Ethan

I paced to and fro at the Gance family's residence, peeking through the window that overlooked the driveway for signs of Nathan's return as he had gone over to Hartley Global to convince Adrian to throw the suspicion off me.

Ever since Adrian Hartley had made that ridiculous announcement to the press that I was a suspect in Scarlett's car crash incident, I had been forced into hiding in Nathan's home as reporters surrounded mine.

Immediately upon hearing the sound of Nathan's car pulling

  • THE WIFE HE NEVER HAD, NOW HE REGRETS IT   THE VILLAIN'S RETURN

Chase“For now, act like you know nothing. Adrian and I will do the most we can to get you out of there,” I said. “I have to go now. My one minute is up.” I placed a quick kiss on Ryker's lips before leaving and heading back to Kevin's office as if nothing had happened, but unfortunately for me, Kevin had returned before I could. “You were away for quite some time, Mr. Jenkins,” Kevin said. “I saw your absence as an opportunity to use the restroom. What? Are you going to reprimand my action?” I asked. Kevin blinked. “I simply made a statement.” That was a disgusting lie. He was suspicious of my absence. Too bad he wasn't going to get anything out of either us or that corrupt guard. “Adrian, let's go.” Kevin arched his brow. “You're leaving just like that?” “You're not planning on releasing my husband anytime soon, so I don't see the point of hovering around this station any longer,” I replied, deadpan. “Have a good night, Mr. Smith.” With that said, we strolled out of the sta

  • THE WIFE HE NEVER HAD, NOW HE REGRETS IT   A LIFELINE

Chase“Is it true? Did someone pay you off, you crazy fucker?“ I asked.“Watch your language with me, Chase Jenkins. I'm an officer of the law,“ Kevin defended, retracting his hand from Adrian's grip. He added, “Also, Mr. Hartley, I would prefer if you don't make false accusations against me.““Then prove me wrong,“ Adrian countered. “Which head officer can confirm your position?“He didn't hesitate. “Officer Landon.“The firmness in his response made me wonder if Adrian's suspicion had been wrong. But then again, if there was even an iota of hope that this officer was a corrupt CSO, I was willing to cling to it like a lifeline for Ryker's sake.“Landon Deury?“ Adrian asked.“Yes.“He remained silent for a while before speaking up. “Then I apologize for the misunderstanding my actions caused. I was not informed that a new officer was added under Deury's team.“Kevin's shoulders slumped. “That's not a problem, Mr. Hartley. People make mistakes.“Pulling Fletcher up, he added, “Give me

  • THE WIFE HE NEVER HAD, NOW HE REGRETS IT   CRAZY SON OF A B*TCH!

Chase “Are you Fletcher?“ I asked, with my hands in the air. Fletcher pressed the gun harder against the back of my head. “You don't get to ask me questions. Now, hand over the phone.“ I tightened my grip around the phone. “No.“ Fletcher pulled the gun back and shot the ground beside my knees. “Do you think I'm playing here? There are two more bullets loaded in—“ I twisted around, knocking the gun out of Fletcher's hands and tackling him to the ground. Twisting his arms behind his back, I reached out for his gun and pointed it at him. “Now, you answer to me,“ I said. “How did you get 200 kilos of drugs on that plane?“ Gritting his teeth, he replied, “Go to hell.“ Without hesitation, I pulled the trigger, shooting his leg. “Ah!“ Fletcher shouted. “You crazy son of a bitch!“ “That's right. I am crazy, so let's try this again, shall we?“ I asked. “Think carefully before you answer this time because there's only one bullet left, and I won't miss. Do you want me to repeat the que

  • THE WIFE HE NEVER HAD, NOW HE REGRETS IT   THE ODDS ARE AGAINST YOUR FAVOUR

Chase“W-What?” I stuttered, unable to recover from the shock. “You can't just take my husband away like that without evidence.”“We have every piece of sustainable evidence we need down at the station,” the officer countered, shoving Ryker into the back seat of the patrol car.I tried to follow suit, but the cop stopped me. “I'm sorry, but if you have to come down to the station as his partner, you're going to have to use another vehicle.”“Step aside. I'm his lawyer,” I corrected. Those words seemed to have done the trick, as the officer gave in and allowed me to ride with Ryker to the station.“It's going to be okay,” Ryker assured me. “Whatever they have on me is probably some sort of setup. You don't need to get worked up. I'll be out of the station before you know it.”Rather than those words relaxing my nerves, they only heightened my anxiety, fueling this ominous feeling I just couldn't shake off. When we got to the station, the officer pulled Ryker into the interrogation room

  • THE WIFE HE NEVER HAD, NOW HE REGRETS IT   KARMA IS A B*TCH!

Chase“Get out, now!” Rion shouted, shoving me out of the bedroom. “You can already see the state she’s in. Yet, you decided to aggravate her temper!”Ryker stepped in between us. “Uncle, that’s enough. I know you’re upset, but that doesn’t give you the right to shove my person like that.”Rion's expression darkened. It was obvious he was boiling with rage and barely able to hold back, so I tugged Ryker's arm. “That’s enough, Ryker,” I cautioned. “Rion has every reason to be angry.”I bowed. “Once again, I apologize and thank you for letting me see Pearl.”His hardened jaw didn’t relax. “I know you meant well, but for Pearl’s sake, this will be the last time you are allowed to step foot inside this house. Seeing you alone was enough to make her have a panic attack. Not again.”“I understand. Let’s go, honey.”Without saying another word, Ryker allowed himself to be dragged along by me.Inside the car, he asked, “Do you want to talk about it?”I looked out the car window. “I keep thin

  • THE WIFE HE NEVER HAD, NOW HE REGRETS IT   BROKEN BOND

ChaseAfter washing up, I moved to the bed and curled up in Ryker's arms, who had just ended a call.“Was that your boss?” I asked. He nodded, setting his phone aside. “Yes. He called as soon as he heard the news about what happened to the plane.”“Your boss is really considerate.”A soft chuckle escaped his lips. “Of course he is.”An awkward silence settled heavily between us until I spewed out the question weighing on my mind.“When do you have to go back?” I asked.“First thing tomorrow morning.”After almost losing Ryker once, I became hesitant to let him out of my sight.“Can you make sure to double-check the plane this time?” I asked, gripping the back of his shirt tightly. “I don't want to lose you, Ryker.”Gently, he placed a soft kiss on my forehead. “You won't, Chase. Hey, since we have a whole day to ourselves, should we do something fun? Like maybe take a stroll outside or go see a movie?”As enticing as that sounded, I wanted to hole myself up in this space, but Ryker wo

ScarlettWe immediately headed out. Durian stood in the middle of the room, his board game overturned at his feet, pieces scattered everywhere. The TV remote lay broken on the floor nearby.
