CHAPTER 7 - Another Mate

SKYLER’S POV

I am woken up by Katie snoring in my ear. I laughed quietly to myself and slowly slide out of the bed so I don’t wake her and head into the bathroom. Once I was finished in the bathroom, I walked back into the bedroom and checked the time; it was still early but not the 5:30 am I was required to be up at home; I had to make sure that breakfast for the pack was made and ready for them to make big pigs of themselves at 7 am. I sigh, as I know now that I am awake. There is no way I am going to get back to sleep, so I step into my closet and picked out some of my new clothes to wear. I put on some underwear that has a matching bra, I then pick some slim-fitting black jeans and a loose-fitting long-sleeved purple blouse.

Satisfied with my new outfit, I make my way down to the kitchen to get myself some breakfast. As I pulled out the eggs and bacon from the fridge and went on a search for a cooking pan, I decided I would surprise both Elijah and Cole by bringing them some breakfast, too. I pulled out 3 plates as I found them and then when I finally found a pan, after looking in nearly every cupboard, I turned the stove on and started cooking the bacon. I had just finished the bacon and started the eggs when 3 giggling girls walked into the kitchen. I had gotten into the habit of not acknowledging when anyone came into the kitchen while I was cooking because it only ever ended with whoever had entered calling me names or they would beat me without my father or brother knowing, so I didn’t turn around until the one in front starts to talk.

“Look girls, the Alpha’s have gotten us a new kitchen slave... Maxine? Alexis? What would you like for breakfast this fine morning?”

“Oh! I don’t know, maybe some eggs and bacon...”

All 3 of them laugh. I don’t react as I know her type and there is no way she and her friends would eat eggs and bacon. Too much fat...

“Oh! I’m sorry, no one told me that I had to cook for anyone but me and the Alphas... I’m their new personal cook, I don’t cook for the sluts of the pack”

I surprised myself as I smirk at them and say with confidence and some sarcasm and a little attitude that I didn’t realize I actually had in me until I had spent some time in Katie’s company. I then continue to put the cooked eggs and bacon on the 3 plates. The original girl takes a few steps up to me growing.

“Who do you think you are talking to me like that?! I’m the soon-to-be Luna and you will do what I tell you, and that is to make me and my friends a healthy breakfast.”

Alice then growled in my head, wanting to teach this slut a thing or two about who was actually in charge around here and at the implication that she was in any way connected to either one of my mates. I fight Alice and ignore the girl as I grab a tray and start to put the 3 plates on it so I can take them upstairs to Elijah and Cole. This girl however didn’t seem too happy with me ignoring her, so she stepped closer grabs the tray, and pushes it up into my chest cursing me to fall backward onto the floor, I will no doubt have a couple of burns on my chest from the hot food as it takes me a little bit to be able to remove all the eggs and bacon from both on and inside my blouse... The 3 girls just stand there and burst out laughing.

“Jen! Maxine! Alexis! What is going on in here?”

A sexy male voice growled as what seemed to be another Alpha entered the kitchen behind the girls.

“Oh! Nathan! It’s good to see you back. I was just teaching the new kitchen slave... I mean kitchen hand, who is in leadership around here.”

The girl that pushed the tray into me says as she turns to face the male now standing in the kitchen doorway. She then moved around the 2 other girls, moving up to him and snaking her arms around the man’s, Nathan’s, neck.

“Jen! You, my dear, no matter how much you want to be, are not in any way part of the high ranks around here. You may have sex with them, but that doesn’t make you one of them. You also know that we don’t treat anyone, no matter who they are or what rank they are like. They are lesser than us... We don’t have a new kitchen hand Jen and it’s the weekend so you know you are required to get your own breakfast...”

Nathan growls as he untangles her arms away from his neck and makes her step back from him. While they are talking, I finish fishing all the bacon and eggs out of my blouse and slowly pick myself up off the floor. I then look back down at the mess on the floor. I sigh to myself and move to clean up the mess that Jen coursed. I thought his attention was too focused on that Jen girl to worry about what I was doing but even my small movements made the guy named Nathan move his gaze towards me, my eyes lock with his green ones as they turned a shining gold and he growled low and deep.

“MATE“

“Oh! Nathan, I’ve been waiting so long for you to say that!!”

Jen says as she puts her hands back onto his cheeks, trying to make Nathan look at her, while she moves onto her toes and kissed him.

