LUCIAN

I haven’t slept since I found that journal.

The sun is already bleeding through windows, casting pale orange light across the room, but it feels meaningless because time has lost its grip on me.

All I can do is sit here and wait.

Last night, after having a conversation with Ingrid, I contacted a guy I know at the bank—a discreet connection I made a few years back when I wanted to purchase new land for the pack.

I asked him to follow the money trail I found in the notebook, the offshore account that is under Elara’s name and he said he’d get back to me, but it’s been hours.

Long, dragging, silent hours.

I hate this. The waiting. The helplessness. I feel like my hands are tied, and that only makes my skin crawl.

Luckily, Ingrid hasn’t slept either. She’s been here with me the whole night, curled up beside me on the couch like a shadow that refuses to leave.

She hasn’t said anything the whole time, just breathing in sync with me.

Her eyes are rimmed with exhaustion, dark circles v

INGRIDOnce I reach the gate, my heart starts to pound, but I steady my breath. I push against it, but it doesn't budge. It’s locked.I’m about to try again when a voice rings out from within. “There’s someone at the gate!”The shout echoes across the compound, and I freeze.Moments later, I hear a loud metallic click followed by the groaning creak of gears. The gate shudders and opens just enough for a person to slip through.I squeeze myself in carefully, and the sight that greets me makes my blood run cold.Dash stands ahead with another pack member flanking him, both holding rifles like they’re on high alert.Their eyes sweep over me, and Dash looks at me like I am a stranger he just met.“What is going on?” I demand, raising my chin. They don’t answer. Dash simply steps forward, grabs my arm, and starts dragging me across the compound without a word. The other man follows, his weapon never leaving his grip.I glance around as they pull me forward, and I see faces peek from behind

INGRID.As we drive down unfamiliar roads, I keep stealing glances at Lucian from the corner of my eye.I have to admit, he looks really good. Way better than he did with that long hair. This new look suits him."I can see how you're looking at him, Ingrid," Kira's voice teases in my head, full of amusement.I try to ignore her but she keeps giggling, and it becomes louder by the second. "Your feelings for him are getting stronger by the day.""Stop it!" I blurt out, louder than I intended.Lucian’s brow furrows as he glances at me. "Stop what?"My eyes widen and I shake my head. "Oh—uh—I was talking to my wolf," I say quickly. He narrows his gaze slightly, then shifts his attention back to the road."So... what's the plan?" I ask clearing my throat.Lucian glances out the window, then back at me. "I haven’t thought about it yet."I groan, smacking my palm against my forehead. "So..we're just walking in blind?" I ask, my hands starting to sweat from anxiety."Feel free to help me come

  • THE WOLF WITHIN:CLAIMED BY THE ALPHA   CHAPTER 090

LUCIANAs I run barefoot through the woods, I can feel the cool night air burning against my skin.Suddenly, something sharp pierces my foot and I stumble, crashing to the ground with a scream. Pain shoots up my leg, and I curl into myself, clutching it tightly to my chest."You couldn’t finish a simple test?" a cold voice mocks before the figure crouches to my level."You're weak, son. A tiny nail has made you scream like a little girl?" My father’s face emerges from the dark, his eyes glowing red with disappointment."This is why you’ll never become Alpha. I wish your sister were still alive—we could’ve given her the pack," he sneers."I’m not weak," I whisper my teeth clenched. "It just hurts."He yanks me up by the arm swinging me left and right. "You dare talk back to me, Lucian?" he growls, before shoving me away. "Find your way home."Then he vanishes into the trees. He leaves me all alone, surrounded by unfamiliar woods. My foot throbs, but I push through the pain, limping tow

