Chapter six

Taking off her coat, Dahlia hang it on the coat rack beside her office door then walked further inside her five inches pumps hitting the floor as she takes controlled steps to the chair in front of the glass window that takes an entire wall behind.

Keeping her bag on the desk, she sat down on the executive swivel chair and turned on her laptop. Her eyes moved around the numbers on her screen before she narrowed them. Something is missing and whoever it was that messed with her will pay.

She dialed her assistant’s intercom number and waited for a few seconds before he picked up, his voice stern and austere like she’s always liked it. She doesn’t want meek assistants, they don’t just fit in her plans.

“To my office now.” She said and hung up her own intercom and sharpened her attention on her laptop.

Caleb walked inside looking smart in his dark blue pants and white shirt tucked in his pants, a tie perfectly situated around his neck. He stood by the desk waiting for her to finish whatever it was before she turned to him fully.

“Some numbers are missing her, Caleb. I want you to go and find out what happened to last month’s PowerPoint, something doesn’t add up.” She explained, clasping her hands in front of her while her face stayed expressionless like she’s mastered in the years.

“Yes, Ma’am.”

“Get back to me in an hour.” She dismissed him with a flick of her hang then went back to working and answering her emails.

Her hand halted when she saw a familiar company’s name in a certain email she wasn’t ready to open but curiosity got the best of her. She’s never allowed herself to venture into that route ever since she vowed to let it be five years ago.

Crowes Corporation is facing bankruptcy because of some bad investment decisions they took few years ago. Dahlia saw it coming and quickly maneuvered her way out of it by sharing her shares to an interested investor. She always knew when things would go wrong.

As she read the email saying Caines Multinationals wants to buy the company, her hands tightened in a fist. She was going to buy the company when they have no choice but to sell it and so far, they are yet to decide what to do with it.

How dare he try to take over? She won’t let him this time. She’s been the ruthless CEO for years now and just because he is part of her past doesn’t mean she is going to let him win. No, he has got another thing coming.

Even with her ruthlessness in the business world, she tried to stay away from Caine Multinationals for as long as she could recall. She’s built her empire in another country away from his but work brought her back to New York and she won’t leave it without staining it with her success.

She is now ready to meet Ethan Caine and whatever it is he wants to bring. She is not as powerful as he is but she vowed to become his as influential. So far, her work is getting perfected with amazing investors.

Her personal phone rang inside her tote bag, she removed the latest device and smiled at the caller. It was her baby boy calling from his nanny’s phone on FaceTime. She left him less than an hour ago but the four year old boy wasn’t having it.

“Hello there, little bean.” She grinned at the camera, making sure her glass windows are fogged so her employees won’t see her smiling like that.

No one has ever seen her real smile apart from her son and his nanny. Everyone in the world and media titled her as youngest and emotionless female CEO but it doesn’t matter. She wants to world to see that a woman can also be heartless just like a man had taught her once upon a time.

She permitted the media to know about her after she’s become a multimillionaire. The story on how she’s become successful is still getting printed in newspapers and books at the library. It’s been two years since she’s jumped into the spotlight and headlines.

“Momma! I miss you already. Nanny doesn’t want to play with me today.” Aiden complained as soon as she picked the call making her frown.

“Why doesn’t she want to play with you?” She feigned anger though she knew the nanny had every reason not to let him play.

Aiden made a face knowing he’s been caught but grumbled out also knowing he is a mommy’s baby. “Homework.”

“Honey, you need to do your homework before you play. You’ll get tired after playing then have a nap.” She explained in her placating tone used only for him.

Aiden huffed. “Okay, mommy. Bye bye.”

“No kisses for mommy now?” She widened her eyes at him, a pout setting on her red lips.

Her son giggled at her before blowing her kissed which she returned with a large smile. The phone hung up just as a knock came from her door. She called out a sharp ‘come in’ to the door before it was pushed open.

Caleb walked in with a dent heavily between his brows making Dahlia to sit up. This is probably something huge because Caleb is not one to frown at just anything. Her eyes narrowed as she waited for the news.

“What is it? Something is missing right?”

“Yes, Ma’am. A huge amount of money has been stolen from last month and the new jewelry design you’ve been working on is also missing. There is no trail as to who did this but I’ll try checking again.” He explained, his eyes on his tablet before giving it to her.

Dahlia’s anger escalated to full blown wrath at the sight of the missing money she’s been meaning to donate to the charity and the necklace she’s working on to add to the collection of the jewelry she’s creating.

She’s made her wealth and became successful as a skilled jewelry designer. She designs and manufacture jewelries in her own company. She started by working for a larger company and manufacturing jewelries requested by those in charge before she started her own with enough income and investors she’s met along the way.

This new piece she’s working on is supposed to be her biggest hit in the industry. She planned on making this the most expensive set of diamonds to have ever existed. This was were she’s relied her entire hope and faith to. She was looking forward to this gargantuan project and Caleb knew that.

“I want you to find out who the fuck did this and bring them down to me in less than twenty four hours. Go now!” She waited till he left the room before she lost her cool.

Yanking her hand through her long raven hair, she closed her eyes to stop the tears from rolling down. She hates when things are going wrong in her life. Just like this moment. Someone is trying to mess with her but they’ve picked the wrong person.

Standing up from her chair, she picked her burner phone to give a call no one would expect a woman to. No one knows that she’s associated with the underworld. But she doesn’t work with them, she makes them work for her and she pays handsomely.

“I want you to find out who’s messed with my project and money. They shouldn’t be spared.” And she hung up the phone, taking deep even breaths.

Her attention quickly snapped to the email she’s seen earlier, of Ethan Caine’s company wanting what she’s had her eyes on for a long time. Going back to the desk, she checked the email again to confirm what she’s seen before deciding to email George Crowe himself.

Ethan Caine is also messing with the wrong person. It’s about time he is shown his place by the right person for he won’t see it coming at all. She never planned meeting him again in this way but sometimes fate has the best plan for everyone.

What Ethan won’t see coming is a successful woman in place of the girl that’s cried many night for his love. A girl that took the desperate opportunity to have just one night with him. A night that brought her a gift in a form of human.

“I want a meeting arranged with Ethan Caine for the company.” She said into the phone to George Crowe who was quick to oblige.
