Chapter 4

Author: Cutie Kitty
Whether it was the job itself or the benefits they offered, their sincerity was impossible to ignore.

I no longer had any reason to refuse.

After we agreed on a start date, I politely declined their invitation to lunch and prepared to head to my next appointment.

To my surprise, the moment I stepped out of the private room, I ran into Sean and Ivy.

Both of them froze for a moment.

Sean frowned in confusion.

“What are you doing here?”

During our ten years together, Sean couldn't recall me ever visiting a tea lounge like this.

Ivy seemed to think of something.

Before I could say a word, she accused, “Olivia, don't tell me you heard we were meeting a client today and followed us here on purpose.”

A sarcastic laugh escaped me.

Running into them had been pure coincidence, but I did happen to have something I needed to discuss with Sean.

I walked toward him.

“I need to talk to you.”

The moment he heard that, the icy expression on his face visibly softened.

A trace of satisfaction flickered through his eyes, though he tried to hide it.

“So, after a night to cool off, you've finally realized you were wrong? Fine. Apologize to Ivy first, and…”

I cut him off before he could finish.

“Sean, I want a divorce.”

Sean's head snapped up.

Disbelief filled his face.

A flash of delight crossed Ivy's eyes, but she quickly masked it with surprise.

“Olivia, what are you talking about? You're still not upset about the press conference yesterday, are you? We only did that to protect the company's reputation...”

I interrupted coldly.

“Whether it was for the company's reputation or for yourself, you know the answer better than anyone.”

Ivy's eyes immediately reddened.

“I knew it. You've always looked down on me because I'm just an assistant. You've never liked me...”

Her voice trembled. “Maybe I should leave...”

Sean instantly grabbed her arm.

Then he turned to me, irritation clear in his voice.

“Olivia, since when did you become this petty?

“Ivy is just starting her career. If something like this gets out, her future could be ruined.

“But you're different. You have experience and skills. This is nothing you can't overcome.

“I've already promised to make it up to you. What more do you want?”

How ridiculous.

The exact same situation was enough to destroy Ivy's future.

Yet when it came to me, it suddenly became something insignificant.

And that was despite the fact that just yesterday, they both insisted that once I left the company, no one else would ever hire me again.

They had a way of twisting every situation to suit their narrative.

If they wanted to condemn me, they had their reasons.

If they wanted to defend themselves, they had those too.

I couldn't be bothered arguing with them anymore.

I pulled out the divorce papers and held them in front of Sean.

“I already said it. I want a divorce.”

Words could be dismissed.

Documents could not.

Only then did Sean realize I wasn't bluffing.

His expression changed immediately.

“Olivia, you're serious?”

I nodded.

The next second, he snatched the agreement from my hands and tore it into pieces.

He clenched his jaw, his tone leaving no room for discussion.

“Don't even think about it. I'm not divorcing you.”

Then a thought seemed to strike him, and a smug smile spread across his face.

“Olivia, are you angry because I didn't come home last night?”

I looked at him without saying a word.

In the past, even the slightest sign of favoritism toward Ivy would leave me jealous and upset, let alone what had happened yesterday.

He forced me to take the blame for Ivy, then spent the night away from home.

Naturally, he assumed I finally reached my limit.

Certain he figured everything out, Sean offered an explanation for once.

“My phone died last night, and I forgot to let you know. Ivy was on her period and wasn't feeling well. She doesn't have any family here, and as her supervisor, it was only right for me to take care of her.”

As Sean's words became more and more absurd, I couldn't help frowning.“Sean, we're already separated.”Sean waved it off.“Being separated isn't the same as being divorced. We've been together for ten years. We still have plenty of chances to start over.”Because Sean refused to sign the divorce papers, the divorce had yet to be finalized. There was no point arguing further.I pulled out the lawsuit, along with all the videos and messages Ivy sent me.“Sean, these are all evidence of your betrayal. Combined with testimony from Mr. Bennett and the others, they're more than enough to prove our marriage has irretrievably broken down.“The divorce is only a matter of time. Take care of yourself.”With that, I stood and prepared to leave.Sean refused to accept it.He hurried after me and grabbed my arm.“Olivia, nothing ever happened between Ivy and me. She just reminded me of the person you used to be. That's why I couldn't help myself...”I let out a cold laugh.“So if I met a man who r

