of it by sharing her shares to an interested investor. She always knew when things would go wrong. As she read the email saying Caines Multinationals wants to buy the company, her hands tightened in a fist. She was going to buy the company when they have no choice but to sell it and so far, they are yet to decide what to do with it.How dare he try to take over? She won’t let him this time. She’s been the ruthless CEO for years now and just because he is part of her past doesn’t mean she is going to let him win. No, he has got another thing coming.Even with her ruthlessness in the business world, she tried to stay away from Caine Multinationals for as long as she could recall. She’s built her empire in another country away from his but work brought her back to New York and she won’t leave it without staining it with her success. She is now ready to meet Ethan Caine and whatever it is he wants to bring. She is not as powerful as he is but she vowed to become his as influential. So far, her work is getting perfected with amazing investors. Her personal phone rang inside her tote bag, she removed the latest device and smiled at the caller. It was her baby boy calling from his nanny’s phone on FaceTime. She left him less than an hour ago but the four year old boy wasn’t having it.“Hello there, little bean.” She grinned at the camera, making sure her glass windows are fogged so her employees won’t see her smiling like that.No one has ever seen her real smile apart from her son and his nanny. Everyone in the world and media titled her as youngest and emotionless female CEO but it doesn’t matter. She wants to world to see that a woman can also be heartless just like a man had taught her once upon a time. She permitted the media to know about her after she’s become a multimillionaire. The story on how she’s become successful is still getting printed in newspapers and books at the library. It’s been two years since she’s jumped into the spotlight and headlines.“Momma! I miss you already. Nanny doesn’t want to play with me today.” Aiden complained as soon as she picked the call making her frown.“Why doesn’t she want to play with you?” She feigned anger though she knew the nanny had every reason not to let him play.Aiden made a face knowing he’s been caught but grumbled out also knowing he is a mommy’s baby. “Homework.”“Honey, you need to do your homework before you play. You’ll get tired after playing then have a nap.” She explained in her placating tone used only for him.Aiden huffed. “Okay, mommy. Bye bye.”“No kisses for mommy now?” She widened her eyes at him, a pout setting on her red lips. Her son giggled at her before blowing her kissed which she returned with a large smile. The phone hung up just as a knock came from her door. She called out a sharp ‘come in’ to the door before it was pushed open.Caleb walked in with a dent heavily between his brows making Dahlia to sit up. This is probably something huge because Caleb is not one to frown at just anything. Her eyes narrowed as she waited for the news.“What is it? Something is missing right?”“Yes, Ma’am. A huge amount of money has been stolen from last month and the new jewelry design you’ve been working on is also missing. There is no trail as to who did this but I’ll try checking again.” He explained, his eyes on his tablet before giving it to her.Dahlia’s anger escalated to full blown wrath at the sight of the missing money she’s been meaning to donate to the charity and the necklace she’s working on to add to the collection of the jewelry she’s creating. She’s made her wealth and became successful as a skilled jewelry designer. She designs and manufacture jewelries in her own company. She started by working for a larger company and manufacturing jewelries requested by those in charge before she started her own with enough income and investors she’s met along the way. This new piece she’s working on is supposed to be her biggest hit in the industry. She planned on making this the most expensive set of diamonds to have ever existed. This was were she’s relied her entire hope and faith to. She was looking forward to this gargantuan project and Caleb knew that.“I want you to find out who the fuck did this and bring them down to me in less than twenty four hours. Go now!” She waited till he left the room before she lost her cool.Yanking her hand through her long raven hair, she closed her eyes to stop the tears from rolling down. She hates when things are going wrong in her life. Just like this moment. Someone is trying to mess with her but they’ve picked the wrong person.Standing up from her chair, she picked her burner phone to give a call no one would expect a woman to. No one knows that she’s associated with the underworld. But she doesn’t work with them, she makes them work for her and she pays handsomely.“I want you to find out who’s messed with my project and money. They shouldn’t be spared.” And she hung up the phone, taking deep even breaths. Her attention quickly snapped to the email she’s seen earlier, of Ethan Caine’s company wanting what she’s had her eyes on for a long time. Going back to the desk, she checked the email again to confirm what she’s seen before deciding to email George Crowe himself.Ethan Caine is also messing with the wrong person. It’s about time he is shown his place by the right person for he won’t see it coming at all. She never planned meeting him again in this way but sometimes fate has the best plan for everyone. What Ethan won’t see coming is a successful woman in place of the girl that’s cried many night for his love. A girl that took the desperate opportunity to have just one night with him. A night that brought her a gift in a form of human.“I want a meeting arranged with Ethan Caine for the company.” She said into the phone to George Crowe who was quick to oblige.Ethan walked down the short corridor that leads to his office while checking his wristwatch. He’s got a meeting with Mr. Crowe in about an hour and though he’s got some pressing issues to deal with, he felt compelled to be at this meeting. Something is drawing him in and he’s always followed his instincts. Immediately he settled on his massive executive chair, his secretary waltzed in swaying her hips from one side to the other hoping for attention from the former playboy. Ethan has changed and everyone could see that though no one knows why he’s changed so much. He unbuttoned his onyx Armani suit and sat down checking his recent emails while his secretary rambled on about his meeting and the schedule for the day. His personal assistant is on maternity leave so his secretary decided to take her place for the time being. He’s regretting it. “That’s all for the day, sir.” She added in a sultry tone hoping he’d at least glance up and see her see through red shirt but he didn’t and ins
