LOGINCHAPTER 4
DAMIAN’S POV
It’s taking Orion sometime to locate this said heir, and my patience has been wearing thin.
The suspense is killing me.
In the past few days since the news came I have been going back and forth—thinking about how strong he is, whether he his better than me and whether he could actually lead having spent his entire life in the human world.
I hate those thoughts.
I am not one to have inferiority complex to some lowlife, but since this news was announced I can’t seem to shake the feeling that I am in for a serious challenge.
The Alpha’s chamber have been evacuated by my father. On a good day, I would have been excited—because that chamber would have been mine—but now, a godforsaken heir is suppose to take over.
My place.
My position.
My kingdom.
A knock startles me out my thoughts.
“Who could it be?” I mutter to myself. Rowan opens the door and steps in, I should have guessed—he is the only one that knocks once.
“What can I do for you?” I asked him.
“That is no way to talk to your sweet brother who is still recovering from all the beatings you gave me,” He replied, a smirk playing at the edge of his lips.
“If I wasn’t already exhausted, I’d hit you again,” I told him.
He chuckled loudly.
“Well, Eldric wants you, the Elder Coucil are gathering,” Rowan said.
Rowan has never been able to call my father dad. He doesn’t see him as and neither do I.
Eldric has never been a dad to me, he just has the title of a father.
I don’t call Ophelia mom either—not out of spite, but because she can’t replace my mom.
Rowan and I have both come to a understanding that the ones we lost can’t be replaced.
My heart aches a little at the thought of my mom.
So, I am guessing Orion located him,” I said
“Possibly. Even the Spiritfang is here.” He told me. “Mima also said she and the kitchen staff are preparing a feast—so after meeting him we eat on a large table pretending to actually want to be there.”
Well, let’s go and meet our Alpha,” I said sarcastically.
“Promise you will behave,” Rowan said, looking at me as though I was a dog that needed taming.
“Why? You think I am going to rip his neck off the minute he shows up?” I replied My wolf growled at the thought.
“No, but I don’t want you doing something that could jeopardize you.”
“What makes you think I still have something to protect?” I asked.
“You don’t know who this guy is maybe the kingdom would prefer you to him,” he said
“I am not special Rowan,” I answered him getting up to leave the room—ready to meet the Council of Elders and this supposed heir.
****
On the walk to the Chamber of the Elder of Council, I made a stop at the kitchen, Rowan at my side because I couldn’t get the smell of Mima’s cream bun out of my head.
They’ve always been my favorite.
Stepping into the kitchen, I see Mima scolding a maid. The girl seems new I have a way of remembering faces, this one seems unfamiliar.
“Mima,” Rowan called out to her to get her attention. She looked over her shoulder at us, her gaze softening when she sees us, and came over.
“You are here for my cream buns again, aren’t you?” Mima asked grabbing our cheeks playfully. “But you can’t have any.”
“Why is that?” I demanded.
“Because they’re for the feast— and they’ve have already been plated I want everything to be perfect you know how I am,” she replied quickly. Already moving to the stove to get more work done.
“So you are saying you didn’t save any for me? Even if you didn’t save for Damian, there is no way you didn’t save for me. I am your favorite,” Rowan said.
“And who said you are my favorite? I don’t play favorites,” Mima told him.
I chuckle. “it seems my mood is a bit brightened—even though I didn’t get to have any cream bun.”
“It’s going to be okay, wild one.” Mima said looking directly at me.
She’s called me wild one since I was a kid because always get into one kind of trouble or the other since I was kid.
I smiled at her, leaving the kitchen, Rowan trailing slowly behind.
The elder of council chamber was located a little bit away from the throne room, and with every step I made closer to the double doors that covered the room behind, my heart thumped louder.
The walk to the kitchen wasn’t just for cream buns—it was to avoid this room a bit longer. I admit to myself as I step in front of the double doors ready to open.
“I’ll be see you in dining hall when this is over,” Rowan said.
He wasn’t allowed in, only a few can enter into this chamber—the five Elders, the spiritfang, the next Alpha, and those that are to be judged or punished besides that not anyone can come in.
And for a moment, I realize I might never step into this room after now and I hated the thought.
Opening the doors, five sets of eyes look my way and I realize. Everyone was waiting for me.
Eldric is seated across the Spiritfang—who despite his blindness sits powerfully at the head of the table.
Thalos Greymane is seated at my father’s left side. I am to marry his daughter.
His wife is seated right beside him, Thalindra Greymane.
Eira Wolfshade and Kaelen Throneclaw are the remaining two Elders that complete this table, and it has been this way for the longest time. All chosen by the Moonspirit.
I take the seat at my father’s right hand.
The moment I am seated my father looks to me the look of disgust etched across his face.
You don’t get to make everyone here wait for you. We don’t—
The doors open again.
Orion steps in, at his side is a girl.
Her hair is the first thing I noticed. She had wild red hair that caught the light like fire and refused to stay tamed. It made her amber glass eyes pop.
She carries herself with so much confidence, masking her pain—but I can still see it.
It’s a pain I recognize.
“Wel…come, Alpha,” the spiritfang says, pulling me out of my thoughts.
Right. Where was this Alpha? Was he invisible?
I glance around the table and everyone seemed as confused as I am.
My father turns to Orion, clearly unamused.
“Where is he?” Eldric asked.
“She,” Orion replies. “And she is right here.”
I freeze.
This has to be a joke.
The next Alpha…is a girl.
