Chapter 4

Author: Perfect Timing
The chaos grew worse and worse, but Oliver and Paula still flanked me on both sides, trying to drag me into the crowd. I quickly tried to stop them.

"I'm telling you the truth. My abdomen really hurts. How about you take me to the hospital?"

I grabbed Paula's hand. This was the last chance I'd give them. If they took me to the hospital, that Black Widow spider wouldn't be able to crawl onto her hand.

"Why do you have to go into labor right now? You're such a pain! Always screwing up our chances!" Paula shoved my hand away and looked at the grabbing crowd as she spoke to me anxiously.

"Just wait until we grab a few more boxes! You'd be sitting around at the hospital anyway, so don't ruin this for us!" After saying this, Paula glared at me and rejoined the scramble.

"Mom's right, honey. Just hold on a little longer and give birth later!" Oliver said hurriedly before rushing off and abandoning me, too.

I couldn't help but laugh coldly. They were my husband and my mother-in-law, but they only cared about profit and had no genuine feelings for me whatsoever. I stepped aside, rubbing my belly as I watched this farce coldly.

Finally, when Paula and Oliver couldn't carry any more, they squeezed out of the crowd, clutching Christmas gift boxes and stepping on several people's feet in the process. Paula especially looked fierce and energetic, more vigorous than people half her age.

Behind them, the Christmas tree finally toppled after countless people tearing, climbing, and yanking at it. The people on top came crashing down as screams echoed through the mall, one after another.

However, Paula and Oliver were just as lucky as in my previous life, emerging completely unharmed with their grabbed Christmas boxes.

Paula held the boxes while unwrapping them, muttering, "Hmph, I believe there must be something good inside after all this effort."

Oliver also said expectantly, "Right? There must be something valuable in here. If not, why would they make such a big fuss?"

But after opening box after box, there really was nothing inside. Paula immediately started cursing, "What a lousy mall! All these gift boxes, but there's nothing inside! If you can't afford to do it right, don't hold events at all! Cheap bastards."

Paula angrily stomped on the gift boxes several times. Oliver looked disappointed too, but he still wouldn't give up as he said, "Don't worry, Mom, there's still one last box. Maybe all the good stuff is in this final one."

Paula finally opened the last box. In my previous life and in my dying memories, the last box contained a spider with an hourglass pattern on its belly that crawled onto Paula's hand.

I'd seen that kind of spider on the news before. It's called a Black Widow. They loved dark, warm environments, and their bites could cause convulsions at best, immediate death at worst.

Paula eagerly opened the final box and looked inside. Just as expected, there was nothing there either.

She got so angry that she threw the box directly at me, and I jumped in fright. After all, that box contained a venomous spider!

I frantically looked around and panicked. Meanwhile, Paula pointed at me and cursed, "It's your fault we came up empty! You jinxed us!"

I glanced up to answer her when I froze. The Black Widow was creeping across the back of Paula's hand with its fangs bared.

Paula's wound showed signs of repeated infection. First, it became red and swollen, then it started festering and gave off a terrible smell. After examining her, the doctor said with a serious expression, "The wound is severely infected. If this continues, it could lead to more serious consequences and might even affect your nervous system."Only then did Paula become somewhat frightened. She asked with a trembling voice, "Doctor, what should we do?"The doctor shook his head helplessly. "For now, we can only treat the infection with antibiotics, but whether you'll recover depends on how things progress. During this time, you absolutely must follow the dietary and care instructions strictly. You can't keep acting recklessly."Paula agreed verbally, but as soon as the pain eased up a little, she started complaining again about how terrible the hospital food was and secretly had the nurses' aides buy her all kinds of unhealthy food. This went on until Paula's condition became increa