On top of that, his reputation within the industry was completely destroyed. She remained a fugitive.Looking back, I wasn't sure whether I should be grateful that Sean insisted on signing a prenuptial agreement before our marriage. At least none of this affected me financially.Still, wanting to sever all ties with him as quickly as possible, I hired a lawyer and filed for divorce.I assumed that would be the end of it.I never expected our paths to cross again. One morning, just as I arrived at work, I spotted Sean outside my new company's office building. The confident, ambitious man I once knew was gone.He looked hunched over, as though he aged ten years overnight. The moment he saw me, he rushed over with bloodshot eyes.“Olivia, please help me. Just one last time, okay? I know you're close to Mr. Bennett. If you put in a good word f

Back then, I made a private agreement with Richard to help Sean recover from that difficult period.I promised that if Richard appointed Sean as CEO, I would stay with the company and help turn the branch into its most profitable division.Unfortunately, that achievement ended the same way our marriage did.It came to an abrupt end in the seventh year.“That's all in the past now,” I said calmly. “There's no need to bring it up.”The executive assistant immediately fell silent.Richard glanced at Sean, and the more he thought about it, the angrier he became.“You’ve turned a perfectly good company into a complete mess!“You allowed employees to form cliques, spread false accusations against their colleagues, and even fired the person most responsible for the company's success!“If anyone deserves to be fired, it's you!”With that, he immediately instructed his assistant to publish an announcement on the company website and internal communication channels. The notice removed Sean from h

Did she really think such a transparent lie would work on Richard? To everyone's surprise, Sean actually believed her.His suspicious gaze moved back and forth between me and Henry before he suddenly barked,“Olivia, I thought the worst of it was that you were jealous and throwing a tantrum. I never imagined you'd stoop to something this despicable!”Everyone present looked stunned. The expressions around the room became impossible to describe.I could have sworn the word "embarrassing" was written all over Richard's face.At last, he'd had enough.“That's enough!”Richard cut him off sharply.“You're the CEO of a company. Stop making a spectacle of yourself.”Sean's face instantly flushed red.He opened his mouth to defend himself. But Richard's expression remained cold.“When we first opened this branch, I personally instructed Via to install monitoring software on every company computer.“You're questioning the footage now. Are you suggesting that I'm the one who fabricated the evid

The moment her name was called out, Ivy exploded.“You—you're lying!”I ignored her.Instead, I walked straight over and handed the flash drive to Richard's executive assistant. The assistant accepted it and plugged it into a laptop.A second later, every action performed on Ivy's computer appeared on the screen. The records showed her repeatedly transferring company funds into a personal bank account over an extended period of time. Then came the altered financial reports.Several figures were quietly changed to conceal the missing money.Silence fell over the room.Even Sean, who was determined to protect Ivy, didn't know what to say.Richard let out a cold laugh.“Ivy, what do you have to say for yourself?”The evidence was right there, yet Ivy still refused to give up. Tears streamed down her face as she cried, “Mr. Bennett, you have to believe me! I've always been loyal to this company. Olivia is framing me!“She has never liked me. She must have known you were coming today, so s

Ivy watched her chance to replace me slip away once again. The resentment in her eyes was impossible to miss, though her voice remained sweet and innocent.“That's right, Olivia. Sean only spent the night taking care of me out of kindness. Please don't get the wrong idea.”Back then, I attended nine client dinners in three days to secure a major contract. The nonstop drinking landed me in the hospital with a stomach bleed.Sean claimed he was busy with work and never once came to see me.Now Ivy merely had menstrual cramps, and he was worried enough to stay with her all night. It happened every month. Was he planning to take care of her every month too?A laugh nearly escaped me.Even now, when he kept insisting he wouldn't divorce me, I knew it wasn't out of love. For the past ten years, my entire world revolved around him.Whatever he needed, I gave without hesitation. He grew used to my unconditional devotion. That was why he couldn't accept the fact that I was slipping beyond his
