VELARA’S POV

It always starts without warning.

One moment, I’m resting, cocooned in a brief and precious sliver of sleep. The next, I’m ripped from it by a brutal wave of pain so sharp it robs the breath from my lungs. My chest feels like it’s being pounded from the inside, my heart hammering against my ribs as if trying to escape. And my stomach… oh, my stomach tightens with a burning twist that forces a whimper out of me before I can stop it. I wrap my arms around my abdomen, curling into myself as I press my lips together, desperate not to cry out. I can’t wake Elysia again. She’s already been losing sleep because of me. Every night I disturb her with my moans, my thrashing, my whispered sobs. And still, she stays close, always watching me with concern etched into her face.

But tonight is different. This pain is worse. Deeper. Sharper. It claws at my insides with vicious intent, as though punishing me for something I didn't do. I know why. I can feel it. He’s not just flirting, not

  • TO DENY A LUNA   CHAPTER 161: EMPTY APARTMENT

DAMON'S POV“Vel!” I shouted as I climbed the steps to her apartment, pushing the door open without hesitation. Silence greeted me. Kael slipped off to his room while I heard Elysia’s footsteps approaching from behind. Moving further inside, I checked her room and found her uniform lying untouched on the bed. Unease crept over me as I walked back toward the living room just as Elysia entered, dropping Selene’s belongings on the table.“Did you see Velara anywhere? She didn’t respond when I tried calling her earlier,” I asked, my voice tight with concern.Elysia shook her head. “She was at the restaurant not long ago. I assumed she’d already be here.” She shrugged carelessly before adding, “Maybe check with Baltazar? He was on duty today, wasn’t he?”“No, he had a border patrol meeting,” I muttered, frustration rising as she reached for her phone.Moments later, she frowned at her screen. “She went out running in the reserve,” Elysia said.I snatched the phone from her hand and stared

  • TO DENY A LUNA   CHAPTER 160: A CHILD'S TOUCH

VELARA'S POVAt last, things are back in order, and I realize I cannot postpone this any longer. With Kael still occupied with his father for a few more hours, I decide to head out to the reserve and finally allow myself to shift. I had delayed it after the chaos with the forsaken and the missing rogues, mostly because I promised Kael I would take him with me the next time. Yet, that is a promise I cannot keep without endangering him. The risk is too high, and I cannot bear to drag him into it. It has been far too long since I last shifted, and the thought of the pain that always comes with it makes me hesitate. My body tenses at the memory of how brutal that transformation can be.I push through the gate, adjusting the small backpack on my shoulder before scanning the area. The silence unsettles me. The forest feels eerily quiet, the kind of stillness that presses into your bones and makes your instincts scream. Something is wrong, yet I came here with purpose, and I need to see it t

  • TO DENY A LUNA   CHAPTER 159: LETTER FOR KAEL

DAMON'S POVThree hours earlierThe moment I wake, my mind is a storm of scattered thoughts. Velara is still resting quietly beside me, her breathing steady, but I resist the urge to disturb her peace. I turn to the side and notice the letter from my mother lying nearby. The memories of yesterday’s discovery in the storage shed weigh heavily on me, opening my eyes to the hardships she endured. When I was young, my father never once spoke ill of her. The only thing he would say was that she was an Omega and that he loved her. What he kept hidden was that she had refused to follow the traditions of our kind. He never once revealed she had been one of the first rogues, stripped of the land that once belonged to her people. For hours, I had dug through that old storage unit, uncovering the truth of her sacrifices. This entire city had once belonged to her family. My grandparents, hoping to secure a brighter future for their daughter, had sold portions of the land to different packs. They

  • TO DENY A LUNA   CHAPTER 158: THE LETTER

VELARA'S POVI am not sure how late it is when Damon finally slips into the room, but I sense the mattress dip before I feel him curl against my back. His warmth is comforting, yet when I wake later, he is already gone, and the sheets on his side are icy to the touch. My chest tightens as I wonder what time he left and why he slipped away so quietly. My eyes fall on Valarie’s letter resting on the bedside table, already opened. Carefully, I pick it up, slide it back into its envelope, and tuck it inside the top drawer where it will be safe from damage.I rush through dressing for work, pulling clothes on in a frenzy. Dante has already taken Selene to school for Elysia, sparing us one task. Elysia herself is darting around the room, wobbling on one foot as she forces her shoe on, both of us already late. Alaric handled Kael’s drop-off earlier and even sent me a photo of the two

  • TO DENY A LUNA   CHAPTER 157: FATE UNVIELED

VELARA'S POVI looked at him with a firmness that came from deep within. “She was always watching you. You just never realized it. She kept her eyes on you your whole life. Do not let her memory be tarnished by watching you fall apart,” I whispered, pushing the letter into his hands. He hesitated, his fingers brushing over the envelope before he finally glanced down at the name written on the front. “What’s this?” he asked, his voice hoarse.“A letter from Lilith,” I explained softly. “It came in the mail a couple of weeks after her funeral, along with a few others.” I studied his expression as he slowly turned the letter over between his fingers, as if unsure whether he had the strength to open it. My chest tightened, and I shook my head before grabbing my bag from the counter. I started toward the door, ready to leave him with his thoughts.

  • TO DENY A LUNA   CHAPTER 156: FRACTURES

VELARA'S POVAlaric groaned, his voice breaking as he whispered, “I am so sorry, son.” Turning my head, I glanced at him. His face was so swollen and bruised that he was barely recognizable. He coughed harshly before slipping his fingers into his mouth and pulling out a tooth. Damon’s response came in the form of a low, dangerous growl while I rushed to help Alaric rise to his feet. Behind me, the sickening sound of cracking bones echoed as Damon shifted back into his human form.Keeping my arm around Alaric, who staggered with unsteady legs, I helped guide him toward his car. Reaching into his pocket, I pulled out his keys and unlocked the door for him. He sank heavily into the seat with a hiss of pain. “I will be fine, dear. Go check on my son,” he muttered through clenched teeth. Nodding, I turned and saw Damon already walking toward his own car.“Damon?” I called softly. He stopped and looked back at me. The expression on his face froze me in my tracks.“You knew,” he accused, his