Now Paula finally realized how dangerous the venom was. Her eyes filled with fear and despair as she begged the doctor in a trembling voice, "Doctor, please save me! I don't want to die! Please help me!"The doctor shook his head helplessly. After all, doctors were bound by their oath to heal, and he couldn't just watch someone die. He could only instruct the nurses to rush Paula and Oliver into the emergency room for treatment. After several long and agonizing hours, Paula and Oliver were finally wheeled out of the operating room. The venom had affected Oliver too severely, and he had become comatose, lying on a hospital bed without any signs of life. Only the faint lines jumping on the monitor showed he was still alive.Paula wasn't much better off. Her arm had been amputated, and the empty sleeve looked particularly jarring. As soon as she woke up and saw her missing arm, she stared blankly for a moment, then began cursing furiously, "This is all your fault, you jinx! If it wa

When I heard this, I realized that as time ticked by, their condition would only get more critical. If they were transferred to another hospital now, they definitely wouldn't make it in time.I quickly grabbed Paula and tried to reason with her. "Paula, please stop making a scene. Time is running out. If we delay any longer, you will die for real!"But Paula acted like she'd lost her mind, shoving me away forcefully. "Get away from me! Stop pretending to care. This is all your fault! If you hadn't insisted on bringing us to the hospital, we wouldn't have been in this mess!"I stumbled and nearly fell to the ground. Fortunately, a young nurse nearby reacted quickly and caught me, preventing my fall.Paula showed no restraint and continued her tantrum. "This hospital owes me answers! Look how much time you've wasted! If I'm left disabled, that's on you."You're going to compensate us, and my son and I will need that money to survive. I want a million dollars, or I won't let this sli

Oliver reacted quickly and rushed to catch Paula."Mom… Mom, are you okay?" Oliver asked with concern. But before Paula could answer, Oliver felt dizzy himself. His head buzzed loudly, and his breathing became rapid and difficult. He couldn't stay on his feet either. However, I wasn't about to help them. I let them both collapse to the ground.I was pregnant after all, and besides, I hadn't forgotten the grudges from my previous life. While I couldn't bear to watch them die in front of me, giving them a lesson was completely justified.Gradually, blood began seeping from both their eyes and noses. Seeing this situation, I thought that if I didn't call an ambulance now, it really would be too late. I pulled out my phone and slowly dialed 911.Soon, the ambulance arrived with sirens wailing. The paramedics loaded Paula and Oliver onto stretchers. Throughout the ride, Paula and Oliver's breathing became more and more labored, while my heart was filled with mixed emotions. These t

When Oliver saw this, his eyes widened instantly, his face full of shock as his voice cracked. "Mom, your nose is bleeding! Are you alright?"He quickly reached out to support Paula, frantically trying to find something to stop the bleeding. Paula still didn't take it seriously, wiping the blood with her hand and saying carelessly, "What's the big deal? I've just been run down lately. It's nothing serious."Oliver frowned, feeling panicked inside. But he still listened to Paula and said uncertainly, "Mom, are you sure it's just that? It's not from the spider, is it?"Before he could finish speaking, he felt warmth in his nose. Blood began flowing from his nostrils as well. Now Paula started to panic, her voice shaking. "Oli, why is your nose bleeding too?"Oliver wiped his nose with his sleeve, but the blood kept flowing. He was overtaken by fear. "Mom, what if it really is venom from that Black Widow?"When Paula heard this, terror flashed across her face, but she stayed stubbor

Seeing this, Oliver quickly reached out to support Paula, his voice finally showing a hint of worry. "Mom, are you okay?"Paula leaned against Oliver and replied weakly, "I'm fine. I just feel a little dizzy. It's just that the bitch is making me angry!"She glared at me viciously, but I still tried to reason with them. "The venom is already taking effect. If you don't go to the hospital now, it really will be too late."Paula remained stubborn. "I don't believe you. Stop trying to curse me."I was speechless. There was no saving people who were determined to destroy themselves."Believe it or not, Black Widow venom is extremely deadly. Keep stalling, and you'll lose your lives!"When Paula heard this, fear flashed across her face, but it was quickly covered by stubbornness. "What venom? If it was really venomous, would I still be standing here just fine?"At this point, Oliver backed her up. "I think so too. Look, nothing's wrong with me either. Mom's tough as nails. No way a l