“Yeah, make sure things are done properly. I’ve got the jewelry’s backup from my other Mac.” Dahlia said into the phone to her assistant whom she’s left at the office to attend this meeting. She explained everything to him while feeling her chauffeur’s presence beside the door he’s opened for her. There are two other cars behind them waiting to move forward but she’s blocking them and she’s not about to walk out of the car talking on phone. When she’s done, she reapplied her little red lipstick and decide that it’s time to get things done and over with. She’s finally going to meet Ethan Caine after several years and she doesn’t know what to really feel about it. Settling her scarlet Stuart Weitzman pumps onto the ground before fully emerging in her white formal Chanel dress featuring keyhole neckline and cuff sleeves. The dress feel shortly above her knees, in her hand is a red Bottega Veneta tote bag. She’s wearing red and white colour combination because of how great she always
Mr. Crowe was obviously confused and perplexed as to what was going on and had no idea what to say to them. What do you say to two powerful people wanting your company? He wracked his brain to get back his business mind in track and it came a moment later. Passing them both a smile seeing as they were not going to sit down, he stood up and adjusted his suit. Licking his lips, Mr. Crowe stopped himself last minute from rubbing his hands together. This is some good business he’s about to get. Why the hell not? It seems like the duo have a history between them and one won’t let the other win, he will use it against them. That is how business usually works. Either they have a past or they heard about one another and want to put each other in place. “I heard all your proposals and each of them sound wonderful. I won’t mind either of you buying the company, your business strategies are acute.” He paused for effect watching as the board members nod their heads at that. “Now back to the
Ethan raked a hand through his hair several times, his expression murderous and his employees knew not to cross him that morning because all hell would break loose. He paced the length of his office, nostrils flaring in anger and frustration with questions. He plopped himself down on the chair thinking hard about the woman he’s met today in the elevator and the woman that fought for that contract until she won it with her sickly sweet smile, bland eyes and amazing negotiation skills that made him still. He would’ve won the whole thing but because he wanted to see her in action –for one it turned him on so fucking much– and know where her business strategy is located just in case she decides to buy the same company he wanted in the future. Ethan had no idea he was going to ever meet his ex wife. Not now. Not ever. The way she vanished from the face of earth five years ago without a single trace, he was sure she was found dead in some ally and no one knows who she was. He’s scraped t
As she settled everything into place, she extended her arms wide, allowing herself to become enveloped by the warmth of the sun. The notion of a vacation had remained distant ever since she had embarked on her business journey years ago, yet here she was at last, prompted by Aiden's insistent desire to visit Bali.Adorned in a tasteful two-piece bikini, she reclined along the secluded shore of the cottage she had secured for the week. A conscious decision had been made to shelve all things related to phones during this dedicated period with her son. The sole purpose of this time was to be fully present for him.Aiden playfully maneuvered his way to her side, his head resting gently against her chest, inducing a tender smile to grace her lips. Her fingers wove through his dark brow hair—a trait inherited from his father—as she planted a soft kiss on his forehead.Ethan had, over time, extinguished any remnants of romantic notions, leaving her heart a casualty along the way. For most, h
He found himself lying in bed, caught in a restless cycle of tossing and turning, as sleep had eluded him for several consecutive nights. Over the past few days, his slumber had become a frustrating ordeal, with him struggling to muster even a mere two hours of rest within a full day. The culprit behind this sleeplessness was painfully obvious, yet he stubbornly refused to acknowledge it. Frustration finally drove him to rise from the confines of his bed, prompting him to revisit the private beach that had initially drawn him to this cottage rental. Earlier in the day, he had inked a business deal that, on paper, represented a substantial windfall in the form of millions of dollars. However, the expected joy that should accompany such an achievement remained elusive. As he approached the serene beach, his gaze fixated on the vast expanse of the ocean, but his eyes lacked the usual spark of enthusiasm. His thoughts were in disarray, tangled in a web of conflicting emotions that lef
As Dahlia walked out of the small cottage she shared with Aiden for three days, after bumping into Ethan the first night there, she didn't risk any chance of leaving the cottage with Aiden, even though he insisted on going somewhere to have fun. Searching the clearing to make sure the beach was empty, she snuck Aiden out of the cottage, and they made their way to the rented car she had borrowed. Aiden was smiling the whole time, which warmed her heart. Her son looked like the exact replica of his father. They arrived at the park and filed inside. She had prepared so many delicacies for them for this mini picnic she had decided they should have that morning. She took sandwiches, fruit slices of apples, grapes, watermelon, baby carrots, other veggies, cheese and crackers, juice boxes, snacks, sweets, cookies, brownies, a camera, and a blanket. She wanted him to enjoy this vacation like she had promised him. Aiden grinned widely as they set up a place beneath a large tree. There were
“…I now pronounce you as husband and wife! You may kiss the bride.” The Priest say with a teasing glint in his eyes knowing he’s done that several times before. Dahlia’s eyes fell on the man in front of her who is now her legal husband. She waited patiently for him to lean in and kiss her but he didn’t, refused to obey the priest. Her heart fell to her feet but not in disappointment, anger. How dare he disrespect her in front of the so many people his father decided to invite to their wedding? Doesn’t he respect his father in the least to comply and keep the facade for the people he’s invited? She doesn’t expect much from this stoic faced cold hearted man. Instead he rushed down the three steps at the alter then vanished from the church leaving her face heated at the blatant humiliation. He should’ve at least leaned in and touched her cheek or something. Embarrassed, Dahlia slowly followed him outside, her head bent, not able to stand the humiliation with so many eyes watching the