INGRIDSleep finally claims Lucian, and he dozes off on the couch in the study.I, on the other hand, feel restless. I asked Kira to help me stay alert and focused while waiting for the email, and she obliged. She doesn’t speak, but her presence in the back of my mind helps me stay grounded, awake, and less alone in this whirlwind of chaos.Suddenly, I hear a sharp ping—the unmistakable sound of an incoming email. My heart leaps as I rush to the desk, and open the computer, my fingers trembling as I tap the mouse. The subject line reads: "Account Activity Confirmed."Seeing this, my pulse begins to thunder in my ears, and without hesitation, I open it.The screen floods with unfamiliar data—numbers, account codes, transaction logs—all unreadable to me.I spin on my heel and walk toward Lucian, who is half-curled on the couch, his arm over his eyes.I don’t hesitate. I nudge him hard. “Lucian, wake up!” I yell, practically towering over him.He jolts upright, his eyes blinking rapidly,

  • THE WOLF WITHIN:CLAIMED BY THE ALPHA   CHAPTER 087

INGRIDIt’s been three days since we uncovered the truth about Lucian’s parents—and since we slept together for the second time.I haven’t had a moment to fully process any of it because too much is happening.Between the betrayal we discovered in those journals, the emotional storm we’ve both been riding, and the lingering tension between us, everything feels like a blur.We haven’t made any decisions yet about what to do with the information we found. And despite everything, neither of us has mentioned going back home. Probably because we both are too afraid of what we’ll find once we return.Lucian’s been quieter and even withdrawn, which I totally get. Because if I found out my parents were killers, it would rip me apart, too.But I’ve been thinking. I had an idea that might just turn the tide in our favor. If the hunters—Silas, or rather, Logan, now, assuming Silas is really dead—are still being funded, then that funding has to come from somewhere. If we can find the money trail L

  • THE WOLF WITHIN:CLAIMED BY THE ALPHA   CHAPTER 086

LUCIANI gaze down at her, both of us frozen in the moment.Slowly, I tilt my head down, our foreheads coming together. I lean in closer, waiting for her to make the first move, just to be sure she desires me as much as I crave her.My lips hover just above hers as we share shallow breaths."Are you going to kiss me or not, Lucian?" she barks out, impatient. I don't waste another second; my mouth meets hers, and I kiss her with desperate urgency. My hands move to the back of her neck, closing the remaining distance between us, and in response, her hands find their way to my back, grasping tightly enough for me to feel her nails digging in.Today, she's different from the other day; she is hungrier for me, which only fuels my own desire.I spin her around and pin her against the pool wall, my fingers slowly sliding up her inner thighs. She lets out a small moan and spreads her legs, granting me permission.I slip a finger beneath her panties, and tease her by gently caressing her clit.

  • THE WOLF WITHIN:CLAIMED BY THE ALPHA   CHAPTER 085

LUCIAN.I couldn’t believe what I was reading. Each page felt like a dagger to the heart — like I was being dragged deeper into a truth I never asked for.At first, I told myself the journals were just stories. Just fiction. Maybe even training manuals or old records from long ago.But the moment I read the words rogues and torture, the denial started to crumble.Page after page, it got worse. They had brought in a hunter and made a deal with him.His job was to “reform” the rogues or eliminate them if they were too violent. As if reforming ever meant to torture.I start to imagine how they might have convinced themselves they were doing it for the good of the pack. For peace, even order. But peace doesn’t come from pain. And order can never be built on blood. After Ingrid left the room, I found myself sifting through the letters and the rest of the journals she had tried to show me earlier — the ones I refused to believe.Among them, I found another journal. This one was my mother’s.

LUCIAN"So, who is Thomas Blackwood?" Lucian asks, pointing to the name scrawled at the bottom of the parchment.I stretch out my hand, pick up the hunter's manual, and place it in front of him."Probably the same man who wrote this," I mutter, my eyes flicking between the book and the letter.Lucian opens the manual and begins flipping through its pages, starting slowly and then speeding up.With every line he reads, I see the shift in his expression. His jaw clenches, and his hands curl into fists, followed by his eyes beginning to burn red with fury."They did all these things to me, Ingrid, everything written in this book," he blurts, slamming the book shut.I nod silently, sympathizing with him."Is he the author?" Lucian asks, his eyes locking with mine.I shake my head quickly. "No. But I think... his father was."Lucian jolts up so fast his chair screeches backward. He slams his hand down on the desk with force that a cloud of dust bursts into the air.I cough as it fills my l