“MATE“

Alice whispers in my head and then whimpers again as I stand frozen and watch as Jen wraps her arms back around him and kisses him again and again. I don’t hear or see what happens next or what Nathan’s reply is as I then move to the back door. I open it and run outside. I then shift as I enter the woods. I need some time to think this over and what it all means to us. Alice and I stop as I turn inward.

“Alice, another Alpha mate, how is this possible? Did I do something wrong? Am I being punished for what happened to my mother?”

“Don’t be silly Skyler! We have Alpha mates because we are an Alpha ourselves. What I don’t understand is why did our mate allow her to touch and kiss him?”

“I don’t know, Alice. Maybe she is his girlfriend. Alpha’s can have whoever they want, whenever they want, and can do whatever they want... Father taught me that!”

Alice then cuts the link, knowing that I was right. As she shared my memories after our first shift, we let out a long loud howl of sadness and then start running again.

COLE’S POV

I wake up with a start, hearing a long howl of sadness that sounded a lot like Skyler. I get a bad feeling and a shiver runs through me. I quickly get out of bed, pull on some sweatpants, and move out of my room, heading to where we agreed Skyler could stay if she wasn’t with one of us. I don’t pay attention to anything but checking on Skyler, I then bump into something hard and end up on my arse. I look up and see Elijah sitting on his arse as well, in only his sweatpants, heading to Skyler’s room too.

“Did you hear and feel it too?”

“Yes, Skyler?”

“Skyler!”

I growl low and laugh a little, just like Elijah does. We then help each other up, as we get to our feet and turn towards Skyler’s door to see it open and Katie standing there rubbing the sleep out of her eyes. “Come on, guys, it’s still early. What’s going on?” she asked, yawning again.

“Is Skyler in there?” Elijah and I asked at the same time.

“No, I was woken up by you 2 making all the racket out here. She is not in here as far as I can tell...”

“Do you know where she is?”

“Noppe!” Katie said popping the p, she then continued “Maybe she woke up and got hungry, you should try the kitchen.”

We then make our way down the stairs to the kitchen. As we get closer to the kitchen, we hear Nathan yelling at Jen and her friends. She has tried more than once to convince me to take her to my bed and I did once when I was younger, but I was that drunk I don’t remember much. I wouldn’t be surprised if Xander just wanted some fun and she was the only one around.

She is one that I just can’t bring myself to touch again, especially sober; I don’t even think Xander would take her to bed again; she wants something that we would never give her. I have taken other females to my bed, or at least to bed in one of the guest rooms. My bed is for my mate only. Jen does not have the right attitude and only thinks of herself, so she would never be a good Luna, well not in this pack, anyway.

“JEN! If you were my mate, I would have called you that a long time ago when you first turned 18... NOW GET OFF ME!! MAXINE! ALEXIS! HELP JEN CLEAN UP THIS MESS!“

Nathan yells as he pulls Jen’s hands off of his neck and pushes her away. His wolf Xaiden comes to the surface. “But Nathan, that is what the new help is for...”

“What new help? I don’t see anyone but the 3 of you.”

Once Jen and her friends do as they are told and clean the mess on the floor, Elijah leans on the doorframe to the kitchen with his arms crossed and spoke to Nathan

“Hey, Nathan! You're back early? Have you seen Skyler?”

He turns his attention away from Jen and her friends and faces us as he answers,

“Yeah, it was just a simple resigning of the alliance and protection contracts. Then it was just a matter of getting rid of a small group of pesky rogues that were hassling the pack. Nothing to it!”

Nathan then frowns at us as he asks, “Who is Skyler?”

“She’s our mate! I found and brought her home 2 days ago,” I say, moving up from behind Elijah, smirking.

“I guess that was the girl laying on the floor, that Jen and her friends here were harassing when I came in. It also explains why Jen said we had some new help.”

“Okay, so where is she now?”

“She ran out the back door after Xaiden took control said something and then he gave me back control as Jen kissed me.”

I then get a tug on the pack mind link. I open mine and feel that Elijah and Nathan do the same, as Alexander our Third in command and Head Warrior says with urgency.

“ALPHAS!! There are rogues at the Eastern border fighting with a small grey she-wolf!”

“On our way, Alexander, Help her as much as you can, and don’t let her leave.“

“Yes, Alpha’s!”

We all growl loudly and run out the back door. We jump down the steps, shifting midair and landing on all fours. We don’t stop as we run towards the eastern border. I have a bad feeling that the she-wolf Alexander was talking about is our Skyler.
