SELENA'S POV:
THAT NIGHT: “Why didn't we first stop by the house to change? I'm so tired and I bet everyone can see how exhausted I am through my eyes and this cloth I have on. I look like a mess.” I complained to Henry as the GPS announced we were five minutes away. “I've seen people looking a mess and trust me, you look nothing like that, you look amazing, smell so good and look like the most sexy CEO I have ever laid my eyes on.” A fuzzy feeling spread across my chest at the sound of that and my cheeks might have turned a shade of pink seeing the sincerity in his eyes. “Plus the truth is, we are running a bit late and my mum might have called a couple of times but Olivia assured me she was running late as well and my mum totally understands.” He informed me and I glanced at the time seeing it was already fifteen minutes after, both our meetings had run longer than we had expected. I hate being late so bad. I wanted to ask why Olivia didn't just come with him since she works in the legal team of their family's company but I was distracted by the most jaw-dropping exterior of the mansion I had ever seen as we pulled into the driveway. “The home I grew up in is nothing as beautiful as this and I've not seen how inside is.” I told him and he chuckled looking up from his iPad. “Cherry was just as in love.” He said, but I kept wondering who was this lady who he brought up every once in a while. They seemed to have grown up together, my greatest guess was that she was his family friend who he eventually dated. He always had a smile on his face when he talked about it and Olivia was all smiles when she talked about her as well. We hopped out of the car, and held hands entering into the magnificent home, and we were instantly embraced by its warmth but expensive artworks. “They're here!” A middle aged woman announced with a big smile on her face and Henry instantly embraced her. “Selena, this is Nanny Solidat.” He introduced me and I was about to stretch my hand for a handshake when she pulled me for a hug. “Welcome Selena! If you need any embarrassing story about this kid right here, I'm always available.” She told me wiggling her eyebrow and I laughed, responding, “I will keep that in mind.” “I like her.” She whispered to Henry and about four others walked towards us in excitement. Henry's parents, Olivia and another man I had not met. “She's so pretty! O My Goodness.” Mrs Scott pointed, staring at me from a distance in marvel like I was some kind of celebrity. Henry's father gave me a hug and muttered, ‘Welcome to the family.” “Hi Selena!” Olivia embraced me then introduced her fiancé to me, “This is Craig.” “Come here, it's lovely to finally meet you.” Mrs Scott held my hands, and looked at me but I was beginning to feel very shy with all the eyes on me. What was going through their minds? But looking through the corner of my eyes, they weren't really keeping their gaze on me but rather talking amongst themselves. She embraced me and I couldn't help but smile from ear to ear. She was just so beautiful, with long silky chest-nut brown hair and the ideal facial features. She and her husband were most likely models when they were younger because they screamed perfection. I mean….how could someone's skin be so flawless? We all walked together to the backyard patio, where a variety of meals were arranged beautifully in the most breathtaking patio I had ever seen.. I glanced at Henry and saw him staring at Olivia's fiancé with scorn as the dinner began, “Is everything okay?” I inquired, touching his hand softly. “Yeah…a little bit. Are you?” He whispered, turning to the right to watch my facial expression and I smiled tightly, raising my thumb up which made him chuckle and assure me. “I feel so old anytime I say or react this way but, the last time I saw you, you were so young and cute.” Mrs Scott said, and I couldn't help but chuckle. “Your parents and I go way back, developing a friendship, partnership, a very close bond. Now, having you in our family….with those beautiful eyes like your mother's….my heart is so full. Anytime you'd like to hear stories about them, you can call me anytime.” I nodded frantically at her words, because the softness in her tone, honesty in her eyes and care had me feeling so….happy. The conversation soon shifted to Olivia and her fiancé, and she pointed out the new case she's working on pro bono which was about a man who had been constantly and surprisingly been abused by his wife. Her description of the wife and bruises on his body caused her fiancé to laugh but hearing things like that reminded me of my past. “Found a job, Craig?” Henry found a way to slip that question in and I heard Craig clear his throat. “Really, Henry?” Olivia looked so irritated but the look on Henry's face did not soften one bit. “I just don't want any piece of trash leaching on my sister, that's all.” Henry shrugged, his demeanour calm, but the look on Craig and Olivia's face was nothing but embarrassment and shame. “Henry! That's enough now.” Olivia and Mr Scott said in unison and Henry raised his hand up in surrender which made me shake my head. But I understood where he was coming from, I don't know any brother who would want his sister to experience what I went through. I'd make sure I explain that to her later. The rest of the dinner was tense, and soon everyone had excused themselves, leaving just myself and a tired Mrs Scott. She had not uttered a word after the argument between her children. “I think I speak for my husband and I when I say how happy we are to have you in our family. Henry told us all about you ex and best friend, and I want you to know we are here to support you always with anything you need. Hell, even if it's a night out, Olivia and I will be there, with probably Cherry. Don't pay no mind to the two of them's argument, they are just being siblings and Henry's protection over whoever he loves is not to be interfered with, you are going to soon realize that.” I smiled, rising to my feet thinking, Who was Cherry? Was she insinuating that Henry was going to fall in love with me? But I dispelled all that and asked for a hug, and a big smile appeared on her face. “Welcome to the Scott family. You are protected and loved forever now.” There was no hint of amusement in her voice at those words, she meant it. Before I could say anything in response, a beautiful lady in a big pink wig, in a dramatic long cream dress that screamed theatre walked in. “Oh dang it! I missed it.” She kissed her teeth and Mrs Scott's face lit up. “Cherry!”SELENA’S POV:“Without your help, it would have been difficult to find me,” I told her. “And Joey had also taken someone important from your life and chosen the easy way out. It’s unfair but I’m so grateful to you.”