CHAPTER 130: THE SMOKE THAT SAVED US

KIMBERLY:

My heart stopped. I looked up, scanning the sky through the gaps in the trees. And then I saw it — a gray helicopter gliding over the horizon.

“Oh my God!” I screamed. “They’re here! Damien, they’re here!”

Damien jumped to his feet and started waving both arms. “Over here! Hey! We’re down here!”

I grabbed a branch, waving it like crazy, yelling till my throat burned. “Help! We’re here! Please!”

The chopper moved closer, the sound filling the air. The wind from the blades whipped through the trees. The fire’s smoke rose higher, catching their attention.

“They see us!” I shouted, crying and laughing at the same time. “They see us, Damien!”

He laughed too, tears in his eyes. “Told you, baby. Told you we’d make it.”

The helicopter hovered above the river. Someone leaned out, waving back. Then they dropped a rope ladder.

I couldn’t stop crying. “We’re going home…”

Damien helped me to my feet, holding me tight. “Ladies first,” he said softly.

  • TRADING MY EX FOR HIS STEP BROTHER    MAKING OUR FIRST FIRE IN THE FOREST

CHAPTER 129: MAKING OUR FIRST FIRE IN THE FOREST DAMIEN:It has been close to a week since our plane crashed here. And we have tried to attract attention. But nothing seems to have worked. Kim was beginning to lose hope of us being rescued but I kept faith alive in my heart. The morning came cold again. My whole body hurt like hell, but Kim looked worse. Her lips were dry, her skin pale, and her eyes barely open. She tried to smile at me but couldn’t hold it for long.“Hey, you okay?” I asked, brushing dirt off her cheek. She gave a weak nod. “Yeah… just tired. So tired, Damien.”“Don’t talk like that, baby,” I said softly, forcing a grin. “We made it this far. We ain’t dying in no damn forest.”I got up and looked around. The trees stretched forever, green and quiet, like they were laughing at us. We’d been here almost a week since the crash. Every day felt like a year. The fruits we’d been eating were almost gone. I knew Kim needed more than that, but I didn’t have anything else t

  • TRADING MY EX FOR HIS STEP BROTHER    WE'RE HERE!

CHAPTER 128: WE'RE HERE!DAMIEN:I cursed under my breath, kicking a stone into the water. “Yeah. We’d eat ‘em raw and probably poison ourselves. Fruits it is then.”I told her to go back to the new shelter, but she shook her head stubbornly. “No. I’m not letting you go off alone. What if something happens to you?”I didn’t want to argue, not when her voice cracked like that. So we went together, deeper into the forest where I’d spotted some ripe fruits earlier. We picked as much as we could carry, piling them into my torn shirt that I’d tied like a sack.“Not bad, huh?” I said, trying to lighten the mood.Kim nodded, wiping sweat from her forehead. “Yeah. At least we won’t starve today.”We turned to head back, and that’s when we heard a sound. It was low, deep, and almost like thunder. And it echoed above us. I stopped dead, my head snapping up. Kim froze too, her eyes wide.“Do you hear that?” she whispered.I grinned before I even saw it. “That’s a chopper!”Her face lit up instan

  • TRADING MY EX FOR HIS STEP BROTHER    THIS TASTES LIKE HOPE

CHAPTER 127: THIS TASTES LIKE HOPE DAMIEN:Our night wasn't a pleasant one. The soft leaves I had used to make a mattress was a far cry from the comfortable bed we had at home. And one bug after another kept crawling all around our bodies. Kim rested her head against my chest, wincing every so often from her injuries. I held her tighter, my hand rubbing her arm.I was worried about Kim more than I worried for myself. But we lived to the break of dawn.As the sun filtered through the makeshift shelter, I blinked repeatedly and opened my eyes. Kim was in a sitting position, staring at me. “Good morning,” she said, as she scratched her arms and legs.I put my arms around her waist and pulled her closer. “Are you okay?”She nodded. But I knew she wasn't okay. I checked her wounds. Blood had dried, but she was still weak. There were red marks on most parts of her body where bugs had bitten her. As I stared at those marks, her stomach growled. We both needed food. My stomach had been gro

  • TRADING MY EX FOR HIS STEP BROTHER    YOU'RE SO TIGHT, BABY

CHAPTER 126: YOU'RE SO TIGHT, BABY KIMBERLY:Damien kissed me softly at first, our lips moving slow, entangled in a dance of passion. His hands wrapped around my neck, pulling me closer. My hands traced over his body gently, and his hands caressed my sensitive parts carefully, trying not to hurt my injuries. This moment was meant to let him know I was his and he was mine.Damien zipped down my gown, exposing my lacy white bra. Then his hands curled to my back and he unhooked my bra. My breasts bounced out, my nipples hard and pointy. His thumb grazed the tip of my nipples and I shuddered down my spine. “You're perfect,” Damien whispered seductively. “You have the body of a goddess.”My lips were parted but I couldn't utter a word. The cold faded as my body began to heat up. All that was left was us, tangled in love, whispering promises that felt endless.“Damien,” I gasped softly, as his lips lowered to my nipples. His breath felt warm against my skin. “Promise me…”“What, baby?” H

  • TRADING MY EX FOR HIS STEP BROTHER    I NEED YOU

CHAPTER 125: I NEED YOU DAMIEN:Night has fallen and the sky has no stars. I stared at my unconscious wife and wondered what we had done to deserve a second chance. We had no shelter, no warmth and no food. But we had life and we had each other. And that was what mattered the most.I stared at Kim's beautiful face and sighed. I covered her injuries as much as I could, wrapped her in my arms and prayed for her to wake up. “Baby, I need you to wake up,” I whispered, my throat raw. “We’re not done yet. You hear me? You can’t leave me like this.”Miracles indeed do happen because it didn't take long after my prayers before she sneezed and her eyes fluttered open. She stared at my face for quite a while and it seemed she didn't recognise me. I smiled and planted a warm kiss on her lips.“Honey,” I said affectionately. “You're awake. Thank goodness!”She blinked repeatedly and wrapped her arms around my neck. “Damien.. where are we?”I heaved a huge sigh when she mentioned my name. I had
