Chapter 146

Elena stood outside Mia's hospital room door for what felt like forever, her hand hovering over the handle. Her heart was beating so fast she could hear it in her ears. Taking a deep breath, Elena finally pushed open the door and stepped inside. The room was quiet except for the steady beeping of machines and the soft hum of the air conditioning. Mia was lying in the hospital bed with her eyes closed, looking so peaceful that Elena almost turned around and left without saying anything.

But she knew she had to do this. She had to face what she had done and try to make it right, even if it was too late.

She walked slowly toward the bed, her footsteps making soft sounds on the tiled floor. When she reached Mia's side, she carefully sat down on the small bench that had been placed there for visitors.

Chapter 166When Ethan finally arrived home, he sat in his car for several minutes trying to figure out what to do next. He couldn't tell Mia about this - she would insist they call the police immediately and have his dad arrested. But Ethan wasn't ready for that. He needed to understand why his father had killed that man. There had to be a reason, some explanation that would make sense of what he had seen. His dad was a smart, calculating man who would never do anything without a purpose. He wouldn't risk his reputation and freedom unless something very important was at stake. There's more to this story, Ethan thought. Something bigger is happening here, and he needs to find out what it is before he could decide what to do.He also had a gut feeling that this murder was connected somehow to his mother's death and Elena's arrest. The timing was too coincidental to be unrelated.Ethan decided that if Mia comes the following day, he'll tell her he still hasn't found any new leads. He ne

  • THE SPITEFUL BRIDE: Marry To Rival's Son    THIS WASN'T HIS FIRST TIME KILLING SOMEONE PERSONALLY

Chapter 165After sitting in his car for what felt like forever, Ethan finally made his decision. He couldn't drive away without knowing what his father was doing in this place. Too many questions would haunt him if he left now.He parked his car behind an abandoned building where it wouldn't be easily spotted and got out quietly. The night air was cold and still, and every small sound seemed amplified in the darkness. He crept toward the alley where Samuel's car had disappeared, staying close to the shadows of the buildings. His heart was beating so hard he was worried someone might actually be able to hear it.As he got closer, he could see two figures standing near the far end of the alley. One was clearly his father - Ethan would recognize Samuel's posture and expensive suit anywhere. The other was a man wearing a dark cap pulled low over his face.Even from a distance, Ethan could tell they were having some kind of heated argument. Samuel was gesturing angrily with his hands, and

But Mia's instincts had always been good, so he had agreed to watch him carefully. That's why Ethan was still living at the Meyer family home instead of his own penthouse. He told himself it was because he was helping with funeral arrangements and family business, but really, he was watching his father's every move. The house felt empty and wrong without his mother there. Every room held memories of her, her laugh echoing from the kitchen, her perfume lingering in the hallways, her voice calling to him from the garden. She was greedy and sometimes cruel, but she was still my mother. She didn't deserve to die like that. ..........For two weeks, Ethan and Mia had been conducting their secret investigation. • THE SPITEFUL BRIDE: Marry To Rival's Son    I THINK YOU SHOULD KEEP AN EYE ON SAMUEL

Chapter 163For days, the police kept calling Elena in for interrogation. Each time, the same detective with tired eyes would ask her the same questions over and over again. Each time, she would sit quietly with Stefan's lawyer and repeat that she was innocent."I didn't do it. I didn't kill her. I've never even thought of harming anyone my life" She'd always repeat. She was tired of the constant questioning wasn't what was eating her alive. It was the deafening silence from Ethan. He hadn't called her. He hadn't texted. He hadn't even tried to see her. She had tried calling him dozens of times, but every call went straight to voicemail. Her messages went unanswered. It was like he had completely erased her from his life. She sat in her room at Stefan's house, staring at her phone and willing it to ring. The engagement ring was still on her finger, but it felt heavy now, like a reminder of everything she had lost.Maybe he really does think she killed his mother, she thought, her hear