CHAPTER 78RAVEN’S POVThe room was too quiet after Damien left—the kind of quiet that pierced through your ears, one that gave you access to every sound. Damien promised he’d be back. I had begged him for some time alone. I needed time to process my thoughts and everything else. The fact that I had to remain here without Mira. I was grateful for Damien—for his comfort, his presence. There was a time where Damien and I couldn’t stand being in tge same room together. Now… The silence he left behind felt wrong. I sat on the edge of my bed, Mira’s letter still clutched in my hands. The parchment had begun to wrinkle where my fingers held it too tightly, but I couldn’t bring myself to loosen my grip. Her words echoed in my head.I love you, Raven. My chest tightened again. For a moment, I simply stared at the floor, trying to steady my breathing. My eyes burned from crying, but the tears had finally stopped. Not because the p
CHAPTER 77DAMIEN’S POVI burst the doors to the chambers open. I had told Raven to call my name if she wanted to leave. I had sat in countless meetings with the Elders; I knew their words could be overbearing. But she didn’t need that now—not when she had just lost Mira. I wanted her to know that I could come get her out if she felt suffocated and couldn’t leave. And although she hadn’t called for me I felt it through the bond. I felt her.The panic. The anger. The betrayal. It hit me like a violent wave, knocking the air from my lungs even before I moved. The moment I stepped inside, every Elder turned toward me in outrage. My eyes went straight to Raven.Seeing her, I knew I was right to have opened the door. She stood in the center of the room, rigid. Her fists were clenched at her sides. Her breathing uneven. But it was her eyes that did it. She looked hurt—shattered—like she was about to break down but was only ho
CHAPTER 76RAVEN’S POV Orion suggested we returned to the palace to talk after breaking it to him that Adrian shown up. But I refused to leave Mira on the cold ground. Damien took Rowan aside to tell him what had happened with Mira. He thought it was best if Rowan heard it from him, but I couldn’t understand why. It wasn’t as though they were anything other than Master and Slave. Orion called two post guard to lift Mira’s body. When they moved her, something inside me cracked.“I’m going with her,” I said.“No,” Orion replied firmly. “You need to return to the palace. The Elders are already gathering.”“I don’t care about the Elders,” I whispered. But he stepped closer, lowering his voice. “You are Alpha. You cannot face them covered in blood.”I looked down at myself then. Mira’s blood had dried against my skin.I swallowed hard.I wanted to go with her. I wanted to kneel beside her one last time. I wanted to ap
CHAPTER 75DAMIEN’S POVAdrian was ruthless, calculative, and manipulative. But it wasn’t just him. It was the entire Nightshroud pack. I had read tales about them growing up—their people and even their leaders. When they wanted something they got it, even if it meant taking it by force. So when those words left his mouth, I wasn’t shocked. “She is Nightshroud,” he said, gesturing to Iris. I didn’t know Iris, but I had seen her a few times in the palace. “Mira knew,” Adrian added casually. “Or at least she suspected.” “That’s impossible,” Raven said, her voice already losing composure. “You are lying.” “Am I?” He replied smoothly. “I don’t think so, darling. If I were lying, why was she within the hunting grounds?” “You are twisting this,” Raven shot back defensively. “You crossed my boarders and trespassed on a sacred night, and you think I am going to believe anything you say when you are clea
CHAPTER 74RAVEN’S POVScreams tore through the air, and my eyes blinked open. I didn’t know when I fell asleep. I was cold and confused as to where I was. Then everything came rushing back, and my blood ran cold. I stilled. Then I felt strong arms warpped around me, grounding me. I looked up and I saw Damien’s forest green eyes staring back at me. A storm of emotions passed through his eyes but I couldn’t decipher any of it. All my mind would allow me focus on was one thing. I had killed Mira. She was dead because of me. Another scream tore through the forest, and this time it was louder than before. I felt it then. “He is here,” I said slowly. “Who?” Damien asked. But the moment the question left his mouth, he stiffened when he realized who it was I was talking about. Adrian. He was here. And one way or another he had crossed the border without
CHAPTER 73 DAMIEN’S POV Before the hunt, Kiara had come to remind me about the fact that I had to mark her. At first, it hadn’t seemed like a difficult thing to do I might not have had feelings for Kiara, but she was betrothed to me and it was a marriage of duty. But now, I was struggling. I couldn’t name the sudden distress I felt at the thought that I had to mark her has mine forever. The closer it got to the time of the hunt, the more pressure I felt about the whole situation. I didn’t just feel distress. I felt anger. I felt hurt. It was supposed to be my first hunt The moment Raven stepped within the parameters of the forest, I couldn’t take my eyes off her. She looked like she was made to rule. Raven finally declared the hunt open, my wolf had been on edge since the moon started to rise. It was a full moon so it had that effect. The moment she declared the hunt open, I shifted but I had to tam
CHAPTER 59DAMIEN’S POVMima practically raised Rowan and me. She knew the both of us in ways our own parents didn’t.So the disappointment in her eyes over our fight wasn’t shocking. When Rowan first got here with Ophelia, I hated him—and I hated his mom as well.
CHAPTER 58 DAMIEN’S POVI couldn’t believe everything I had seen. Raven was a Moonsworn healer.Moonsworn healers were a rare wolf type. I never really stood a chance at leading the kingdom.Without Raven even growing amongst the strongest wolves, she had beco
CHAPTER 57RAVEN’S POVDamien didn’t say a word through the ride back to the palace, and I didn’t say a word either. When we arrived, he brought me straight to his room and began searching for something frantically.I was shocked, and still engulfed with fear, but I couldn’t unde
CHAPTER 56 RAVEN’S POV Damien’s words kept ringing in my ears. When I decided to wear the locket to the party, I hadn’t thought much of it. All I wanted was that my parents and family be close to me as I had to step into their role. The locket hadn’t been designed by his mother—so w