“You’re welcome and thank you too. I promise I’m never going to bring up weird sexual conversation ever again.” She added and we stared at each other for a second before chuckling. And that was enough for me.As the sun dipped low and the sky turned pastel, Hailey climbed onto the wooden stage we’d set up. Henry joined her, carrying Harvey in one arm and a little sparkly mic in the other.“Daddy and I wrote a song!” Hailey declared, eyes twinkling.“Oh no,” I muttered, laughing as the family clapped and whistled. What followed was a hilariously off-key, half-sung, half-spoken original tune called "Hailey the Brave," complete with hand motions and Henry purposely missing the beat. Harvey clapped with every verse like it was the best show on Earth.By the time they were done
SELENA’S POV:I didn’t know when the tears started rolling down my own face. I just sat there in silence as she cried and cried, until there were no more words, just breath. I knew how badly she’d wanted another child for her son. They had already decorated the room, bought the tiny clothes, folded baby blankets that hadn’t been used yet. She had dreamed of hearing little feet running through their home again. My heart broke for her. I wanted to reach through the phone and just hold her.So I said the only things I could. That she was already such a beautiful mother. That the love she gave was more than enough for any child. And that sometimes, life doesn’t give us exactly what we asked for, but it still gives us love in the ways we didn’t expect. I reminded her that all our children, mine, Olivia’s, Zoey’s, they were also family to Ryan. That’s why, next holiday, Hailey would be going over to spend it with them. Because we were more than friends now. We were sisters. And our kids? Th
SELENA’S POV:And then I slowly backed away, swaying my hips as I walked off, turning back to wink at him while he shook his head and laughed, looking at me like I was the only girl in the world. Of course I am.I turned my head slowly, just looking around and soaking everything in, and that’s when I saw Zoey walking in, holding hands with Blake. The two of them looked like they had just stepped out of a love story. Zoey was glowing, really glowing, not from makeup or lights, but from the kind of glow that comes from peace and growth and happiness. She was wearing this soft yellow dress that hugged her body so nicely, and her hair was curled in this way that looked like she didn’t even try too hard, but still came out looking like a queen. She looked so strong. Not just physically, but in that quiet, powerful way women do when they’ve been through so much and still come out standing tall. She looked like someone who had walked through fire and turned into gold. I couldn’t help but smi
SELENA’S POV:FIVE YEARS LATER:“Selena!!!”I turned around quickly, just in time to see Olivia waving at me with both hands, full of excitement like a child who just saw her best friend after forever. Her smile was wide, her whole face lit up like sunshine, and before I could even wave back, I noticed her husband, Ace, trying to catch up behind her while also keeping an eye on their little boy, Derek, who was already running through the grass like a tiny hurricane, full of energy and zero fear, like only a three-year-old could be.Olivia and Ace had gotten married about a year after my kidnapping, and honestly, it was one of the most beautiful weddings I had ever witnessed in my life. They chose to do it by the beach, with the waves crashing softly in the background, and it felt like something out of a dream. I remember standing beside her as her maid of honor, my heart full and happy, because everyone knew how much Olivia adored me and how close we were. I cried that day, not sad te
SELENA’S POV:AT THE HOSPITAL:The lights of the emergency room hit me as soon as the ambulance doors opened. Voices, loud and urgent, swirled around me, paramedics yelled orders, nurses rushing to prepare. But all I could focus on was Henry’s body, limp and pale, being wheeled ahead with urgency.“No! Please!” I screamed, trying to run after him, but my legs felt like stone. My body was still shaking from all that happened with Joey, but none of that compared to the horror of watching the love of my life bleed out in front of me. My knees jerked forward, and if not for Cameron catching me, I would’ve collapsed right there on the floor.“He’s going to be okay. He has to be,” Cameron muttered, though his voice shook like he was assuring himself too.Liv rushed in moments later, her eyes immediately scanning the chaos before falling on me. She broke into a sprint, hugging me so tightly I could barely breathe. Cherry, Gabby, Julian, Mr and Mrs Scott and everyone else.“Selena. God. You’r
3RD POV:The darkness inside swallowed him up, and he pressed himself against the wall, trying to adjust his eyes. His heart was pounding so hard he could feel it in his teeth. Just then he saw Joey locked the rear exit where he was just coming from. “Why couldn’t you just love me back?” Joey’s voice cracked like something was breaking inside him. His grip on Selena tightened as he pulled her toward a far corner of the room. “We were supposed to run away together! Just you and me! You ruined everything!”Selena twisted in his grip, her eyes blazing through her tears. “You did this, Joey! You!” she spat out, voice shaking. “This isn’t love, it’s obsession! It’s sick! You keep calling it love, but it’s not. I don’t even know who you are anymore! Please, just let me go. If not for me, then at least do it for my daughter. Please, Joey, I’m begging you.”Henry was angry as he overheard their conversation, clenching and unclenching his jawOutside, officers took positions, guns raised, wait
